I'd go cheap with teh cpu - in a month or two the 939 dual core will drop again...

Does anyone know where a 2nd SPDIF connector can be found for the K8NGM2-FID? What kind of cables do these connectors use- RCA cables?

Do you mean an onboard connector by "2nd SPDIF connector"? There is only one SPDIF-Out connector (JSPDO1) and one SPDIF-In connector (JSPDI1) on the board.

What I mean is that the mb comes with only 1 SPDIF connector that plugs into the mb, but you have both spdif out and spdif in, which would require 2 things to connect to the mb. So where can I find a 2nd one?

I flashed back to 3.50 because sometime, the system won't boot at power on, and I needed to reset to make it boot.

can anyone recommend an appropriate HD for an HTPC? I wasn't sure how much a hard drive would effect capture and encoding performance. I was thinking 2x Seagate 320GB drive or at least an 80GB and a 320GB drive, but I 've seen some comments that Seagates seem to record capture slower and with more artifacts. Anyone have any input into this? Thanks.

Strictly analog, or analog+HD recording?
If you're doing HD, I'd recommend 2x250 (or 2x320).
If strictly Analog, 1x250 (or 1x320) is enough.
I can't comment on your last statement.

the comment was something i saw in the newegg reviews of the Seagate 320. i thought it seemed rather odd, but i figured i'd ask anyways. Newegg is having a deal on the 320's so ima gonna pounce. thanks for the input.

I just bought this board and I've been experienced some problems when adjusting the gamma settings for video and TV in NVIDIA's control panel.

When I check the box that says "Use RGB gamma" and begin moving one of the bars, the picture starts to look like crap. This is what it looks like after I've been adjusting the settings and even unchecked the "Use RGB-gamma" box (the result also depends on where I leave the settings before I uncheck the box). Ignore the red and green which are reflections from when I took the shot with my camera, instead look at those bleedings whites.

It doesn't even matter if I choose default settings, it still doesn't go away. The only solution I've found so far is to change the colour depth to 16 bit and then go back to 32 bit -- then it's back to normal again. I've also tried all sorts of players -- VLC, Zoom Player, WMP etc. -- and played both DIVX or DVD, but the problem is still there. I suspect that it's some kind of a hardware failure since I've also been trying installing older drivers. I know that I can change RGB gamma settings in programs like FFDShow, but I don't like the feeling in having a faulty board (if that's the case).

Have any of you experienced this kind problem?

I just installed the mentioned drivers (v84.21), but the gamma settings is only available for "Desktop" and blanked out for "Overlay".

Can someone who own this board please check if you've the same trouble as described above?

Why do you need to change the gamma settings?
Maybe your northbridge is overheating and what you are seeing is artifacting? run 3dmark or something 3d intensive (like a 3d game) and then feel the northbridge (while it's still running), if it feels really really hot (like beyond just very hot cause that's reported by many users), or if it's cool to the touch (could mean that there's no contact between the NB and the heatsink) it might be overheating...

To calibrate my monitor.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've already checked that.

The following is a list of places which do not list the item as OOS, although you should definitely call to make sure before ordering.

Jinco
iShopDirec
PinnacleMicro (they list one in stock although it's a steep price)
xprice.ca
Green Net

The following link lists it as OOS but it says on their website that you can make a special request and they may be able to get ahold of one.

So I finally have all my components (4600 cpu, 1 gig ram, PS, case, HD) and when I connected the front panel and powered the system on... I hear nothing. No post beeps. No video, nothing. The fans are quiet (retail 4600 x2, and my sonata case) but they're spinning. I'm concerned about the lack of post beeps, and I can't seem to figure out why this won't boot up at all. Maybe a dead board? I hope not...

Is the 4-pin cpu plug from the PS plugged in?

try other ram, if you don't have other ram but have 2 sticks then try one at a time.
