Just updated bios from original 3.2 to 3.5 and now vdimm max is 2.85 down from 3.10 max in bios 3.2
I need the extra voltage for my OCZ VX4000 ram
can anyone with 3.5 bios check their max vdimm for me...maybe i got bad flash because i dont see this change in any of user posts or bios change logs

I have a light "problem" which seems to come from the MSI.
I'm using an iMon Knob RC. The receiver is connected in USB to the MSI.
Under operation, it emits a blue light permanently and flickers for each key hit.
The problem is that, when I shutdown my HTPC completely, the blue light remains lit.

The manufacturer sent me this explanation:
KNOB led lights on when USB 5V is active. When system is off state, generally in most of M/B USB 5V is inactive , but in your system USB 5V is active. Please update your M/B BIOS to the latest version.


Is it relative to a BIOS parameter ?
It does not occur on my other PC.

Does anybody else notice that USB ports remain always juiced, even when the system is in off-state ?
I have no wake-on-xxx event enabled in BIOS.
Does anybody know if MSI plan to correct this in a future BIOS update ?

Any update about USB and PS2 still juiced after shutdown ?

Since BIOS 3.5, LAN is also on. I don't have any wake-on feature enabled in BIOS.
PS2 keyboard NumLock LED always lite on, USB IR receiver too and I can see on my switch that LAN is also activated.

Thanks to avi85 for letting me know right driver version.

I can confirm this, 84.21 version driver does not have this problem. I am relieved, but also unhappy because Nvidia let Driver out without proper testing, esp major issue like this.

Hope they will fix it soon.

BTW, I got a confirmation email about bug in 91.31 driver from Nvidia

I've got a tough one here - needed to do a reinstall WinXP and software due to a separate issue but now my system won't boot. I've built and rebuilt this system a couple of times with no issues. I've been trouble shooting all day and final found the conflict. Here's my config:

AMD dual core opteron 165
2x512 mb ram
80 gb sata drive for operating system
320 gb ide drive for video files
ATI HDTV Wonder
Saphire Theater 550 Pro

The re-install was going fine - was on the last step - installing the HDTV Wonder and it's driver. When a put in the card and turned on the system - nothing. Lights come on but bios won't boot. Thought it was a conflict between the tuners but started unplugging things one at a time. Unplugged the sata cable to the motherboard and the bios booted! Bottom line, system works with one of the tuners in but put them both in, there is a conflict with the sata subsystem.

Any ideas?

Well, I finally went through the installation of Vista RC1. The installation went error free and after about 20-30 minutes, I was at the desktop. First, I went to the device manager to see what still needed drivers. The only things that needed a driver was the remote reciever for my Firefly remote and the AuzenTech XPlosion sound card.

Since I wanted some type of sound, I removed the sound card and replaced it with the Kworld ATSC 110 since I was curious about this also. I was happy to see Vista included drivers for the tuner card and it installed right away. Also, with the onboard sound turned back on, that also was installed with no hiccups.

At this point, I'm thinking..."Great! This is going so much better!!". Then I started installing some apps 🙁

The first app/driver to give me a little grief was the newer Nvidia forceware for RC1. About 80% through the installation, my screen went black and wouldn't come back. I finally hit the reset button and after a restart, I had a screen. The driver seemed to install correctly and the Nvidia control panel was functional. Hmmm...wierd.

A few other apps that wouldn't install or were problematic were Java, Snapstream's software, and Daemon Tools (the latter confused me since v3.33 installed just fine on my other PC with RC1).

There was one thing that I did get excited about. Just for S&G, I thought I'd mess with Windows Media Center. I walked through the initial setup, and guess what...my tuner card worked great in it. I'm not even talking about analog signals. It worked great with ATSC signals and I didn't even have any hardware tuner installed. Only one glitch...I couldn't use SPDIF output for audio. Only would work with analog audio 🙁

Anyways, that was my initial experience. I plan on playing around with it some more and see what else works/doesn't work. Overall, it looks like if you are using this motherboard, it should install Vista just fine and with all drivers at this point.

Guppyman, when you say you've built before with no issues, do you mean with the exact same hardware?

My only thought is if the bios won't boot until you unplug something it looks like a power problem.

I just built my 2nd machine last night based on this board with an Athlon 64 3500.

I am so glad I picked up this board at the end of July before it's been out of stock everywhere.

This forum has been great for setting up this board.

Does anyone have a quick guide to getting either WMV-HD or H264 Hardware-Acceleration to work with the 6150 integrated gfx card?

