The run above was with OP's setting but had Volumetric Light Density at medium (he made no mention of it in his post). I re-ran the benchmark by switching it to max and got the following results:

Run 1:
Frames :4264
Time (ms) :49110
Min: 42
Max: 189
Avg: 86.825

Run 2:
Frames: 6376
Time (ms): 48270
Min: 54
Max: 216
Avg: 132.09

Obviously you can tell there's a big variance between the two runs even though I followed the exact route both times. There needs to be a better way to do it as well as more specific instructions on what settings should be used.

I meant to put whatever is not explicitly stated to medium, so light quility should be max, but volumetric light density is medium. I'm also being ever more suspisious that this thing uses up over a gig of ram, since the people with 2 gigs seem to be consistently getting higher min fps.

Just wondering, how are the temps like on your GTX with the KO Bios? It's clocked higher so I would assume it would run hotter, but how much hotter? Are you still using stock cooling?

Anyone have any idea when this game will be made available?

I'm using watercooling so it doesn't go above 45-46C during load.

Well in that case my first run is valid where I got a min fps of 72 and an avg of 136.

Well, I guess my 5800U sucks... :D 13.97 with the OP revised settings. PC is a P4 Prescott 3.2 @ 3.3.

And here I was looking at a 6800GT just yesterday.

Get a 6800gt, and then keep the 5800u as a specimen of the most infamous card in history. Maybe it'll be worth something to somebody on ebay...

I tried something a little different here. I enabled 4xAA in the nvidia control panel and turned off AA in the game options. Then I only used the 8X AF in the game options and left AF off in the Nvidia control panel. My score improved.

Here are my originals:

P4 3.0E stock (definately holding me back)
ASUS P4P800
1GB DDR DC
BFG 6800GT stock

FRAPS:
2005-08-08 09:42:55 - FEARSPDemo
Frames: 2952 - Time: 66021ms
Avg: 44.713
Min: 19
Max: 142

Second Run
2005-08-08 10:18:19 - FEARSPDemo
Frames: 3024 - Time: 66300ms
Avg: 45.610
Min: 21
Max: 141

And here is with 4xAA in NVCP & 8XAF in game. All other options are the same as munky's original specifications as were my previous scores.

2005-08-10 23:39:20 - FEARSPDemo
Frames: 2756 - Time: 51312ms
Avg: 53.710
Min: 26
Max: 150

Is this using the first settings or the second settings? I have soft shadows on in the revised settings, and if you read the 'readme' in the installation directory, it says:

* The Soft Shadows option will not work if Full-Screen Anti-Aliasing (FSAA)
in enabled through the Windows Control panel. If you want to play with
both Soft Shadows and FSAA enabled, please use the in-game FSAA Controls.

That might explain the speed increase.

Nah, I might hang it on the wall though. Its actually been a pretty good card. I pre-ordered it, so I've had it since day one. I think about 3.5 years ago. Maybe 2.5. I dunno. I'd buya 7800 GTX, but they are PCI-E only. I';m not going to let go of this 3.2. quite yet. :D

Hmmm... you know what that means. I'm gonna have to try the same thing with my card and see what happens.

7800GTx is a must for this game if you want all the eye candy. I ran it at 1920x1200 on my dell 2405 24" LCD. I must say it is unbelievable. I found myself leaning and ducking in my chair trying to peak around corners.

Also, the beginning of the game is not as taxing as toward the end of the level. I get very good framerates in teh segment mentioned above. 40-60. But Near the scene where the helicopter comes in I drop as low as 15 and barely stays near 30 until the sequence is over.

I would really like to see what a 7800 GTx SLI SLI rig could do with this game because it is massively shader intensive.

Download FRAPS that's the easiest way. FRAPS also works in just about every game.

Hi all. Mine at the prescribed settings:
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
2305, 41393, 30, 96, 55.686

Here it is at 1600x1200, everything max, except particle bounce and volumetric lighting at medium and soft shadows off:
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
1776, 51016, 5, 56, 34.813

I hope the final game is a little more optimized for higher rez and detail

Well, I got around to benching according to the post...

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
3889, 54382, 3, 200, 71.513

Not too shabby at 71fps, but I could never play this game at those settings. What's the point of all the new technology and high speed gear if the quality is old-school? Clearly this game does demand upgrades.

Let's see...

Reason for a new Radeon 9200: SOF2 Double Helix
Reason for a new Radeon 9700: Battlefield 1942
Reason for a new Radeon X850XT: Far Cry
Reason for a new Radeon X1800XT?: Hmm, it's probably going to be FEAR!
