I still can't get it to work, but that link helped me on a different machine, which only went to S1 instead of S3 on standby (fans would still run). Now I got THAT fixed. Thanks.

Update: USB resume works when I hook directly to a port on the mobo (rather than a hub). Bingo!

couple things you can try:

couple things you can try:

CnQ is off.
This is a fresh install and I have the latest everything installed.

Did you turn off all the spread spectrum settings? If not, your shooting yourself in the foot. Spread spectrum makes all your clock signals funky. On purpose. Makes the pulses wider and shorter randomly. In other words. SLIGHTLY UNSTABLE. This supposedly reduces radio interference, and is a "green" requirement. Also though, is really crappy when you are trying to get the most out of your system.

That's a pretty good test for rendering and cpu, it's a good test to run after passing memtest and prime95.

This version is about the best match for this board with the 6150 video. If you want to see 2 FPS you could try the newer versions too, LOL. Seriously, the newer versions test mostly video. This version is a really good overall test for CPU/RAM/Rendering. Once installed (FREE) you can also compare your results with other people and see how you did compared to the rest of the world with the online database.

I am about to purchase this mobo and would like to check that the rest of my spec is sound as well as ask a few questions

My spec is as follows

could someone with board BIOS v 3.20 and using integrated video tell me what video BIOS version they have. You can see this with right click on desktop->nvidia->your monitor. Then select the topmost item (geforce 6150) in the left panel.

with BIOS 3.13, my video BIOS is 5.51.22.33.18

Hi,
I have very similar setup with you and the exact same HDD. No problem at all with XP, make sure you have latest patch. I did clean install with XP SP2 and it recognize the drive right away.
Check out the first post. There's mentioning about Maxtor compatilbility and some jumper setting. Make sure you get the jumper set correctly.
My Corsair runs fine.
For SATA cable, the shorter, the better. Don't put them together with other wire. The weak point of SATA cable is, lack of shield....

still waiting for new SpeedFan to be relased,
with MSI PC Alert being ... just crap.
And NO - the "system" temp in PC Alert is none of the bridges.

As I mentioned several pages ago, probes show rather high temperatures, like 58C on southbridge, and 71C on northbridge right now
(23C ambient, windows + borwser + foobar, Nbridge is too hot to touch)

I've got a question about the memory freqency when overclocking with this board.
I've got a set of Mushkin Blue 2x1GB PC3200 2-3-2-5 memory so I'd like to run it at 200MHz with those timings.
I also have an X2 3800+ that does 2.5GHz at stock volts no problem. So, I'm trying to run the CPU at 2.5 and get my memory running as fast as it can go. But, when I set the Memclock Value to 166MHz in the BIOS, my memory speed (according to CPU-Z and Sandra bandwidth testing) stays at 166MHz. I can't get it to go any higher. Is this a limitation of using 2GB? I've even tried flashing down to BIOS v3.00 and setting the Memclock to 250MHz. It stayed at 166 in CPU-Z. Is it just being reported incorrectly? I thought this might be the case, but using the memory bandwidth benchmark in Sandra, the mem speed isn't changing at all. I can't figure it out.

Also when I use default BIOS settings, and boot to windows, my memory goes down to 133MHz. The CPU is at its default speed, so I should be running at 200MHz memory, shouldn't I? That's the default value, I thought...

Hi, there just got this mobo last monday, been testing it for a week now, and thought I weigh in with some info and questions:

My setup:
Athlon 64 3000+ Venice core + boxed cooler
FID version mobo, 3.00 bios.
1x maxtor 250GB pata harddisk
1x FDD
1x NEC 1100 DVD-burner (regionfree hacked)
1x 120 mm fan blowing gently at the harddisk
Micro-atx case (used to hold an intel ca810e mobo)
1x PSU 380 Watt, 2 fanner, got it from a housemate. OK, just a bit loud.

Windows 2000 with (Unofficial) service pack 5

My experience:
-The FID didn't come with a sp/dif bracket. This was last week, so it sure as hell isn't supplied standard every time! Check with your supplier before ordering.

-It also didn't come with a usb-bracket.

-The Norton Internet security you get with the mobo is a 90-day trial version. Beware.

-Installation was a breeze. I like the boxed cooler for it's ease of installation. No more risking crushing your cpu. One thing tho: The ATX connecter is poorly placed and interferes with the hdd/fdd casing on my mATX case. It's very likely it will too in other mATX cases.

-CPu doesn't get hot at all, and is a good overclocker. Details:
I'm booting it right now at 9x250FSB= 2250 Mhz. CPU@ Idle: 28dC. @Full Load: 43dC max. Please take note: Cpu will run hotter with Prime95 AND cpuburn running than with only Prime95.
Above temp readings is with CnQ enabled, so at 1.4V max. With Case closed. With Case opened temp is 1-3 dC lower. HT-bus is 1000cpu-to-nb16-16, 800nb-to-sb8-8. Runs stable.
Memory is at limit->183 Mhz, so runs at about 228 Mhz. Voltage=2.7V
With Clockgen, in windows, I managed to get it at around 2570 MHz before reboots occur.
Haven't tried oc'ing beyond that. Can run it at around 2400, but haven't tested that speed thoroughly.

