What case do you have this board in? Those seem like high temps. What case is your board in and what other parts (PCI cards, PCIe, IDE devices, SATA devices, etc) do you have installed on the board? Are you using AS5 with the HSF and CPU or did you use the grease that came with CPU HSF? Sounds like bad airflow....
At the moment (I just got 2 SATA II HDs that I haven't installed yet), I have a CHENMING MATX-118 Black with 1 25OGB HD, 2 IDE DVD rom devices, 1gb of RAM, no PCI cards installed. My idle is 31-35C and under load I ran 3dmark2001 for 12 hours and didn't get higher than 45C.

I have a problem: when I hibernate win Win XP, instead of shuting off completely, it goes into some kind of standby mode. The keyboard LED is still on. If I touch the keyboard or move the mouse, which is too easy to do accidentally, the system turns on. On all my Dells, when I hibernate, it really shuts off and I have to hit the power button to turn on, which I much prefer. I've tried both S3/STR and the other mode in BIOS, I forget what's it's called.
I'm on my 2nd board. The new one is v2. But I had the same problem w/ the previous baard.

It's a bit bigger than I expected, but it's what some of us have put our FID's into.
I have an AMD64 3000+ winchester and MSI Neo2 Platinum and a Geforce2 GTS AGP card.
My questions are, "if" I were to migrate to the MSI K8NGM2-FID nVidia 6150 based MB:
1) How much faster would the video card be than the Geforce2 GTS (I think a fair bit). I don't play games often;
2) Could I end up with a cooler, quieter PC that uses less electricity than the optimal I could get with the Neo2 and 3000+ using CrystalCPUID configured for the most underclock etc?
3) Does the lack of CPU voltage control harm any ability to underclock?
Yes, that is right. I want to change my PC such that it is essentially similar in performance potential as it is now, but I want it to use less electricity than it does now, plus I like the idea of the more than adequate onboard video for games, plus DVI and nVidia pure-video for occasional HTPC useage. I mostly use my PC for internet and light graphic and other work, so I want to reduce the power load, but maintain the potential to still do more power intensive work on occasion.

I have a Geforce3 Ti200 before and the 6150 is a bit faster in 3D games. But do NOT expect too much. You can play older games like UT2004 and HL2 at decent res (1024x768) and playable fps (if you turn off A!) But newer games like CoD2 or Quake4 won't be very satisfying. You have to play at 800x600 and minimal detail and still get pretty choppy frame rate.
But, you do get DVI and PureVideo. sweet!
Yes the lack of CPU will hamper your OC. If your CPU has a <10x multiplier, you'll be quite limited since fsb only goes to 250.
Quieter and less power? That's kind of iffy. Quietness depends mostly on your HS sand fans rather than the mobo.
IMO, why not just get a $100 video card that will be a much better gamer and give you equal capacity as a HTPCX card?

this bugs me since the slide up/down thing still has room to vibrate.

Definitely sounds like an airflow issue, as you descibe with your video card and sound card. Is it any cooler if you run your machine with the case off?
I have no PCIe or PCI cards running in my Chemning SFF case. I imagine if I did, I would experience airflow problems like you. I am only stock HSF because the Thermaltake Venus 12 HSF wouldn't fit in my case. I also have left open the option to move this setup into a Full size tower case if I keep adding parts in the Chemning SFF case.

