LOL. I think sometimes a few people forget many are married...and well...there's a give and take when it comes to certain things. My wife LET me get a 70" TV..but she won't let me move the couch closer to it :(

lol i "surprised" my wife with my projector by setting it on a table and projecting it on the wall of my basement before i had done anything to it. she was pissed at first but she thought it was so badass at the same time. once she found out it was $3k that didn't help.

oh and this was before we even had dressers lol.

Better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Psh, my wife likes technology. She wants the stuff before I do. Ya'll need to upgrade ;)

Also she pretty much wants me to buy whatever I want (have only been encouraged), probably because I don't want much though. If I wanted a new $50k car she would want me to get it. It probably helps she'd get my current car ;)

you can get a 8port gigE switch for like 20$

I am going to look into getting something bigger. I do not know much about routers as I have not needed one in a while. I am currently using an AT&T U-Verse modem with a built in router.

Any specific suggestions?

That would make no sense. Far more likely is that certain ISP's are throttling PSN traffic.

They never throttled for me on ps3 and I still have Comcast. It could be the wireless card. The ps3 had 100% signal in the same location under the same network and router. The ps4 has 76% signal. You can check under internet settings.

Isn't this because the PS3 has its own lower cap?

(Sample numbers)

PS3 - 10mbit
PS4 - 20mbit

And you're getting something like 15mbit for example.

Have you tried a cable to see if that fixes the speed issues?

I'm on Time Warner and some days are amazeballs and others are dial-up.

it is a fun game that is starting to feel a bit repetitive as i get near the end of it. to me it will have 0 replay value so i probably will never put it back in my ps4 again. the graphics are okay nothing special, and the environments are pretty stale for the most part. i do like some of the enemies though and the game has it's own charm to it.

there are some very questionable design decisions in the game. for instance, there are "cutscenes" that last like 3-4 seconds, that will have knack climbing up a wall or jumping over this HUGE gap that you wouldn't be able to do if you were in control. just kind of odd. there are other parts where you are small knack and have to go through vents to open the other side of doors to let the other guys with you get into areas. well last night, i went through a vent, did some stuff (but didn't open any doors) then all of a sudden the guys i'm with walk up behind me.

i also question a lot of the respawn points, as well as the whole health thing. like you will have a big ass health bar, but an enemy will take 90% of it away in one hit. then another enemy will take like 15%. it just doesn't make much sense as to why it happens.

all in all i personally would not pay $60 for this game, especially downloadable where you can't sell it after it is finished. i'd pay like maybe $40.

sssoooo ... anyone wanna buy mine for $35 when i'm done? :p

You know, normally I have great respect for Ars Technica and I enjoy reading their site, but their comparison of the hardware is ridiculous.

The CPUs share the same architecture and multi-core design, the GPUs vary only slightly in clock speed and number of compute units, and while the PS4 has a faster unified pool of GDDR5 RAM, the Xbox One makes up for this (at least partially) with a small cache of ultra-fast ESRAM.

A 50% more powerful GPU is "varying slightly"?? If he was reviewing a pair of GPUs with these specs, he'd be laughed out of the room. Thankfully, our own AT has a much better comparison. This is not to say that hardware is the only factor that should influence your choice of console - far from it. But educated consumers need honest coverage to weigh all their options, not sugarcoated nonsense.

Unfortunately where my ps4 is located I can't get a cable in there. If my monitor had hdmi in with speakers I could take it in the bedroom and try it.

Sony has a list of ports that should be open. I'm reading on the ps forums and one guy had his sent in for slow WiFi downloads. They recommended opening ports in the router too. Another user claimed Comcast mentioned they had issues with the psn connection. I really don't wan to send my system in.

Ars had another article saying the difference between 720 and 1080 was very minor as well. A tech site saying that.....yeah

Eh, mine does too, except she didn't like the projectors which is what I initially wanted, but that still doesn't mean she'll let me put the couch 6 feet from the TV. :)

When we picked up a 65" TV and set it up, I told my wife that it was too big for the room. She just looked at me like NO, bigger is better!

Only thing she didn't like about the projector was having to use it in the basement. She doesn't like basements.

my wife is always asking me if i wanna watch movies in our theater when there are football or hockey games on that i want to watch. she asks me to watch more movies than i ask her to watch movies. but with x1 and ps4 out, there will be less movie watching and more gaming being done down there lol.

You have to look at it subjectively. Yes, if you put the two side by side the differences becme more apparent, especially if you circle it in red and show people where to look. The thing is, if average joe walks in from the street and sits 10 feet from a ~40 inch tv and didn't have access to information such as display resolution or console maker, could that person be able to easily tell they were using a particular console. I say no.

I'm not saying there aren't those that can tell the nuances, but there are still people out there that from 20 feet can't tell they are watching DVD from Blu-ray. I could probably tell the difference if the TV was large enough...you could probably tell the difference...mom and pop in oaklahoma and average joe gamer is not going to be able to or at least not easily.

Like I tell people who buy D-SLRs, once you start pixel peeping and getting bent out of shape over photo quality at the pixel level, you lose sight of the big picture and suck all the enjoyment out of it.

The real question is, does the reduction in quality make the game less enjoyable? Is CoD Ghosts an inferior game on the XB1 versus the PS4? The experience is virtually identical, in spite of the resolution That's what ARS was trying to convey. Raw numbers can be use to objectively view the technology, but how that translates into the experience is completely subjective and as such can't be judged as a polorizing argument.

To everyone in general:

It feels like core gamers have turned into politicians with their only goal to trash the other guy into oblivion and push their own agendas as if there is only ever one answer. There is so much ego stroking related to these two consoles its astonishing. Every post has the same basic flow of "I'm awesome. Disagree at your own risk."

i game on 140" 1.78 and watch movies on 170" 2.35, there is a major difference between 720p and 1080p. i need 4K resolution. please stop gaming on TVs.

1080p projectors are under $1000 nowadays with zero input lag.

Why the 2 projectors, because of the aspect ratio? Black bars really bother you THAT much? :)

Do you ever get out of your moms basement? Just curious. You seem to be looking for someones approval.

To be fair, I'll be doing the same thing when I buy my next house (I have a measly 100" screen right now) in the next year or so. It is much better than TV's.

My biggest gripe is the hoops you have to jump through to hook up OTA antenna. When will they start coming with digital tuners??
