So the DS4 controller ditches analog face buttons because the ps3 controller had them but games never really used them. All digital now. Also they say the ps3's face buttons were not evenly spaced. I never once noticed but apparently the circle and square buttons are spaced further apart than x and triangle. There was also an article earlier in the week that explained some of the prototype designs for the ds4 and one of them involved placing the left analog stick above the dpad but it was not used because the trademark PlayStation controller design was kept mostly intact. http://m.ign.com/articles/2013/10/24/ps4s-controller-ditches-its-analogue-buttons

Most of the MGS games have taken advantage of analog buttons IIRC. I know in the Playstation version, if you lightly held the square button, you drew and aimed your weapon. You had to press hard to fire.

Yeah, that was the reason why I bought the MGS Collection for the PS3 over the 360. I heard that the 360's lack of analog button support made the game harder to play compared to the PS3.

just saw this twitter that you can already purchase ps4 controllers at gamestop.

there are also a few other accessories you can get already.
Yeah and it will work on the ps3 as long as it's wired. I had my wife check in town today but they don't have them yet. I was hoping to pick one up and see if I like it enought to use it to clear out my backlog of games.

It doesn't work right in ps3 games. Games need to be rewritten for it. Results vary.

lol, Sony and their updates.

I kind of wonder why they didn't preinstall all this stuff, because it's all they talked about back at E3. Guess they've been churning them out for awhile and it's just easier to send a patch. Although their servers will be hammered all day on the 15th. Hopefully they don't pull a Sim City 5 on us. 😛

They probably were too busy making sure they had enough in their supply to apply the update to all of them. That and maybe they ran into issues with the software where they needed extra time to make sure everything got into the update. I hope their servers are ready but I just hope it's not like when gta online launched.

Exactly.

Look at the features that are gone... they're essentially all the unimportant features for a gaming console. Sony most likely prioritized the gaming features (note: not remote play) to ensure it could play games properly out of the box. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they forked their OS software at a point to avoid new features and just to squash a certain level of bugs, and that fork is exactly what's on the launch consoles.

If nothing else, think of this as a way to ensure people who get early units won't be able to play anything.

What do you mean by early units? I know there are some contests out there where you can win a ps4 or Xbox one a week before release. I wonder if the patch will be available for those people too. I think once the consoles connect they should be able to update unless this patch won't be ready until launch day.

You do realize the Xbox One has a mandatory day 1 update right?
All the 180's they pulled are in that day 1 update as well as whatever else.
This is the new norm for consoles since they are no more just gaming machines, was only a matter time they would follow games in regards to day 1 patches/updates
