The first image to come out is the WindowsXP logo with the loading bar. As my LCD TV (btw, it is LG 32LX1R), has a DVI-I input, I am able to get the bootup Post if I connect the VGA out to the DVI connector with a VGA to DVI converter cable instead. This means that the problem happens only on digital signal and not analog. I have yet to try on LCD monitors but so far I have not heard anyone with this problem except if they use it on LCDTV. Perhaps it takes longer for LCDTV to process digital video signals. It looks to cool for a HTPC to startup without the initial bootup Post but just wondering if there is any problem with the motherboard or the LCDTV.

I connect DVI->LCD monitor and Component->hdtv. At first I didn't get any BIOS or even the 'windows loading' screen on DVI. I then changed a setting in BIOS under adv. bios settings, I don't remember what it's called, but the choices are: auto, RGB, and TV. I selected auto. Now I get the 'windows loading' screen on both displays, and I will get BIOS screen on both displays if I hit Del during bootup.

My guess is it takes a couple of seconds for the board to figure out the video connections, by which time the BIOS screen is gone. However, if I hit Del to enter setup, or if there's a problem during boot, then the board will "catch up" and display whatever there is to display, be it a text screen or VGA startup screen, which works out just fine.

Hello. I am not sure if this problem has already been discussed as there are so many pages but I am having a problem with the onboard realltek audio. I've tried using both the drivers on cd and the newest ones to the same effect. The sound quality is really bad. I hear static, pops, and everything sounds like they are coming from laptop speakers even though I am using either headphones or my logitechs. The audio stutters also. I get the same audio quality for both the line out on the back and the headphone jack from the front I/O I connected to the mobo.

I am also experiencing another problem. My dvd drive is taking 40 minutes or more to drag the contents of a dvd. I had originallly had it in an external enclosure and it would take only about 10 minutes or so through usb2.0. The dvd drive is currently set to master on I think the first ide channel with no other devices attached. The PIO mode in the bios is 4 and the udma mode is 2, those are the highest values that can be set. I've tried flashing the bios to the newest version but nothing changes. I just recently tried dragging a dvd onto my desktop and after about 15 minutes, while I was messing around with the audio options in the realtek control panel, my computer blue screened. I don't know if this may or may not be the cause, but I AM using a NeoHE power supply that came with my antec p150.

I believe there is some delay in sending the signals. If my turn on my PC after shutting it down for long period eg, a day, I can catch a glimpse of the Bios booting which comes in a quick flash. I tried repeated restarting and shutting down in windows, somehow the Post screen disappeared faster each time until a point where I can no longer see the post screen except the windows loading. My conclusion is when the system is first booted up after a long shutdown, video signal is reaches the TV faster. After warming up the signal tends to slow down ????? Or perhaps it is due to the TV instead and not the PC???

I am also using the SATA cables that came with my 2 year old Asus a7n8x deluxe motherboard. So I have no idea if that's the reason why NCQ is greyed out or not. It still shows up as SATA II so I figured that the cables were fine. But as winguy says it might be because our MSI mobo could be an initial 400/430 chipset batch that doesn't support NCQ.

Good luck...

I still have this memory timing problem.

At boot up, it shows 333hmhz, and PCmark04 says my memory frequency is 333. But the cpu-z program shows 208.3 mhz on the memory tab, and 200mhz on the SPD tab.

I have set my bios to overclock my Opteron 146 to 2500, just like the instructions in Quick overclock recipes. I have also made sure and verified w/ cpu-z and PCmark04 that my chips are in the proper slots 1 & 2.

My memory is Corsair 1GB PC3200 Kit (400MHz, 2x512MB) DDR 184Pin - Model #VS1GBKIT400 .

The other strange thing is that if I don't do any overclock and leave the bios as default, my boot up shows 400mhz timings.

I know I'm probably not missing much performance but it is frustrating.

Can anybody help me with this?

thanks

Thanks for the great guide. I looked thru this thread and didn't see anything on the nvidia graphics driver versions, and PureVideo software but I'll get to that later.

I have the MSI -FID board and see that the MSI site shows v81.86 for XP/2000. But I'm building an MCE box, so I went to the nvidia site and see v81.98 (if I select MCE as my OS). Yet your guide says to use 84.21 which seems to be only for XP/2000. Do you know which is really the best version for MCE? Is the 84.21 driver all inclusive (MCE/XP/2000)? (maybe it is, as their numbering system would imply)

Also it seems that PureVideo is a driver add-on that accelerates HD material. Is there any HD accel software built into the base drivers (81.98 or 84.21)?

Thanks in advance.

Im using the 84.21 drivers with my onboard video in Windows MCE. Works like a charm. I had some issues with the nvidia decoder, but when it did work, Purevideo helped alot.

area123,

If you followed the recipe, you set Memclock Value to 166MHz, or 166 MHz x 2 = 333MHz (recall that memory is DDR, Double Data Rate), which is displayed at boot up. However the value 166MHz or 333MHz is not the actual frequency of the memory but represents the ratio of the actual frequency to the default (= SPD, Serial Presence Detect) frequency, 200MHz or 200MHz x 2 = 400MHz.

