Whats the difference between the DVD version and the CD version?

Aside from making it easier to install I dont think there was a difference in the two products.
The DVD version was a director's cut/edition, which has some extra features included.

Are they useful extra features because the DVD price might be a little steep. The CD price looks like a good price.

Im on a samsun 710T and I want my 1280x1024 !

I get up to 1280x960 for choices on my syncmaster 730b. But of course w/ my hardware I can't really play above 1024x768 anyways.

So why the hell is the dvd version more expensive?

I got it last night and played for a few hours. I think it's pretty good so far. The graphics are nice but there are some pauses when I go into a room for the first time. I'd like to see some benchmarks to see how well other systems are doing with the game. I let the game pick the appropriate settings for my PC.

Set the texture quality to medium and those pauses will stop.

I did some extensive benchmarking this evening with the MP demo(yeah, I know) and found out what was killing my performance....AA. That was about the ONLY thing that brought my FPS to unnacceptable levels. I had it benched at 12x9, 11x7 with Volumetric lights on with nearly everything else at the highest setting, and 4x AF on. My FPS NEVER dipped below 32 at the highest settings I chose. 32 was the minimum with the bulk of the frames(around 80%) above 40. Now, if I tuned down everything, and turned on 2x aa by itself my frames would spend the majority of its time in the teens.

I was surprised at this because I've never had this problem in other recent games. On my initial benches when I had first gotten the demo I always had 2x aa on and lagged constantly. Now that I've messed with it it actually looks pretty good at 12x9(I'm going to try 12x10 tomorrow when I have more time) with everything, but aa cranked.

Am I imagining this, or does the AA in FEAR pack more of a punch in performance than in most games?

I paid $39.84 out the door at fallmart cd version.

Buy Fallmart are you refering to Crapmart (Walmart) or PoorMart (KMart). If walmart I am surprised they even carry cosidering they edit almost all CDs. The amount of times the soldiers say Fvck is pretty big and the blood and gore is pretty high up there. Hell At 23 and Balding I was surprised when BB asked me for my Idea when I handed the teller the game.

I thought I heard somewhere that FEAR was supposed to be optimized for dual core.
It only touches 1 core on my system. The weird part is, it uses core 1 not 0. I have only played for an hour or so, but in that time task manager only reported an occasional 10% load on core 0.
Did I read wrong? or was the idea dropped?
I hope dual core support isn't a patch for later. I don't know much about coding games, but I imagine that would have to be a large file.

Wow.. this has been asked about a thousand times, and the answer could be found with some simple reading.

The DVD version has bonus features.

Bought the game yesterday, installed it and ran into an interesting problem - the game literally turns my computer off. I start up the game and within a minute or so of changing settings my computer will turn itself off...I don't even make it into the actual game. It did this a couple of times, I then started up the game and quickly started the single player scenario and it worked fine, made into the actual game and I played around for about 5-10 minutes. I then exited back out to the menu and started setting my controls and it turned off again. Haven't tried reinstalling it yet, something I'll do tonight.

Got bored of playing around with it and then started up CS:S and played a 3 hour session without a hitch.
Cute

heat issue ? I've had my pc turned off because my CPU was getting too hot... I had terrible cooling but put another 8mm fan pretty much blowing just outside the CPU fan/heatsink and my temps dropped significantly - no more shutdowns.

The first time it happened I opened my case up to make sure all the fans were operational, and they were. My system is prime stable for over 48+ hours in it's current state so I was a little confused. The biggest thing would be that all my other games - CS:S/Doom3/Far Cry/UT 2004 - work perfect and I tried every single one of them out yesterday. Hopefully, a reinstall fixes the problem since apparently I can play CS:S at 12x10 with everything on high for 3 hours yet FEAR's menus are so intensive that my computer shuts down from over excursion.

I know it's been answered somewhere but I cannot figure out how to change the resolution to 12 x 10. I edited the configuration file but am lost from there.

This game sick. DOOM3 never had me creeped out or had the hairs on my neck stand up like this game does.

I did a search, but didn't see that there was a new Patch, ver.1.02 When I put the DVD in today, and hit single player, I was asked if I wanted the new version, and of course took it. Seems good so far.

I was pissed about not getting the DVD version. I beat it the first weekend and uninstalled it.
I'll probably never touch it again. It was nice, and better than Doom3, but I dont see anything that will make me go back to it.
I'd rather run through Far Cry again.

I may get Q4 if I see enough people like it.

a little bit of topic, but does anyone know about the japanese insert song in interval 09 - lapdog? you'll hear it from a radio in a secret room where you can go after turning off the gas valve. it's kinda nice song 🙂
