If you email MSI USA tech support, they will forward it to Taiwanese tech support and your complaint may (or may not) be reflected on a new MSI driver a month later. Don't expect a quick response.

Re. RAID:

Hi,

My understanding is that this mobo supports RAID with PATA drives.

I connected to IDE drives as master and slave on the 2nd IDE, then I enabled "NVidia RAID" in the BIOS, but when I reboot, I don't see anything indicating a RAID BIOS, and pressing F10 per the manual doesn't do anything.

Is there some additional BIOS setting that I need to configure to enable the RAID BIOS?

How can I get RAID going with this mobo?

Thanks,
Jim

acronis trueimage seems to randomly freeze (and corrupt the partition table) during image restore with this mobo. had to go back to driveimage7.

MSI's website says it does:

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/..._cpu_support_detail.php?UID=702&kind=1

But, there's not indication in the above table of any BIOS version-dependencies, so I guess we can't tell for sure.

FYI, a new board I received this past Thursday from ZZF apparently came with BIOS V3.20.

rei, True Image worked for me when cloning disk, but I don't know about image restore. Are you using the latest build (8.0 Build 937 or 9.0 Build 2337)?

I just got my system up with this board.

Running an Amd 3000+ Winchester @ 2.25Ghz (250Mhz cpu-ld), 1000 Mhz NB/SB/Cpu bridges. 2.6v for the ddr.
Using Antech Aria with temps in the upper 40's deg C under load, upper 30's idle.

I am disappointed with the 6150 performance generally. This is coming from an Intel 2.6 (Oc'ed to 2.8) P4 with a ATI Radeon 9600.

Only after oc'ing and other tweaks, was I able to get smooth playback of OTA HD via a Fusion HDTV5 Lite ATSC tuner. Also WMVHD trailers had problems. All now playback ok.

Benchmarking with 3DMark05, I was able to go from 569 to 603 with tweaking, still not that good. I have seen others in reviews and such getting in the 600s to 700 - none on MSI boards; either Gigbbyte or Asus.

What's your score?

http://3dmark.com/download/?3dmark05.shtml
Futuremark - Download

Running 84.21 Geforce drivers.
8.22 Platform Drvs.
MSI MB v2.0

I also have v2 of this board, 3.2 bios, same nforce and forceware drivers as above. On X2 3800+ @ 2440mhz I get 725 for 3dmark05, which seems to be in line with scores here

http://www.pcstats.com/ArtRSS.cfm?articleid=1898&page=11

I have nb<-> cpu @ 1000mhz 16 link width. 128M video memory, 2G corsair value ddr400 RAM.

I have the purevideo decoder and get smooth hd playback w/ quite low cpu usage (<10%). Without it, I got stutters on 1080i transport streams.

Two weeks ago, I wrote this :
I have a light "problem" which seems to come from the MSI.
I'm using an iMon Knob RC. The receiver is connected in USB to the MSI.
Under operation, it emits a blue light permanently and flickers for each key hit.
The problem is that, when I shutdown my HTPC completely, the blue light remains lit.

The manufacturer sent me this explanation:

quote:
KNOB led lights on when USB 5V is active. When system is off state, generally in most of M/B USB 5V is inactive , but in your system USB 5V is active. Please update your M/B BIOS to the latest version.

Is it relative to a BIOS parameter ?
It does not occur on my other PC.

Thank you.
Does anybody else notice that USB ports remain always juiced, even when the system is in off-state ?
I have no wake-on-xxx event enabled in BIOS.
Does anybody know if MSI plan to correct this in a future BIOS update ?

Thank you.

Thanks for the very comprehensive guide - the major factor in my deciding to by this m/board rather than the Asus or Gigabyte.

Question : - Anyone managed to get the board to boot with 4 x 1 GB ram - using 2 x Corsair Value 2GB match pair kits (VS1GB400c3)
I've built a machine I intend to use for development / hosting VMWare machines - hence the max RAM

When I install all four DIMMS - no boot - no post - no screen - sounds like drive is seeking.

Not faulty DIMMs - tried all - two at a time - boots fine

MSI website has some very confusing notes on support for 4GB

Anyone else tried with 4 GB ?

It automatically detected all display and sound and installing drivers from CD did the rest. Its a good motherboard with the good things you need. The bios version is 3.20.

I have a slight problem altough. When I connect my HDTV with DVI->HDMI connector, I don't get any display till windows loads completely (basically when the display driver is initializd). Connecting to a normal LCD monitor with DVI in works fine.
I called MSI techincal support and the answer I got was pretty lame. They said it would display till windows load as it takes a while to display on big screen TV. Asked me to disable quick boot in the bios options.

Has anybody else has experienned any issues like this. As I said, VGA and Compoennts works fine on HDTV is just DVI doesnt show anything till windows loads completely. Not a major issue but might be important. It could be my TV but that works fine with my previous motherboard and Asus 6200TC PIC-E card.

Any suggestion please.

ps: renethx, thanks for replying on avsforum. I changed my email id and I could join the forum

Anyone have an opinion on using component cables vs. a DVI->HDMI cable from this board to a 42" Panasonic Plasma? The TV does not have VGA or DVI inputs.

helloman: if you've discussed DVI/HDMI issues on AVSforum, would you mind giving me a link to the thread? Thanks.

My new board generated a few beeps when turned on (number of beeps = number of bootable devices). Also when done with searching for bootable devices, some hex numbers were dumped on the screen before booting. Are these correct behavior?

While flashing the bios (to 3.2 and to 3.13), I got the message saying "module checksum error" or similar thing around 51% of the progress. Then, I reset the CMOS with the button on the board, and the board does not POST anymore... Any advice? Should I RMA it, or any secret backdoor to boot it up?

Beeps and hex numbers are normal.

Turn off PSU? Or use BIOS recovery feature?

I have a Sonata II case with MSI board and X2 3800 procesor. I notice that the temp of CPU runs to 55-60 degree. I have CPU fan throttled at 55C and had cool and quite enabled.

Is it common? I never hear my Antec power supply starting other fan which it turns on as needed.

Can anybody suggest if this is ok or might be any faulty component?

that's very high, assuming that temp is correct. I have same cpu in an antec superlanboy. temp is ~ 31C idle 45C load.

what kind of cpu cooler are you using?

Does the BIOS recovery feature work with a USB keyboard and a USB floppy drive? It looks my MB does not respond totally... (no sound or beep, just nothing on the screen). I suspect I might pressed the reset switch when the power is on... What happens in that case?

At idle w/ CnQ PCAlert shows ~25C for me. I realize there is a difference of a few degrees b/t BIOS and PCAlert.
