I think you'll be able to get a little markup. I'll have one in-hand on launch day and plan on trying to flip it. If I can make $200, I'll be happy. If not, I'll just return it unopened.

lol, now how would that work when every piece of news and data says it's actual retail of 399 and so many others are selling it at under $700? There is no perception out there that the PS4 is worth thousands. It's only value is in availability and ones need/want to get one before xmas and everyone hunts for who ever is selling their pre order the cheapest. No their just hoping to get a good offer close to that amount from rich people in nations where ps4's are not being sold yet or ever. Notice the huge no region code listed.

I wouldn't even bother listing on ebay with their 10% fee and then the PayPal fee. I would also be weary meeting someone from Craigslist because I'm not in the best area.

Believe it or not you will have people paying over retail for it when it launches because they can't wait. It's the gotta have it now mentality. I would not pay any price over retail for anything.

Until the end of the month Ebay is doing a 'Ebay voucher' that will make it so you will get 100% of your sale price as ebay credit. Its not the same as real money but for me I would end up spending my paypal credit on ebay items anyways.

I wouldn't even pay retail for *most* things. This is why I do not buy stuff that often.

It's been possible for a while now. Microsoft has even had cross-platform games in the past (e.g. the oft-mention Shadowrun). Games for Windows Live uses your XBOX Live account, which amusingly enough, also makes it so you can't log in on your XBOX 360. 😛

However, there have been a few game developers that stated that Microsoft refused to allow them to leave the ecosystem. Apparently, that's why Dust 514 is only on the PS3, and Warframe is only on the PS4. Although, the point of my post was to use PC-to-console play support as a reasoning to suggest which company may be more willing to consider cross-platform console multi-player.

Of course if they wanted it right away, they could have just pre-ordered it like most sane folks did. Even if it arrives a week or two late, so what. Same thing with people lining up at the store at midnight to get it. If only there was some sort of magic box that let you pick whatever you wanted to buy, pay for it, and have it shipped to your door. :hmm:

I suspect a lot of people scooping these things up on eBay are parents of spoilt brats who are whining that Santa better bring it, or else. 😛

Supply and demand and most important location as well. For example when I was looking to buy my motorcycle, a nice bike that goes used for 2500-3k was being sold in my area for well over the book value. While communicating with others on forums who had the same bike, the majority of them didn't pay anywhere near the prices listed in my area. This is normal for big cities where I live.

But yea spoiled brats will allow some of us to sell our consoles for a bit over retail because there are parents out there that have no idea about the technology and what it goes for so they give up the money.

Selfish but smart. It's easy money really. It's not like there won't be consoles sitting on the shelf at MSRP in a few weeks anyway, I'm not taking bread out of a kid's mouth.

I checked Craigslist and found somebody had already sold their pre-order for $800 with a 1-year PS+ card. I just posted mine for $750 just to see what happens. Not quite sure how it will work as a local trade, but I guess I'll find out shortly.

Make sure you go with someone so you don't get robbed or shot. In my area a few people were beat up and their stuff was taken. If I were doing this on Craigslist I would go to the most public area possible. I too may list it with my games to see if I get anything over retail.

It may be selfish but if people are willing to pay the price why not? I'm not dying to play it on launch anyway.

Absolutely, I'm planning on offering my brother some of the haul if he'll go with.
 
It's all fair game. I bought a pre ordered a PS3 at launch and sold it on Ebay. After all was said and done, I made something near $300 profit.
 
Supply and demand. I don't think supply will be as bad this time. I'm confident I'll walk into a less popular store like Target and pick one up before Xmas. I think the PS3 had some Cell and BR supply issues.

I doubt it, but maybe Sony will surprise me and make enough to capture most of the early adopters. I know they claim to have limited pre orders to get people looking in stores, but that limit still leads me to believe there won't be enough for the holidays.

Who knows. The PS4 is releasing in more countries than Xbox and Microsoft is cutting out other countries already.
 
Well, the reselling "debate" always comes up at any big release, and personally, I've never been a fan of doing it. The reason I don't like it is because the people that resell the item are just being leeches. They could not buy the item, and the person that ends up having to go to eBay/Craigslist could have purchased it at MSRP instead. The reseller provides absolutely no benefit to the customer or the video game "ecosystem."

Now, I've sold things for more than their inherent worth in the past, but it's never been as a reseller. For example, I sold a copy of Xenoblade Chronicles for more than it cost me. The game was opened, but it's just the circumstances around the game's poor release handling in North America (only sold at Gamestop) and Nintendo's incessant region locking of their consoles (can't import it) made the North American copies worth more. I also sold an old 80GB semi-backwards-compatible PS3 for around $180. I paid $250 for it brand new ($600 - $250 cash back from Sony card - $100 price drop a week later). I'd argue that's certainly more than it's normally worth given it came with the bare minimum (controller + cables).

Didn't Amazon recently raise their day-one allotment for both consoles? That's probably a good sign since, as you mentioned, Sony did state that they want PS4s to be on the store shelves. So, if they're still sticking to that, that means they probably have a rather healthy stock.
