They are supposed to keep track of their numbers but often places like Walmart with clueless employees working electronics don't follow the right procedures. I expect places like GameStop, amazon, and toys r us to be better at this because they keep a closer eye on pre-sale numbers vs allocation.
Yeah Wal-Mart employees are usually clueless and often give wrong information. Who knows what may happen there. Half the time they aren't even aware of what's in stock. Many times I've gone to buy simple toothbrush heads for my electric toothbrush and 3 times in a row the shelves looked the same as before, nothing stocked.
