Exactly what I would want to compare it against 😉

5 million means nothing to me without some sort of context. I could go google it but then everyone has to 🙂

Oh, they only sold a bit over 3.5 million PS3s in the first year, and they had supply problems initially (at least in the US, it only launched with 400,00 rather than the promised 800,000 and sold out in the first day).

IGN posted an article where about how Sony went into more detail over the $10 PS3-to-PS4 upgrade program. Here's a tidbit that includes the part we were wondering about:

In the case of a physical PS3 copy, a code is included in the box that must be redeemed on the PlayStation Store (which can be done on PS3). Once that's done and you have a PS4 in your hands, you'll sign into your same PlayStation Network/Sony Entertainment Network account and find the digital PS4 version of the game in question on the Store, which will now be available to you for $9.99. After downloading the game, you'll have to insert the PS3 game disc for the PS4 digital game to be playable -- a measure presumably intended to prevent sales being lost by people getting a PS4 game for $10 and then selling off the PS3 copy to someone else.

1200 people sampled. pretty meaningless survey. i don't think 1200 no-sales = trouble for any company in the console business.

Agreed. I had read this article but thought the sample size too small to really say..not only that, they don't mention if they asked if said sample was gamers or non-gamers.

You can take those results with a grain of salt due to small sample size but I think it is living in denial to say that the enthusiasm over Xbox One might be larger than the enthusiasm over PS4.

I will just be glad when January comes and we can see concrete numbers. And even then they may not be really telling because of shortages before Christmas.

Depends how you define enthusiasm. There are quite a few "enthused" people crying about Microsoft's initial ideas on the future of gaming. When it comes to making headlines, MS dominated Sony. "No such this as bad publicity."

I think we'll see even a higher ratio after they actually come out. Then all the casual gamers will start to pay attention to how much better the PS4 is than the Xbone.

Also doesn't require a monthly/yearly fee to use online apps like Netflix and so on.

I'll be honest, this is the biggest deal breaker for me. I don't really play multiplayer games and use Netflix and Amazon Prime on my PS3. I can't justify going behind a paywall to use the services I already pay for...

If MS dumped this I would look at getting an XBone, but while the paywall is in place it kills it. Luckily the PS4 didn't put those services behind a paywall. Had they done that I'd be looking at alternatives for my video viewing needs.

Maybe they won't miss my business though, I only own 4 games on my PS3. 😀

I wasn't sure which thread to post this in but I figured it would be a little less inflammatory here.

Survey on next-gen console purchases may spell trouble for Xbox One

I have a couple of friends who are jumping to the PS4 this round. I currently have both, with a high likely hood of getting the XBONE eventually. I see some positives with each, but the PS4 just make more sense for me currently. I'll hang on to the PS3 and Xbox360 for a while since there aren't that many release games that I'm looking forward to. I still haven't picked up "The Last of Us" in hopes of a PS4 release.

probably for the better. driveclub looked like a poor mans test drive unlimited, and that game sucked.

I don't think most Playstation fans care much about DriveClub anyway. It's just unfortunate that Gran Turismo 6 is a PS3 title, now that Xbone has Forza. Though we've still had two games delayed this week. I'd rather see them done right than released buggy. Just hope AC4 and Knack are out on time. Those were the ones I pre-ordered. D:
