This variation in screen quality is also there in the MacBook line, too. It's generally due to that they have multiple different vendors, and different vendors don't test the screens the same way, so there should be variations in colors.

Too bad it's still Samsung vs LG this year. If Apple went Samsung exclusively, we would have all gotten really good screens.

I think the problem is the manufacturers these days use cheap vendors to save money.... same goes for the houses too. Houses nowdays are built like garbage.

I too heard bad things about LG.... I'm boycotting anyting from LG from now on. LG stands for "Low Grade" anyway eheheehehe 😀

Well, in any case, you can always stand at the Apple Store and keep doing an exchange until you get the screen you want.

Myself, I'll just enjoy this brand new toy and not have to worry about other issues. It's a slight difference anyway. Nothing to cry about.

That said, I'm enjoying reading on this device very much. I have loaded it up with all of my high res PDFs now, altogether that accounts for 1GB per 10 books, but it's totally worth it.

I mean, besides hating going to the store, there are some things you cannot test. Like i couldnt test backlight bleed there, which could (will?) very realistically be a problem. I probably wouldn't even notice what i did here there, since everything is so brightly lit.

I know its minor, but i feel like i got shafted since theres one literally right next to it that seems great. She said I could have hers but thats still not fair...plus hers has some minor backlight bleed i dont really like. 😛

lol, this iPad is for sure going back. Theres actual bright light coming through the top of the screen. It's even there with the backlight at zero.

Pics showing the awful red tint, the (minor, rather good actually) backlight bleed, and this mystery problem of the LEDs actually showing:

I dont see any bleeding; but when i tilt it (while looking at a full screen black pic), i notice red reflection/coloring..doesnt seem too bad

The 3 I bought are fine. The one that i thought was bad actually wasn't. The camera captures more than the eye. Any way to tell Samsung vs lg?

Still haven't done the light-leak test but another question ...

My first iPad, what are the expected re-charge times from 0-10% to full via power source?

8 hours or so. I usually run mine down to the mid teens before bed and it is fully charged when I wake up.

The new iPad seems to take a while to charge. In relation to iPhones, but that's expected. In relation to other iPads, I dunno.

Yeah I know. Don't know if they made the charger supply more juice or whatever though, so I'm not sure how much longer (if at all) it takes than the iPad 2...or if that even makes sense.

jesus christ

we sold the ipad on last week of feb

GF opened the iPad yesterday, logged in with iCloud, and within 5 minutes was exactly back to where she started from (apps, settings, even Safari tabs). All she had to do was enter in 3 logins: Apple ID, iCloud ID, and gmail password.

charging takes FOR EVER.

Massive, massive upgrade from the iPad 1.

I think im gonna wait a week a just return mine. I'm not sure how much of a place it has in my daily routine, but mostly I just don't feel like continually exchanging it until I get one that's of decent quality. I have such bad luck with these things.

kazaam, now that I can see your pics, oh man. That's f#@&'ed up! That white light leak underneath the bezel on one side is definitely wrong... 100% defect. Even if you didn't have that, it's still defect cause you have red tints and uneven whites and some backlight bleeds. I feel your pain. 🙁

Check this one out.. one of the guys from macforum posted his ipad 3.

It's got a little bit of EVERYTHING... You name it.. it's got red smudge, blue smudge, yella smudges and flashlights (light leak on left side). Man, this is fully loaded!!! D:

Ouch at those back light bleed defects. Is there a way to tell which screen a specific Ipad is manufactured from Samsung, LG or Sharp? :\

How is the viewing angle on this device? Is it 180 degree fully viewable without pics get washed out? The reason I am asking is that all LCD's I have seen have pictures washed out if you look at them at any angle other than looking at it perfectly straight. Some are terrible, to the point where the picture turns "black" so you can't see anything at all, while others are not as bad. Well, as you know, plasma has full viewing angle, with virtually zero loss in picture quality. We also have Samsung's Super AMOLED Plus tech that is surprisingly good in this regard. I watched the video of it where the guy holds it and tilt it to like almost 160 degree angle all directions and I could not see any degrade in PQ. How is the iPad 3 in this regard?

^ I remember seeing how my mom's iPhone 4S screen looked and I was impressed with the viewing angle, nothing like the iPod Touch 4 I have, no comparison. So I suppose the iPad 3 is similar to the iPhone 4S then in viewing angle quallity. Good.

runawayprisoner, have you tried Android operating system on devices like Galaxy tab? I know nothing about those operating systems.. how did you like it? Is the Mac iOS better in your opinion?
