Ok, so I finally played with an iPad today. I spent about 5 minutes with one at Best Buy so I thought I'd share my initial impressions.
Like most people say, it's heavier than I thought it would be, and it's not that ergonomical. That said, it felt substantial in my hands. It's definitely well built like most Apple products.
It's fast, vary responsive. Significantly speedier than my iPhone 3G, which I expected. Screen looks fantastic. The 1024x768 resolution is perfect for the device. Screen rotations and transitions are smooth as ice.
Apps look great on it. You could actually use it to read an eBook. Pages look nice. I could actually do some writing on it. The touch keyboard still leaves a lot to be desired though. I'd definitely buy the keyboard peripheral if you want to do any serious typing on it.
All in all, I actually liked it a lot. Would I buy one? Probably not. It still feels a little expensive for what it is. CAD$559 is a lot of money, especially for only 16gb of storage. 32gb would be more like it. I do think it's ideal for people who don't need computers, which is a lot more than you'd think. It could definitely replace a laptop. However, Adobe Flash support is the killer app for me.
I'm going to hold out on the tablet craze until the Android and Windows Phone 7 models start coming out. Hopefully someone will come out with one that's as fast and responsive that has Flash support.