I have tried the following Forceware 84.12 and 91.47 (playback is choppy with this driver) aswell as installing the Windows Media Player 10 hotfix but CPU usage seems to be around 50% when I play the 'Step into the Liquid' WMV-HD 1080p trailer using Windows Media Player 10/Media Player Classic/Theatertek 2.4.

For those that have hardware acceleration working with WMV-HD or H264, what are your configurations, drivers and software players?

Yup. Exact same hardare. Was working before I took it apart. I took the tuners out because they need to be reinstalled one at a time for a fresh install and now it won't boot with them both installed unless I disconnect the SATA drive.

I have 2 of these mobos up and running. In one mobo, I have a Haupauge 150 and the other I have a Haupauge 350.

I haven't tried both in 1 machine before.

I read somewhere about nforce4 chipset (I know this board is nforce430 which is different) having issues with ATI cards. I had been thinking about getting a Theater Pro 550 as well for my system.

What kind of power supply are you using? For both my MSI k8ngm2-fid machines, I am using an Antec True Power 2.0 480W.

Got it running. I have no true idea why - I hate it when that happens - makes me suspicious that there is a problem lurking that will eventually blow up.

I too have two of these boards one with the problem is using older Seasonic 300 watt power supply that has been solid - I used it with this board for several months with no problem. The other is run on an Antec 350W PS, again no problems. I have another machine with a newer 400W power supply - I swapped it into the problem machine - same problem - power, lights on but no boot. Totally out of ideas, I decided to hit the reset button and the system booted!? Powered completely down, turned the machine back on, no boot. Hit reset, it booted - what the heck? Decided to live with it that way and put the cover back on - and this time it booted right away and has several times since. Go figure.

Well i have a strange problem with my K8NGM@ FID...i am using it with a x2 3800+
Did a clean install of windows....installed all the required drivers....but still everytime i boot i get this...

New hardware found...floppy controller...
New hardware found...scsi controller....

And in the device manager only floppy controller shows up with an exclamation mark...

Also i got a new BIG 7600gs with it wont work on my mobo 🙁 i get no display on the screen 🙁
however my 6200tc works like a charm! could the 16A on the 12v rail of the Antec 350W be a problem??

So you can't use FDD. One possible cause is bad floppy cable. Check connection carefully and/or replace it with another one. How about PATA/SATA drives? Connect the drive to each of the other SATA controllers to see if it works...

i dont have a floppy drive attached!
and also i have 4 sata drives attached...all of which are working fine...

but after every re-boot i get those annoying msg's sayin new hardware found....the floppy n scsi controllers!!

also my brand new 7600gs isnt workin 🙁 i get no display on the monitor!

I checked the manual. It says,

Onboard Floppy Controller
...the system has no floppy drive, select [Disabled] in this field. (p. 3-15)

Follow this instruction and see if it works.

Are you doing any of the RAID stuff on the motherboard? Are you using SATA or IDE drive?

i am using 4*160gb sata and i have disabled raid frm the bios

I don't know why you would get the SCSI message and also no display with the video board.
Can you still get display via the on-board video?. If you can, try the setting in the bios to configure PCI-E video only and not both.

If that does not work. I would try resetting the BIOS (that little button on the motherboard).
Note: any settings in the BIOS will be lost so you have to reconfig again. Hopefully resetting the BIOS will solve both video prob and scsi message.

yup i get display with the onboard video...i also get it with a pcie 6200tc gfx card...
i reflashed the bios to v3.5 and also tried the bios reset....but the best i got was garbage on the screen with 7600gs once....and when i rebooted.....bang no display again 🙂 !

I guess some sort of timing issues. Here's some info taken from the FAQ, i would try experimenting with the CPU to NB and NB to SB frequency. May be that may help.

If you are not interested in overclocking, the default settings will be fine with a few exceptions described below.

1. If you don't use the onboard video, select
* Advanced Chipset Features > OnChip and PCIe VGA selection: [Disable Onchip VGA if have PCIe VGA]
because otherwise part of the physical memory will be locked for the onboard video whether you actually connect a display to it or not.

2. Select
* Advanced Chipset Features > CPU to NB Frequency: [800 MHz] or [1000 MHz]
* Advanced Chipset Features > NB to SB Frequency: [800 MHz] or [1000 MHz]
The performance of the onboard video will degrade significantly if these values are lower than 800 MHz. Note that [400 MHz] is the default value in some versions of BIOS.