-Power consumption is incredibly low. Above system is measured by a kill-a-watt type power socket pass-through meter. +/- 77 Watt idle, about 110Watt@full cpu load. This is with CnQ enabled. My AthlonXP system runs 155Watt idle.

QUESTIONS:
-USB: I have a few old usb brackets from Asus mobo's left. Can I use those on my FID?

-I have two sticks of 512Mb ram, but it won't run in dual channel mode. Are there ways to try to force this in dual channel mode, or are there ways to see why it won't run in dual channel mode? Both sticks look physically the same, just different stickers, and in PCwizard2006 they have exactly the same specs. Do I need to tone down the speeds before it runs in dual channel mode? Please advise.

-Has somebody tried to hack the bios yet for cpu voltage mod and similar? My current bios is fine, it's just a shame later bios's are not as good. One would expect later bioses to become both more stable and quicker, but apparently Msi has other plans.

-PC Alert is a bit of a resource hog and won't record my harddisk temp (which is 28-30dC btw). I tried Speedfan but it won't see anything but my hd. Any tool out there that will do both?

-Apparently, the Realtek drivers come with spyware! Check your startup items. Does anybody know what SkyTel.exe does? No info on the net available.

-Does anybody have any details on how to build an optical sp/dif out/in ? I prefer optical over coaxial.


EDIT: Forgot to mention one thing: The onboard lan is apparently a bit finnicky with non-cat5e cables. If you installed the lan drivers, connected the cable, and then get a "cable disconnected" popup in windows, in regular intervals, then try another cable.

Since some of the ALC88x series supports VOIP on-board, and it's
the same drivers for the whole series, and SkyTel is a VOIP provider,
I'd be willing to bet it's VOIP component for the audio driver.

SkyTel.exe is a skype-related program which is now included in R1.37. skype is a free P2P (peer to peer) audioconferencing tool that includes VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and an instant messenger.

I bought my board about a month ago and didn't get an SPDIF bracket either, I've been searching for one.

My cpu is at "max" (for this board) o/c... 3200+@2500mhz (250fsb) and shows the EXACT same temps as yours... I think they are being reported incorrectly. I use the AMD stock cooler too.


ANYONE know where I can get an optical bracket, this is useless to me as an HTPC without one! PLEASE, I will even BUY ONE YOU MADE.

Thanks for the info. I don't use VoIP so I don't need it. But that's not the spyware part. Skytel was the only other part I couldn't figure out. I'm not @home right now, but when I get home, I'll report what program is the spyware.

BTW, I figured out the dual-channel part, thanks to Renethx opening post. I recall reading in a review that you had to stick both sticks in same-colored slots to get dual-channel, and the table in the manual is slightly misleading if you don't read it very carefully.
Had to tone down my memory to 166@250FSB to get it to run error-free in dual-channel, but that's well worth it of course.

Bought me a msi 7600GT today, the silent heatpipe version. Gonna enjoy this board. :^)

I'll probably try to oc the cpu more in the future, but it's not worth another week of testing to me now. Time to play.

One thing tho, CnQ is a bitch with Gordian Knot. I have to hit ctrl-alt-del manually for every encoding pass and set VirtualdubMod on normal or high priority, otherwise the cpu won't go to full power. The same with Prime95 of course. One would expect 100% cpu utilization to trigger CnQ to go to max cpu power, but it doesn't.
Any workaround for this that works for all apps?
If I have to hit ctrl-alt-del for every app I want to give full power, I'm better of disabling CnQ.

Hi,
I'm having problems getting my K8NGM2-FID working with an SATA Samsung Spinpoint 250Gig. Anyone got any ideas? I've tried setting the jumpers on the back the same as the Maxtor drive fix and it didn't make any difference. <edit> Bios version 3.0<edit>

I've got a slipstreamed XP SP2 install and it gets to the boot menu then as soon as it tries to access the hard drive it hangs with the Hard drive light on and the screen black.

I'm currently installing the XP onto an old IDE hard drive I had and it seems to be working fine so it's definitely an issue with the SATA drive. It also definitely XP SP2 so that shouldn't be a problem.

I've run out of ideas 🙁.

Oops, nearly forgot to add. I've "succesfully" managed to install Mythdora (a myth/fedora based Linux distribution) already so it must be some kind of conflict with Windows. By "successfully" I mean it'll boot and goes to the fedora login prompt but there's numerous problems with the install that I haven't bothered to debug yet.

I HAD SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH 300G WD IDE DRIVE.
I SOLVED MY PROBLEM BY USING WHILE HDD AS C: PARTITION, AND INSTALLING WIN XP PRO SP2 ON IT.
LATER I USED ACRONIS DISK DIRECTOR SUIT 10 TO MAKE ADITIONAL 3 PARTITIONS.

- Speedfan 4.28 has NForce410 support added, I expect/hope for NForce430 soon

I am a bit puzzled/worried by this. For example, if you read the reviews on Newegg some people say that the chipset gets very hot (too hot to touch), while others mention that it runs cool and is only warm to the touch.

What is the impact on a chip's longevity of running constantly at 70 to 80 degrees C?

Is there a simple way to put a fan on the chipset? Also, if anyone can suggest an improved ***easy to install*** passive heatsink, I would be willing to listen.

However, I also understand that replacing the heatsink will void the warranty.
