Have one on loan from work this weekend for a test run.

I notice the extra size and weight in my hand, being used to an iPad 2. It's not bad. If I had gone from an iPad 1 straight to a 3, I wouldn't be any wiser, but going straight from a 2 to 3, you do notice.

Screen is gorgeous. I have very minimal light bleed on this one. I only really notice at 100% brightness in a dark room against a black background anyways, and I usually keep my brightness between 0-25 on the slider unless there's a specific reason I have to turn it up (sunlight, usually).

I don't WANT to say this, since it's the same processing core as the 2, but it feels way snappier than an iPad 2. I guess the extra RAM is making the difference, but I wouldn't think it was making that much of a difference in my head. But it's there. Definitely snappier and faster than last year.

The buttons feel more pronounced and accesible than on the iPad 2. Maybe it's the way the 3 is sloped.

Played with the camera for only a few moments. Definite upgrade but anyone can realize that.

Slow to charge, definitely. Does get warm on the back. I never noticed any kind of warmth on the 2 and I can't tell if I noticed it organically or if I'm looking for it now.

Verizon LTE in Rock Hill. Man, it varies so wildly. I can get 45Mbps on the main drag in town then less than 10Mbps a couple hundred yards off of it. It's just do fluctuating that I don't think you can really give it a reliable 'speed'. It's fast and it works and that's good enough for me.

Think I'm going to go with a wifi version. Almost certainly switching to Sprint this year and for $20/mo I can add a 5GB hotspot option to the unlimited plan. Might knock myself up from unlimited to the $50/5GB w/tethering on AT&T in the meantime.

So does the ios version of chrono trigger properly work on this new ipad or does it have issues like ive seen with other games?

Pics showing the awful red tint, the (minor, rather good actually) backlight bleed, and this mystery problem of the LEDs actually showing:

I'm just gonna go to the apple store. I honestly can't get a defect free apple product. arghhhhhhh

Well, I returned it again this morning and got another one (fourth one). That one had dust stuck under the screen too so I then returned it before work. Got a another one (the fifth one) and the screen itself is perfect (no dead or stuck pixels, no dust stuck underneath the glass), HOWEVER I do have one LED showing at the bottom of the screen exactly like this shown above:

Mine is not to that extent and is on the bottom edge of the screen:

Getting tired of this panel lotto and I don't know if I want to keep this, but it's taken me five tries to get a unit with a perfect screen...

Ok, spent all day Saturday trying to get a "good" one. Went to two different Apple stores and purchased then returned at least seven 64GB white Verizon models. Every single one of them had what's pictured above in kazaam's post (most of them worse).

I looked at every iPad 3 on display in these stores and none of the display models had this problem.

I would suggest leaving bad reviews for those apps. It'll force developers to write better apps. Even if they're free.

I dont remember all of them since I just deleted them after not getting passed the menu, but one was an oregon trail game.

Oregon Settler. Shows up in the bottom 1/4 of the screen and just mirrors in smaller segments across the bottom. The UI actually works in the right spot. I think this is a coding issue on Gamelofts part.

I finally did some really deep thinking and returned mine, with quite the heavy heart.

I liked the screen, I liked the speed, and the weight didn't bother me much.

I could even start to accept the charge time (which is pretty ridiculous, by the way).

But I couldn't tolerate the lack of contents. Not only is there nothing that really maxes out the screen (except for 2-3 games and photos, oh, and texts, too), apps are getting updated too slow, and I'm an impatient freak. It also doesn't help that the internet is also not ready for this kind of screen density.

It felt more like a developer-preview rather than an actual device that I could use. For the most part, it felt like an iPad 2 with sharper texts.

Ah well, perhaps next year when apps and websites have caught up.

Congrats my man! for returning the ipad. [pats you on the back] 🙂

So we have another user returning the product. Told ya guys that extra display pixels may not get put to full use. 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024 is sufficient!

Still kinda shocking that you returned the golden display.. as you got one of the few best ones that may exist out there. If you turned around and sell it to someone wanting defect-free display you can charge more than the original purchase price! You would be making profit.

I still did smart by not even purchasing the new iPad. This saved my time and gas money. Tamn I'm smart!😎

I'm gonna save money and pick up an Audioengine S8 instead! Now that's a smart buy. Unfortunately I can't afford to get an AVI ADM 9T Sub ($~2000). 🙁 Unless you guys wanna donate $10 per person. 200 people that's enough to cover.

Oh sorry I'm really done posting now. I know I said I'm done with the thread but I couldn't help myself.. 😳 I'm really gone now bye.

I actually got two iPad 3 that had very minimal screen problems. The other was a gift to mom. But that one is going back, too, because mom also doesn't like how long it takes to charge.

Ultimately, I loved the device. I just couldn't stomach the charge time and the fact that I have to wait for a few more months to get contents that would utilize it somewhat.

In fact, if I have to do so, I might well hold out until the iPad 4 comes, which is almost guaranteed to have a better SoC with better efficiency, and hopefully they've worked out power consumption of the screen.

7-hour charge for 8-hour use really really get me. I guess I'm spoiled, but seriously, my MBP charges to full in 2-3 hours and it lasts 8 hours easily.

We'll see if that benchmark changes if/when the MBP/MBA get the Retina display as well. That'll be on a bigger screen also (11,13,15,17).

Are you guys charging the thing through your USB connected to the computer? You need to plug it straight into a wall outlet, USB through computers does not give enough juice to charge a device properly. It took me about 1.5 hours to charge from 30% to 100%.

But honestly, is that even a big deal. I plug mine in when I go to bed at night, wake up in the morning, 100% to be used for the rest of the day.

mine takes 8 hours to charge and it lasts for 9-10 with heavy gaming. I mean heavy gaming, 2048x1536 non stop playing Galaxy on fire 2 HD.

Updated too slow? I guess you are kinda impatient. You won't find another platform that updates as quickly as iOS. I find apps being updated to retina on a daily basis.

Its my first time owning a tablet, but its the best tablet I've ever used. IMO the retina screen makes a world of a difference in using a tablet, especially when reading articles/magazines/books etc.

Tried the third Apple store in my city today. Went through another three of the 64GB white Verizon model. All three had this defect AND at least two dead / stuck pixels.

Where the hell is Apple's quality control?

That's what I thought too when I was getting the refund for that last iPad...

Pardon the obvious, but could this be limited to the 64gb 3g iPad? Or are you only getting this in a limited test situation (srsly, how do you even get a full black screen to test?)?

I uploaded a 2048x1536 black image and a white one (created in Paint.net) on imageshack. After buying the iPad, I'd open it before leaving the store, get on imageshack, download both images and view them full screen on the iPad.
