It could be because I saved two in the online shopping cart in morning around 8am. I didn't have time to finish the transaction because I needed to leave for work and wanted to think about it so I saved the cart. At that time orders were showing 9/21.
If you do get an extra one early, you may actually be able to sell it above list price.

Now it turns out it's not real A15 but a proprietary fake version like Krait.

Interesting. Can't wait to see detailed performance information. With an A15 design, the 2x performance seemed like a given, but with this custom design I'm a little more skeptical. In the iPad 3 GPU comparison they just picked one benchmark that was exceptionally good to make their performance claim.

It also has some big implications moving forward. Apple's hardware is going to get even more unique and customized, which will help them differentiate. On the other hand it opens up the possibility of running into something like the old Pentium bug where things weren't entirely right with the chip.

I wouldn't call it fake. That's like saying AMD CPUs are fake Intel CPUs.

Just a different architecture! I'm actually pretty excited for somebody to get under the hood and start kicking things :D

Even if the new design is similar to A9 they could get close to 2x the performance vs A5 just through clock speed increases so I think that number is somewhat believable. However 2x isn't a groundbreaking jump either considering that still puts it well behind Krait.

Krait is hardly a slouch. Still, S4 Pro/Adreno 320, OMAP5/Rogue, and Exynos 5250/Mali will eat it for breakfast.

Edit - Heck, a dual core S4 running at 2Ghz would curb stomp it too.

Even the 1.5ghz Krait dual core should beat A6, after all a 1.6ghz A9 dual core is roughly twice as fast as A5 and Krait is competitive with Tegra 3 quads clocked close to that.

I'm not even sure if they need to differentiate, as very few smartphones buyers care too much about the specifics of the silicon within.

This is a technical solution to a purely technical, not marketing, problem. Apple simply wants a higher performance to power consumption ratio.

Wow. That's major difference and makes better sense now. I was wondering how Apple pulled off A15 this early when TI and Samsung couldn't yet. I was thinking maybe Apple was just better than everyone else and had the money to make the impossible happen. Anand really had me believing the A15 and that's partially the reason I ordered the iPhone 5. I'm sure the new custom hybrid Apple chip is great like Krait but it's no A15. This takes lot of the hardware luster off of iPhone 5.

Lol, the iPhone 4S already felt faster than my HTC One X, now that the iPhone 5 is twice as fast as the 4S the difference is going to be even larger.

I hear good things about JB but I probably will not see JB running until late next year.

so now it's confirmed the iPhone has 1GB of RAM. whoever was complaining that 512mb was unacceptable for a smartphone today (despite the iPhone 4S being a speedyass phone), can now rest comfortably.

I'm not surprised to hear its a custom chip. I really hadn't heard anyone else say it was definitely A15 and so I was still kind of skeptical. I'm also kind of skeptical of a SGX543MP4. That just seems like too much space to waste and totally unneeded for the iPhone. I like the compormise of a MP3 with higher clocks.

Can't wait to see this thing's X-ray.

What am I wondering about is the noise cancellation circuitry. Apple used Audience in the 4 and 4S and they've already come forward and said they're not in the 5. I'm wondering if Apple is handling it all in software now. As for the Siri aspect, I would presume embedding a microphone in the earpiece would solve the "hold the phone at arms length" issue.

All in all, I still can't wait for this thing to arrive. Putting my GNex on Craigslist tomorrow so that I can hopefully get it out of here by Friday.

Edit: What I'm not excited for is keeping AT&T. I won't get LTE in my hometown for another couple of years AT LEAST, but HSPA+ isn't bad here. Looking forward to those LTE speeds in Charlotte though. Had thought long and hard about switching to Sprint, but the simultaneous voice/data thing killed it for me.

It went so much that I want to talk and surf at the same time, but id really like for my data connection to not be interrupted by a phone call I'm likely not going to answer.

I thought they said that Apple isn't using the latest Audience technology?

It's interesting on many levels to see a company as large as Samsung move so quickly to hit Apple on the iPhone 5:

Whether or not you like the ad (which hit papers today), it's definitely causing some controversy, which is probably the main reason why Samsung released the ad. There's no such thing as bad publicity.

It's a good ad, I have to admit that I laughed when I saw it. Some of the tweaks floating around are pretty funny as well.

As much as I like the SGS3 (and I wouldn't trade mine for an iP 5 unless I was selling the iP and then buying a better Android phone) I don't even use half the crap at the bottom of the list. 'Smart Stay'? What the hell is that? Sounds like I put phone down and go "Stay! Stay!" and it stays where I put it. (Exceptions: removable battery which I hope to never have a phone without, and NFC.) Picture in picture is one of those kind-of-cool things you'll look at once or twice and go, "Huh. Kinda neat." Then never use ever again.

That's what I thought too but the statement from Audience was vague enough it's hard to be sure.

It was my understanding they were totally out based on the news reports.

Apparently, the A6 is (possibly) quite speedy.

Apple A6 coming in at 1601.
Top Android device is Nexus 7 @ 1591.
Closest phone looks like the international S3 @ 1560.
Current top Snapdragon S4 (TMo OneS) coming in at 1258.

I don't think the S4 DC Pro can take it down. Probably the quad though. This processor should be more than good enough for the next two years.

Smart stay is kind of cool. It's that thing where the front camera tells if you're looking at the device and prevents it from going to sleep.

If the 1600 score is true, then this puts the iPhone 5 above even the quad core Android devices. I think people get too hung up on "moar cores!". Overall people should care about real world performance.

Win or lose in benchmarks, the iPhone 5 will be speedy in real world use.

That's an average score for the international GS3. If you turn off power-saving and a few other things, you can get it up to 1750 or so.

A6 is definitely fast.
