Talk about a disappointment with Deep Down. Looks nowhere near as good as the bullshit trailer from the reveal and online only with an Assasin's Creed like bs setting???!

I don't know what you're talking about. They never once advertised the original trailer as any game footage whatsoever.

Plus it isn't online only. It's co-op capable with three people online. They don't say once "online only" that I saw and I watched the videos. More info will come at TGS.

The ps4 will not release in Japan until 2014 too.

February 22nd I'm hearing. Which is a big deal IMO. Up until now, every single Sony console has released in its homelands months prior to its global launch. I wonder what prompted them to delay the release. Maybe Japanese preorders haven't been that strong, or there's a lack of localized games. Probably a combination of the two.

I think Sony sees they are beating MS out of the gate and want to make sure they dominate them in the big markets (US and EU). That is MS' bread and butter and Sony has the chance to stick it to them. They had a very poor launch with the PS3; I know they don't want to screw over would be buyers this time.

The Sony event stated that pre-orders don't begin until October. Although, I doubt that stops sites like Amazon from doing something. Also, a lot of the games announced at the event do have Japanese launch day release dates.

Also, North America and Europe are bigger markets (quite literally), which both have a strong emphasis on the Christmas season. :p

Yes that's true, I have had friends who lived in Japan and their Christmas season isn't the same by far.

I agree. When it comes right down to it MS has such a weak Japanese presence that Sony is in no way threatened. Between the XB1 and the PS4 the Japanese will simply buy the PS4, no matter when it is released.

With that in mind it makes far more sense to move every launch unit to the competitive western markets, where product availability and word of mouth can easily sway the balance. If Sony can start out ahead of MS while skipping Japan, then that means they have global domination practically from the start. That's a far better situation than trying to come from behind like the current generation of consoles.

Though it still sucks for the Japanese. Getting stood up in your home country is very cold regardless of how good a plan it is.

I actually think some of it is due to the games being ready for release aren't huge sellers in Japan. I don't think Japanese gamers are that into Killzone, sports games, and stuff like that. Maybe The japanese developers weren't ready? I know a lot of Japanese developers support an older console well into the life of the new console because they don't like moving people off current projects once they get going. It seems they are less inclined to drop work on a game to move it to the new console, they would rather see the current project through.

If they allocate most their units to the us, I can see them beating the XBone 2 to 1.

Wont this be something interesting.

Yes but it isn't the major holiday it is here. Most of Japan is not christian.

What are you kidding me?

Christmas is HUGE in Japan. They have major department store celebrations, tons of decorations and tons of festivities. They might take it even further than America.

Who cares if the country isn't Christian? Christmas hasn't been a christian holiday in a century.

Christmas is a consumer holiday for sure. I do know Japan, as well as other parts of Asia, have been really into the Christian wedding thing in the past few years.

I have known 5 people who have lived in Japan for more than a couple of years time. They all said that Christmas is not as big as it is in north america.

It isn't a national holiday and the Christmas chicken dinner was popularized by marketing from KFC. Christmas eve is hyped by TV media as a time for romantic miracles. So it is common to give gifts to close friends and romantic interests.

So yeah like I said it is not the same as here in the states. It is growing in popularity, partially because in Japan celebrations are popular. It still isn't anywhere near the crazy buying frenzy that happens in the US every year.

I can't either. I think the screen grab came from neogaf or something. Google doesn't even find that picture.

It's fake. Reddit discussion

Too bad, because such a downloadable bundle would pretty much guarantee my purchase of a PS4. Backwards compatibility would have too. :p

Ah, I missed that part. Still unusual for a Japanese company not to launch in Japan first. Even if NA and Europe are bigger markets.

I agree. It has nothing to do with Christmas, it's Sony knowing they will win the Japanese market no matter what, so they can wait.

I'm really liking the sound of this Vita TV unit in order to support use of a single PS4 in multiple rooms.

The Vita TV, a sub-$100 console that plays Vita games and allows for second-TV PS4 streaming, will work with both the DualShock 3 controller and the coming DualShock 4 controller. When a gamer wants to turn over control of the TV, she need only pause the game, relocate, and restart the game on the Vita TV ... the game transfer took about 10 seconds

Sony stated they are planning on selling 5 million PS4's this fiscal year (the fiscal year it releases in at least). That should give high hopes to their actually being supply of them if you didn't preorder.

Have anything to compare that against?

Compare what against? They said that in a statement. I think it is pretty clear, if they want 5 million consoles to be sold, they have to produce at least 5 million consoles. That is very good supply compared to the low numbers we've gotten in the past release.

Exactly what I would want to compare it against ;)

5 million means nothing to me without some sort of context. I could go google it but then everyone has to :)
