beefy you expected too much, should have read the early reviews. it's a good basic card, the best out there, but all the dx9 support doesn't matter if the horsepower isn't there. expect to game at 800x600 w/o any extra effects on. for your 1280x1024 native lcd resolution you need at least 6600gt. with fsaa/af you need 7800gt at that res.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthre...51&page=9&pp=30&highlight=geforce+6150

"I got a response from the "MSI Technical Support Team USA" that you can obtain a SPDIF Adapter for $10.00 including shipping and handling. Shipping is FedEx Ground. The E-mail says to forward it to their ordering team for processing.

It looks like you're suppoosed to fwd the E-mail to VincentL@msicomputer.com.

So, I guess you can E-mail VincentL, tell them that techsupport sent you, and you want to buy the SPDIF bracket for the MSI K8NGM2-FID motherboard for $10. Sounds like a better deal than buying a plastic fan bracket from Antec was... "

here is an MSI page with the part listed as "SPDIF Bracket", note the difference from the "S-Bracket" seen @ censuspc and other e-tailers.

http://www.msicomputer.com.au/html/support/MSI_accessory.htm

I called MSI to get i/o shield and tv-out because i bought a refurb from newegg. instead i ended up getting all the accessories that comes with the retail package including a spdif bracket for $15 shipped.

I just checked at ZipZoonFly and it looks like they now have the retail board at $89.99 shipped. Looks like the drought may have ended!

My order for a FID & 3700+ was accepted at ZZF... + Fedex 2-day delivery. :)

Edit: -note- While AT's Real Time Price Snail indicates $89.99 + $7.95 s/h, there is -no- s/h on my order [okay, $2 for FedEx 2day option]. Perhaps that's because I ordered CPU as well, but it makes the price that much better (as well as no state tax a'la NE).

I'll post an edit here when it's -shipped-. Sounds like there's Hope boards are nearing the shelves....

Edit: 3/22 17:30 Not yet -shipped-, but "packed"; a good sign, unless it's just a way to prevent cancellations. :)

Edit: Shipped! According to the FedEx records, the package was picked up 09:20 yesterday for delivery tomorrow evening. That means ZZF fails to show the transition from Packed to Shipped for 14-to-24 hours as it still showed as "Packed" last midnight!

So, as Matkin earlier noted, the 'FID is back on the shelves again. It isn't just a pre-sale, they're on the delivery trucks to us. G'luck!

The following combinations are supported in DualView mode:

digital monitor (onboard DVI) + analog monitor (onboard VGA)

digital monitor (onboard DVI) + TV (onboard TV out)

Non-Supported Configurations by Onboard Video

analog monitor with a DVI to VGA adapter (onboard DVI) + analog monitor (onboard VGA)

analog monitor (onboard VGA) + TV (onboard TV out)

I haven't been able to find official words on this either through MSI or nVidia. I would assume then that:

analog monitor with a DVI to VGA adapter (onboard DVI)

is the same as analog so that I would not be able to use:

onboard TV out + analog monitor with a DVI to VGA adapter (onboard DVI)

I am upgrading a multi-function PC (kids' PC + HTPC) currently connected simultaneously through VGA to a CRT monitor and TV out to a TV.

Hello again everyone,

I wrote you all earlier about custom made SPDIF IO brackets for your motherboards. I represent Artisan Media Systems, a relatively new company that specializes in the manufacture of custom media center systems. You can check out our

initial website at www.artisanmediasystems.com

While reading through this message board as of late I've still noticed many of you are looking for the SPDIF digital out bracket for these nvidia and ATI micro ATX boards.

Our company utilizes a custom solution in our own boxes so we are very familiar with fabricating these brackets. It seems Asus, MSI, Gigabyte and the rest

have chosen not to import many of the sound brackets to the United States. The brackets usually sell for around 15 dollars. As a courtesy to the user community our company could fabricate these sound brackets and sell them to you. The sound bracket would be a standard PCI bracket that would include an RCA phono output (digital coax SPDIF) connection to the main board via a three pin position latch adapter (compatable with k8NGM2-FID). We would ask 20 dollars plus shipping (paid via paypal). I'm thinking, if more than 30 of you are interested then we would have enough volume to make this a reality. If you are interested please email: soundbracket@artisanmediasystems.com for more information. Again, if we receive more than 30 responses, then we'll email all the interested parties with more details. There is also a possibility that we could do a double SPDIF out solution...

Once again, happy computing to you all!

I can't quite parse what you're writing. I've read that the 'FID lacks a second RAMDAC which is required to drive a second analog (VGA or TV) output. No "DVI-to-VGA" dongle can adapt the 'FID's DVI output to VGA or TV -- the signal ain't thar.
- The DVI port is -only- DVI.
- You can switch between the two others [VGA/TV] as wish, but there will not be a signal on both VGA and TV circuits simultaneously.

If you require TV and monitor at the same time, you've a good reason to get a DVI monitor or a cheap PCI-e card [preferably a recent nVidia one so DualView will also work] for the other display.

Hope I've made the feature clear (and been accurate!).

Adam,
Can your vendor provide any details as to the difference between the K8NGM2-FID and the K8NGM2-NBP? On the surface these two boards seem identical. The MSI product info on NBP is loaded with a bunch of Stable Image marketing fluff.
Thanks.

I note that the NBP description says "DUAL VGA OUTPUT**NO TV-OUT**" so there's another difference. And possibly a big one for HTPC usage, unless you only need DVI output. But does "Dual VGA" mean 2 VGA ports or 2 DVI or 1 VGA + 1 DVI like before? I guess we'll have to wait for some reports to know for sure. Website specs and photos mean little until we see what's actually there.

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8NGM2-NBP&class=mb seems to confirm this; no TVOut is mentioned. Although another webpage I saw at MSI seemed to indicate there WAS TVOut, but I doubt it. Business users rarely have a need for that.

I have to wonder if the hardware is still there for TVOut though. The MSI page says DVI and VGA; 2 x DVI-I would have been nicer if they dropped TVOut. I wonder if there is 1 DAC or 2? If 2, then perhaps the video outputs are 1 DVI-I and one VGA ?

So, to summarize:

FID: 1 firewire, 0 TPM, 1 VGA, 1 DVI-D, I TVout

NBP: 0 firewire, 1 TPM, 1 VGA, 1 DVI-D, 0 TVout ?

FYI, I just received my motherboard (from ewiz.com) and it contained a bracket with a SPDIF connector which can be used for either input or output.

Question: the motherboard has three fan power connectors, CPUFAN, SYSFAN and NBFAN. What does NBFAN stand for? I'm assuming SYSFAN is for a case fan.

Enough with the advertising. If you really read you would know there have been several alternatives at much cheaper prices than what you're offering. Pass.

Thanks OP for all the info and to the contributors of the thread. Now to decide if I should buy now which requires a new cpu and case or wait a few more months till a few of the remaining issues are worked out.

That's great news! Are any of you new buyers getting the SPDIF included or does Matkin have a friend at ewiz :D

I had a question for anyone that went through MSI to get the SPDIF bracket. I sent the email to the address listed in the thread, but so far I havent received a response. How long did it take to get a response for everyone else?

The board I recieved from ZZF today came with a bracket for the SPDIF. Its a Coax connector on the same bracket as the surround sound outputs.

Did your board come with a serial port bracket?

No it did not. It came with just a sound bracket and a TV-out bracket.

MSI seems to have added a SPDIF bracket in place of a serial port bracket in response to users' demand.

Same here. I was a little thrown off by the use of yellow rca (usually video) as opposed to orange (usually spdif). I'll post a 48kb picture if I can figure out how?