Ratio = 166/200

Actual frequency = LDT x ratio = 250MHz x 166/200 = 207.5MHz

This calulation is clearly not correct. 208.3MHz is the correct value because the actual frequency is calculated based on not LDT but the CPU frequency as in the recipe. If LDT is the default value 200MHz, then 166.7MHz will be the actual frequency.

With the default BIOS settings, Memclock Value is 200MHz or 200MHz x 2 = 400MHz, which is displayed at boot up.

I havent seen a bracket that has optical out and work with this board. Those little converter things are cheap, it probably wouldnt hurt to pick one of them up.

I'm stumped. I have my MSI 6150 board connected to my audio receiver through the RCA spdif connection. I get great

dolby digital sound but get random dropouts. The sound simply stops for about 2-3 seconds and starts again. On

average it happens about every 10 minutes or so. Sometimes longer, sometimes one right after the other. This is

not a stutter. The audio and video remain in sync. Nothing speeds up or slows down. The sound simply mutes for

2-3 seconds and then comes back on. I've searched several forums and haven't seen any posts related to an issue

like this with this board. Happens with any audio material - dvd, mpeg or avi and live tv. You can rewind back

over the section with the missed audio and hear what was there so it's not the source material - got to be hardware

or software related. Also, when source material starts I don't get sound immediately. Again a short pause and then

sound. I use XPMCE for playback but it also happens in Media Player 10 as well.

Here's my config:

MSI K8NGM2-FID GF6150
3.2 bios
Opteron 144 (not overclocked)
1 GB DDR400 Geil value type ram
60gb IDE Maxtor drive for OS and programs
160gb IDE Maxtor drive for video storage
128MB Onboard video (latest video bios update from MSI)
ALC880 onboard sound (latest driver from realtek) but only using spdif passthrough
Saphire ATI Theater 550 Pro
Avermedia A180 HDTV card
Nvidia Purevideo decoder bronze version (latest release)
Nvidia Forceware graphics driver for Win XPMCE (tried the regular XP driver as well - no difference)
IDE dvd-rom drive
USB dvd-rw drive
Microsoft MCE remote
Gyration remote keyboard & mouse
Using XPMCE for playback and live TV
Rollups 1 & 2 for XPMCE

I have a second MSI 6150 board with a very similar setup not using spdif passthrough but HD audio through 5.1 Altec

Lansing computer speakers and have no audio issues at all. Use AC3filter for dolby decoding - tried it (ac3filter)

on the problem system - still got the dropouts. I have an ATI HDTV Wonder in this system - would rather not swtich

it out with the Avermedia. The Avermedia changes digital channels quicker and I've already tore down, rebuilt and

re-installed software on both systems several times debugging problems. Both are working fairly well except for

this one last issue.

Any help?

Complete newbie here!

I'm about to buy a new PC with the board, K8NGM2-FID. Should I go with X2 3800+, X2 4200+, or X2 4800+...?
I'm planning to get 2G of OCZ Value DDR400 RAM.

Thanx

Well nVidia probably hasn't done anything to fix the 410/430 southbridges, and they'd probably not do anything. Here's the original article/discussion:

If you are doing lots of CPU intensive tasks on a daily basis and time is money, buy X2 4800+. Otherwise X2 3800+ is fast enough.

Thanks for the reply, Tom. I just wanted to confirm what I've been reading. Guess I will have to pick up a converter.

Hi all. New to the forums. This thread has been a great help in setting up and sorting out my new HTPC. I have hit a little bump in the road and I am having a tough time figuring it out.

I have been using component cables to my HDTV ( Sony 50" a10)and I have been happy with them for web surfing and watching DVD movies. I have been curious if using DVI would give me better picture quality so I ordered a DVI to HDMI cable from MonoPrice for a couple of bucks. The cable arrived and I decided to try it out.

I disconnected the component cables and connected the DVI to HDMI cable and turned on the computer. I got a "no signal/source present " message from my TV. I shut everything down and restarted and was able to get into the BIOS. As per a few other posts I changed the display options to "auto" , selected "save configuration" and rebooted.

The computer now gives two short beeps and I am unable to access the BIOS.

I have removed the DVI / HDMI cable and reconnected the component cables and everything is working fine.

Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.

my system is 3800x2 + 2x1GB ocz 3500

odd that it should be red (that supposedly indicates unsafe level).

are you trying to change it by pressing return? if so, use the + and - key to change.

I have 3 WD 400GB drives that support NCQ set up in RAID5, but I didn't know if iNCQ was being utilized or not.

Also, you say it shows up as SATA II. Where is that listed?

Thanks.

I had a question about the onbaord 'Front Panel Audio Connector'.

Im using a Zalman HD-160 case and it has front audio connectors, but the labels on its wires are different from the labels for the pins on the motherboard.

for the case, the wires are labeled:

MIC-PWR
L-Out
R-Out
RET-L
RET-R
MIC-IN
Ground

Of course on the motherboards its labeled:

Port 1L
GND
Port 1R
Presence #
Port 2R
Sense1_Retirn
Sense_Send
Key
Port 2L
Sense2_Retirn

can anyone tell me what i should plug into which pin? thanks