Our systems a very similar, though I'm still building mine. I do think the X-Qpack is a great case for this m/b, but it needs some assistance like more ventilation holes. Other changes (like the Nexus fan and Seasonic PSU) can move it towards a Quiet PC.
In-flow ventilation amounts to ~3sq.in. on each case-side and ~1.5sq.in. in the center below the handle -- totalling ~7.5sq.in.. Between the 120mm case fan and another 120mm in our S12-430, we've about 30sq.in. of outflow. 'Sounds like the in-flow will choke the fans. Somewhere I read of a person reversing the case-fan's airflow so that it pulls air in -- a simple improvement, but maybe not the best.
After I've finished my build and characterized its default temperatures, I'll add some 50mm (=2" diam.= 3sq.in.) holes in the bottom: two or three holes near the bottom's front and one under the cut-out center of the m/b tray. Then re-measure the case and HD temperatures and feel embarassed if there's no improvement... or worse.
The only risk is that increasing ventilation from the bottom will reduce air flow in from the top-left side where it cools the HD's. Well, one temperature probe for case temp and one for HD temp to start with!
Sorry, not trying to hi-jack the thread. Just some comments about an attractive case for the 'FID.
In an X-QPack, video (7800GT with VF700-AlCu) runs extremely hot in tight quarters with the mess of USB cables tied up to the crossbar and the slot below the video card blocked by an Audigy 2 ZS.
105C load (!) which is near the 115C threshold the drivers specify for throttling down, 65C idle.
Looks like I have airflow, cooling issues to take care of with the video card and case.
Otherwise, keeping things on topic...50-55C load CPU seems OK. 35C idle with CnQ on and all fans throttled down to 5-6V.
I need to resolve the video card heat problem though.

Newegg has pictures of the V2 NBP and the V1 FID ... the major differences with the V2 NBP is that the large IC at the end of the PCI-E x16 slot (VIA) is not populated, and the chip inboard of the PCI-E x1 slot (stickered on the FID, script V and no sticker on the NBP) is different. There are various crystals and such that seem to be missing as well. The V1 board is not set up for the V script chip, although the old crystal sockets can be seen on the V2 board.
The VIA chip is of course the 1394 chip, The script V chip is almost certainly the Vitesse LAN chip. The sticker may be the MAC for the LAN, and the chip on the NBP and the FID may be the same, but the picture does not allow enough resolution to be sure.
The heatsink on the chip set chip just below the slots is different.
Other than the silk screen of the version number, the silk screen above the memory slots - K8NGM2 - is N8NGM2-H on the NBP version.
It looks as if you should be able to make a FID on a NBP Motherboard, but of course I can't be sure. Do you have the VIA chip? Is the Vitesse chip stickered? Is the heat sink many finned or few finned?
Double check your top LAN speed - the aspect ratio of the two chips really looks different in the pictures, so the V1 chip may not fit in the V2 board.

Okay, about a month ago I posted about XP not installing on my new layout- specifically with the Seagate SATA drive I got. Drive was confirmed bad, and sent it back. Well, got around to installing the replacement, and once again, it shuts off mid install. Have to unplug power supply to get it back going again. Checked, and drive shows that it is okay still. Figured that I would just use it to install my programs and act as a storage drive, and leave XP on the IDE drive (Would this cause a huge performance loss?). But guess what, I try installing a large program (Morrowind) and it shuts off in the middle of the install. Crap, this is getting annoying!!!!
Everything else seems fine, as the system has run with NO problems until a SATA drive is put it. I am back to guessing that the power supply can't handle the SATA drive? Yes? No? It is a Coolmax AP-450X. Should I run to the nearest Circuit City, buy a top end power supply, and try it out? Figure that I could return it if it still crashes.
Oh, and I checked the drive again online, and Seagates online disk check comes back okay still. Oh the fun of self built machines...

Yeah, I haven't decided. I have no interest in overclocking. I mostly wanted to underclock, but it doesn't look doable with the MSI K8NGM2-FID since it won't undervolt. I just want a PC that has the same performance potential as the one I have now, but that can underclock/undervolt when I am surfing and or just doing desktop publishing. I have thought about just throwing an MSI 6600GT into my PC, but then I may be using more power when not gaming. The only gaming I may do is to play a few widescreen games on my 1280 x 720 projector, and not the latest greatest games either.

I just got in one of the NBP versions of this board, to check out and see if I want to carry it in my store. The NBP board I got does NOT have the pin header for the component/svideo bracket or the backplane bracket itself!! The area on the mobo is there but all the solder holes are filled in, hence no pins. Do not buy the NBP board if you need to use that kind of output! FYI.
I also notice that they have removed the passive heatsink on the integrated video chip, thus adopting a configuration similar the the ASUS A8N-VM CSM.
Not the greatest idea in my opinion, and maybe to save all of 50 cents. I like the passive heatsink on the FID's video chip as a nice insurance policy against overheating.
