This is very true. Gamestop stores only have a few employees per store so you see the same faces often. They get to know you as a person and get to know your gaming preferences so it is easier to say "I think you will like that game." on a personal level. Gamestop will almost only hire people with at least some knowledge of gaming and related electronics. There are only really a few people I have ever met at Gamestop who don't have at least one console and more often than not they own multiple and maybe even gaming PCs.

So of course they will know more about the games and the hardware than the grandma stuck back in electronics. If you have a question about a game, wallyworld is not the place to go.





Edit: ps4 can be turned on remotely. If you buy a game off of psn on your phone the system can wake up and download it and go back to sleep when it is finished.

I guess it depends where you live. At my local gamestop they are always changing employees. But overall, they all seem pretty friendly. I also like how they can give their opinions on a lot of things. I usually do my game shopping there I just won't trade stuff in at gamestop mainly because by the time I get to finishing a game it's not worth much.

Part timers can be moved up to key holding positions at another store, go off to school, move to another store for whatever reason etc. I bounced around quite a bit when I worked there, opened up 3 locations.

For the X1, Microsoft paid Gamestop to let people trade a retail 360 game for the same X1 game for just $10. Retail copy for retail copy.

Sony countered with their own deal, however with them, you buy a retail PS3 game and you can then purchase the PS4 version digitally at a "highly" discounted rate. You keep the retail PS3 copy and have a PS4 digital copy.

I'm guessing Imported does not like digital games, however you do seem to be able to keep the retail PS3 version (I've not seen otherwise).

I agree Gamestop employees are knowledgable about the current trend in console games. But mention the Thief series or some RTS game and their clueless. Just COD kids but that's to be expected. I also suspect based on over hearing recommends to older people what to buy their kid, that they just sit there and play console games all day when not at work and likely still live in their mom's basement. For what they paid, I wouldn't even provide that much help but that's me.

So buy one and get the better version at a discount? I guess that's good if you plan to sell the PS3 version, otherwise I don't see the point of not just directly getting the PS4 version and save that much more.

Because you get to play the game on the PS3 for a few weeks and then you upgrade to the PS4 version without having to wait.

From what I remember reading, there's a code that comes with the PlayStation 3 game that will allow you to purchase the upgrade edition. The code is only active for a limited time (I think it was until around the end of the year).

Although, I wonder what stops people from giving away or selling the codes? If a person who won't get a PS4 for a while buys BF4, why not sell the code to someone? Since the code expires, it will end up useless to them!
 
Maybe it requires you to have the physical PS3 game disc inserted into your PS3 while you enter the code in order to tie the code to your account.

Probably this. I think Valve did this with Portal 2 on the PS3. You were able to get a free copy of Portal 2 for the PC if you bought the PS3 version. I don't remember the details off hand though.

I went down and grabbed my PS3 copy of Portal 2 as I never throw away the worthless stuff. (I recently sold a Mass Effect collector's edition with a Battlestar Galactica final season advertisement in it. :biggrin🙂 The instructions say that you have to log into Steam via Portal 2 on the PS3, and then use the provided code on your PC. So, it's more than possible that you could just borrow a copy of the game from a friend or use GameFly.
