Wild guess - a black box with 2 USB ports, a slot-loading disc drive, and an HDMI port.

Being serious though, the enclosure will probably maintain the overall form of the PS2 and PS3 - that of a larger box stacked on top of a smaller box. Probably glossy at launch, though I would much rather have the matte finish of the PS3 slim. We'll probably see the exact same ports that are on the most recent revision of the PS3, plus whatever proprietary port they use for the Eye. The HDMI port will have to be 1.4 now for the 4k output. Only thing left up for grabs is the port for the power cable - will the power supply be inside or in an external brick?

That is a good point, they better have either a proprietary port or a seperate usb port on the back of the console. Having two on the back would be welcomed because having a PS Eye and the guitar hero reciever on the PS3 was a pain in the ass with only two in the front.

Existing PSN purchases don't carry over to PS4. Not shocking

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/21/psn-transfers-ps4/

Sony really presented a well thought out platform from a design perspective, but things like no PSN carryover is dissappointing. This continues to be the one area where the PC differentiates: the PC/OS is a platform, not your model of your PC.

Wow 8 AMD jaguar cores, thats like the power of 2 netbooks. While this disappoints I have to think the Wii u tech is only 3x slower. Not nearly the same gap as a Wii vs. a ps3 or 360.

I had hope to see some FX quad core power here....

The Jaguar cores are solid processors. A developer at B3D had done some testing on Bobcat versus the PPEs in the Xbox 360 and PPE in Cell and from an IPC perspective his testing showed a 4x edge for Bobcat (0.8 IPC for Bobcat versus 0.2 for Xenon). Sure, they are half the frequency but they are easier to use, fewer "gotchas," more efficient, and there are nearly 2.5x as many in the box. True, they are small and sip power (hence the question why not more?) but it seems well balances against the 18 CU GPU.

Even if the CPU cores were deemed dissappointing 8GB of fast GDDR5 and an up-to-date gamer class GPU (18CUs @ 800MHz is about the ballpark for a Pitcairn GCN 7850) are both deserving of thumbs up. That, and a HDD standard and standard USB and BT, really round out a nice machine.

I like the way this looks:

Airflow would be awful though.

Are you saying you won't get a PS4 because your universal remote won't work for it?

Probably. Lack of an IR sensor makes it useless as a media center. Upgrading my Harmony One because Sony is too fucking stupid to put an IR sensor in their machine is unacceptable.

One interesting thing I'm noticing (and it'll be an issue for both companies), other than prettier games which may or may not be awesome as we've been duped before (Killzone I'm looking at your PS3 launch preview) there isn't anything major that'll pull people in. The last two PS releases had DVD/Blu to help drive sales of it. This go around there isn't a new entertainment standard. I'll personally be hard pressed to spend a ton of money on a launch for either console if there's only a few games to play and no other major reason to own it.

Launches are always slow for new consoles, things don't start ramping up until at least a year in.

No offense man, but missing out on awesome games because a remote won't work sounds pretty dumb to me. I have never loved a remote that much.

Am I the only one disappointed by this announcement. For one, they didn't even show the console, second, all the 'revolutionary' features are rather silly. I want a console that plays kick ass video games, not a social media hub where I can watch videos of other assholes tea-bagging their opponents. Sony dropped the ball.

I sound like an old gamer.

I'm in the "who cares" crowd regarding what the console looks like. What it does is much more important to me than what color it comes in. All I really needed to know was if the controller that was leaked was the official one or not.

It occurs to me, architecturally, the PS4 is very similar to the Xbox 360, just with a different instruction set.

If the Xbox Next is similar to PS4, we may see xbox next offer back compat for both Xbox and Xbox 360.

Social is what people want and Sony is giving them that. I don't use Facebook or Twitter but millions do and that's the main way they communicate now. It's something they had to do. You want to keep people on your platform as long as possible and giving people ways to do social media on it is going to keep them on it longer.

Did you not watch the games they showed? They looked pretty awesome. And if you thought they were too focused on the social stuff, just wait until MS announces.

They showed off the controller yesterday in the presentation. It is very close to the prototype pictures that were going around.

Lol he's messing around, he said he PRE pre ordered.

No, it is a real thing. I went to Gamestop and got on the "list" to get on the preorder. I got a $0 receipt and everything. The employee and something printed out with instructions for entering it in the system.

What the hell? It's available for pre-order?

Some companies are allowing you to be put on an info list. They'll let you know when info comes around about pricing and pre-ordering as well as games to be available at launch.

That's NOT a reservation of the system. That means they will email or text you when they have further info to share such as the price, when you can start reservations, what games will be available etc.

You are not guaranteed to get one, you are not guaranteed a reservation, and since they don't know the price...you are not guaranteed a certain pricing. If It's anything like before, the reservations sold out in 3 hours. SO if you have to work and you expect to get it at gamestop you are screwed if they are severely limited. I am hoping the availability is good enough that they can sell a good number of reservations. Gamestop is right by my house and I'm friends with the manager, that doesn't help me get a system but I do like to support his store because he has taken care of me in the past when he did not need to.

If You are lucky you get in on the reservations. If you are not lucky enough for that the store may be taking names and numbers for when they receive more. They will call the people on the list and they can come pickup a system if they still want it.

Yeah given that they seem to want the camera to be more integral to general use of the system I figured that it would plug in to the back so its out of the way. Figured they would add an extra USB port or something proprietary on the back. I guessed that it was proprietary because those charts with the specs for the Eye list the connection as "PS4 dedicated connector (AUX connector)". Also says 2m cable, same as the last Eye. Won't be a problem for most of us, but anybody with a gear rack somewhere else is screwed again. I believe the last Eye wouldn't work with extensions. If they haven't already indicated a wireless version I'm tempted to believe that it just won't happen.

Pretend you didn't hear the social media part and you will see the PS4 will be above the Xbox in hardware capabilities; hence the PS4 gives you the best console to play kick ass video games for this gen. Whats disappointing about that? These side gimmicks are Xbox's only way to surpass the PS4 because hardware alone its looking like the PS4 will have it beat.
