Wow, I just got a shipping notice (wait, today's Sunday!). 16GB black, ordered at Oct 31, 2013 2:10:11 PM CDT--over an hour after orders had opened up (after the page had cycled through a period of "out of inventory"). So compared to the N4, where I ordered earlier and had shipment delayed for weeks after the promised ship date, this is such a better experience.

Bah...I see the time has increased from "2-3 weeks" to "3-4 weeks".
I also see that the 16GB version of both models are OOS now. Prior to my earlier post, both 16GB models had said "3-4 weeks".

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on 32GB Black because I don't want the same OOS issue to happen to me and I'm not sure how long Google will keep going with this(4-5 weeks? 5-6 weeks? etc...or is there a hard cap on a certain number of weeks before they officially mark a phone model as OOS?), even though I won't need the phone until almost a month after that. It will sit there unopened for sometime.

Probably has to do with Asia. I'm sure if you use a proxy or remote desktop, it might work.
Either have a family member order one for you(or give them your Google account info)

Or just wait until you get back.
There's plenty of units in stock, so there's no rush.
I ordered on 11/01 at 2:11 AM and the order was expected to leave the warehouse and be shipped on 11/22/13, but I just got a shipping notice stating it has shipped.

I'm surprised at how many of you are getting this before waiting for a decent review.

The thing is people will get this phone regardless unless the reviews are THAT bad. It's highly unlikely this phone would be any worse than the N4, and considering how that phone was severely limited in many ways, everyone still ended up jumping on board.

And come on, try to apply that logic to the iPhone fans who line up or preorder the next iPhone before waiting for a review.

#firstworld problems: I have a team outing on Monday and a business trip on Tuesday. So if my shipping & receiving department at work doesn't drop the box at my desk on Monday and holds it, I won't be able to get it til I return on Thursday. Sigh. Considering skipping the team outing. It's a project team not my functional team so at least that's understandable that "I have work to do before my business trip."

The thing for me is that features like:

- runs AOSP, no manufacturer bloat
- developer friendly = CM will work in no time

are FAR more important than what reviews will say. So sure, I put up with the N4's crappy camera, bad battery, low storage, back sliding off the $60 wireless charging puck, etc. It's not optimal, but I'm not really eyeing another phone anyway. And unless the N5 is THAT bad, there's little chance of me buying a GS4 GPE even if that is my backup choice.

For people who could just as easily swing to an HTC One/G2/GS4 to a N5 or vice versa, yes I think those people should wait for reviews. You mentioned to me you do like some of what TouchWiz brings and that bloat isn't as big of a deal for you, so yeah I would think that for you, there's not enough out there in a Nexus to compel you to get one. For me, and probably some other users here, it's pretty much Nexus or nothing. BTW, I feel just like an iFan saying things like this.

Why would you put up with that? Shouldn't we guide manufacturers buy buying what's good rather than what's crappy?

That's pretty surprising. Maybe Google Playstore is no longer the world's worst retailer. Only the second worst.

Either the demand is way lower than anticipated or they were crazy conservative with the ship dates.

But I rather buy from Worstbuy than direct from Google. At least Worstbuy will offer free shipping.

I ordered less than 20 minutes after going on sale and I'm still seeing a pending status and shipping by the 5th. What the hell is Google doing?

From the many Samsung, HTC, and LG owners complaining about stuttering and lack of smoothness, it sounds like bloat does impact performance.

An excellent launch performance would have been actually shipping in the order that orders were placed not in what seems to be to be a totally random order. I ordered mine within 20 minutes of them going on sale. Mine really sure have shipped before yours. I still have a "Pending" status. Also, making enough so that they don't sell out in a matter of a few hours would have been nice too.

Exactly this. Had a Verizon GS4 for a week and returned it. Some things were snappy but overall there was just way too much lag. This was apparently fixed in a later update but the phone should never have shipped in that state IMO. Ultimately one of the reasons why I went back to the iPhone and now have a 5S. Couple other reasons, but that had a factor and reinforced other experiences I had had with Android.

If they had delayed the announcement any longer to add inventory for the launch they would have been lynched.

As to the shipping order, there may be warehouse location or specific SKU reasons behind some people getting theirs first. There may not be. Im just speculating. (Also mine arrives tomorrow. 🙂 ) This launch was still a hell of a lot better than the N4's launch.

You are aware of how "shipping" works right?

They don't ship out 1 box at a time. They ship out a 1000 boxes out at a time going to a certain geographic area.

It would be asinine to ship them out in the order in which they were placed.

Google is not the shipping company. UPS is. They manage how the products are shipped. I don't see why orders wouldn't be processed in the order they are received. They may be batched, but it's still in the order they're received.

With that said I'll disagree with jimv1983 that this is some sort of flawed launch. It may not be perfect, but it's pretty damn good.

Where is yours shipping from, BTW? I'm in the midwest, and my order is shipping from the UPS hub in Louisville Kentucky. AFAICT, last year's N4 launch all shipped from Louisville; is that still the case for N5, or are there multiple origin locations now?

As far as I know most centralized major warehouses are in Louisville because that is the central UPS hub. You get secondary facilities or smaller facilities in other areas (Sparks, NV, is the closest one to me), but almost all UPS shipping in the US starts at or goes through Louisville (excepting packages that start and end in the same region).

For those complaining that their early order hasn't yet shipped. During the Nexus 4 launch my co-worker and I placed an order seconds apart on launch day. I received shipping notice and tracking information the next day, he didn't. Both our phones arrived on the same day, he received his tracking information after the phone had actually been delivered.

Shipping to Ontario comes from Kentucky as well.
