Yea they are backed up to all hell with issues right now. Thank god I got a working console. Some people sent theirs in on the 15th and it took too weeks to get one back, others had theirs shipped back to wrong addresses, or still do not have a replacement back yet. The ones where Sony shipped to wrong address, support said they now would need to do an investigation so then they would ship them a replacement after 15 days when the investigation is complete.

From what I see, they really need some help in CS over there.

What they need is a website you can go on and say "my system is broken, here's my serial number, name and address. Send me a box so I can get a working one." with a spot to click if you want an advanced RMA and a box to input a CC#. Calling someone on the phone who can type things in wrong is lame these days. Especially when they read off a script trying to ask you stupid things like "is the power cord plugged in?". I would assume that people who even knew about the PS4 and were smart enough to pre-order know how to plug in the thing.

Yeah they really need an advanced RMA feature. With everyone sending their system in with either doa, blod, or disc drive issues, they are getting mixed up..not prioritized. I feel bad for those who have been almost a month without a system they preordered in June. Not to mention they loose one month of free PSN and they are not compensating people for anything.

Every time i read the replacement status thread over there I sit and hope nothing goes wrong with mine. That and the idea that buying the warranty would be a gamble, I may have a quick turn around time or not. But warranty in many companies is a lengthy process.

They ask that stuff because for one, you always start simple when diagnosing and second, it's extremely common. You may be suprised how many parents let their young kids hook up the system since the parents feel they know more about it than them only to find their kid is a moron.

It reminds me of this NES customer service training video. Too bad places like Walmart don't have someone that can test out equipment before sending it in for servicing. What they really need is dept stores that have dedicated RMA stations to take care of everything for you but we know why that won't happen.

Honestly, it shouldn't matter. Just fix or replace it.

It shouldn't take 20 minutes on the phone talking to someone reading out of a book to finally get an RMA number. Especially when most of what is written in the book has nothing to do with the issue. I was reading a forum. Where someone had a system that wouldn't read a disk. They told the guy on the phone that he put in a PS4 game in the drive, Knack, and it would not read the disk. He also tried a Blu-Ray movie and the same thing. He specifically stated this to the person on the phone but that guy still said "does it read ps4 game disks?"

My biggest issue is the unorganized mess they have going on. Seems like no one knows what is going on. People see an online status of ready to ship and then days later they call to check the status and people on the phone say it hasn't shipped yet. Then when it finally does ship, they often get wrong tracking info, or CS says they don't know if it actually was sent out. It's the most unorganized mess I've ever heard about.

Okay, even though I normally say no to extended warranties I think it's playing with fire while doused in gas to not get an extended warranty on a launch console.

Mine was Amazon. Earlier in this thread we talked about Sony vs Squaretrade. It seems Sony warranty (I won't get the no-fault one) is the way to go because it's 3 full years. Any updates since then?

I guess I gotta plug the thing in first to buy warranty (it's still boxed up!), which means I can't really keep it closed until Xmas. I think there is only a 30 day window.

Yes you have thirty days to buy the Sony warranty. But I've heard CS reps will remind you if you want to purchase extra warranty. You can purchase it on the web I think. Login with your psn Id and go to the warranty section and buy it if you want. When you setup your ps4 I think it goes by the day you connect it and set up your account for the first time.
Maybe have a family member open it for you and test it out make sure everything is working so you don't wait until Xmas to find an issue. I too am getting their regular warranty, no accidental coverage needed as I take great care of my stuff and don't have kids. I bought mine on the 15th so I have until Dec 15 to purchase the extra coverage. Going to do that this week when I get paid.

If you buy it on the PSN store, it qualifies for the $10 back promo for $60 spent they currently have going on :D

Nice so I'll have $20 bucks in my psn wallet. Do you know when this promotion ends ? Hopefully not before Friday. Which means you would need to get the accidental coverage because it's $60 vs $50 for just regular warranty.

Can you use the Mic on the controller but output ALL audio including voice chat to main speakers?

There is no Microphone inside the controller. There is a mic with the mono headset.

You can use the mono headset plugged into the controller as a mic with mono sound, you can then select the PS4 to just send you chat audio to the headset with the rest of the game sound sent out the HDMI.

Or you can send all audio to the mono headset, which cuts off the sound to HDMI.

I haven't found a way to send all audio to the HDMI with the mono headset plugged in.

I see, thanks for the heads up. Not sure what I would do with psn wallet cash except renew my psn plus membership. I'm not a fan of buying digital games.

There's going to be a bunch of cool Indie games this next 6-8 months I bet.

There are going to be a lot of games that you wont be able to get a disc for sadly. I'm not a fan of buying digital on consoles myself, but at least PS+ gives you some nice sale prices at times as well.

Yeah I guess I'll get it before the 3rd. They do have some neat indie games. I want to play octodad especially.

Edit: I wonder if that promo only applies to games, but looks like it says any psn purchase.

I'm not buying any discs for my PS4. I'm tired of filling up my shelves with discs and having to get up to swap them out. Currently I have all my games available on the console so all I have to do is pick up my controller and start playing. Aesthetically it also looks much better that a console is out of view. :) My goal is to never use the disc drive.

I'll fill up the HDD before long myself. I've already gotten past the half way point.

It does, someone over in Neogaf confirmed it earlier in the week.

I have no issues with digital games (the size of my Steam account can attest to that).

My problem is 2 fold for digital games for consoles:

1. Price. When the digital copy is in most cases more expensive than the physical copy I can get, I have a big problem with that. Add in the fact I can recoup some of my money if I decide to trade/sell of a game. I don't trade/sell games often but sometimes I do. Good example is GTA 5. I got the game for cheap from a friend who didn't want it anymore, I played it some but really it was just GTA again and lost interest, well Best Buy had a promo going on if you traded it in in store you received $40 credit. I made money on that.

Sales have been getting better on the consoles, especially if you area PS+ member. Once the sales prices get down to good deal next to physical copy I am much more likely to purchase a digital copy instead. Also should be noted, now that Sony has allowed Amazon to make their own digital PSN store, the competition SHOULD hopefully start helping with pricing a lot more.

2. Trust. I'm not sure how much I can truly trust these platform holders in the long run. Who knows what policy change will happen in the future (or if they sell of the division). When the next gen comes out (PS5/X2) after a few years will they cut off legacy support for older consoles and not allow downloads of digital content anymore? I play my old games A LOT and am not keen on having stuff I paid for being taken away from me. At least with Steam I can back up all my downloads and have that safety net. With consoles, I am at their whim.

I buy games, play them, sell them. A $60 digital game is $60. On a disc it's more like $20-25.

Thanks for heads-up on the PSN--I will def do this by the 3rd, because for some games digital does make sense and/or is just convenient enough to go for it.

EDIT: To order the warranty without going through the console itself one must call the number (online just sends you to a number). Guy there said that it doesn't use the PSN Wallet and so it seemed to us the $10 for $60 credit didn't apply. I just got the regular warranty for $50.

I'm in the same boat, which is why I'll gladly buy digital games for PC but tend to stick with the free PS+ games for console. I prefer to buy console games on disc or cartridge.

Unlike Steam, Sony has a total monopoly over sales of digital PlayStation games, so they have no incentive to reduce the price or put the games on sale.
