Well, being the procrastinator that I am, I called my local EB late today to see if I could still preorder a DVD edition so I wouldn't be left in the cold tomorrow with a crappy CD version. Bad news? They couldn't take any more preorders because the game has already shipped. Good news? The guy working agreed to hold me back a DVD copy for tomorrow on my word alone. I headed over after work, gave him my business card, and he has my copy set back, waiting on me tomorrow. I'm not sure how long they've had their copies, but apparently they were stashed in the back. He went back, grabbed a DVD copy, and brought it up front to mark it.

I know some of you out there has already gotten their copy due to some major retail chains putting it on the shelves as soon as they got it **cough**Best Buy**cough**. Well, this is the thread to discuss the game and tell us what you think of it. Please, no spoilers, so we don't ruin the game for anyone.

I'm hoping F.E.A.R. will be a single player classic that will get a couple of runs out of me. I guess we'll see in the coming weeks.

EDIT: Figured I'd update with the second patch being released, seeing as to how this thread has come back up for air.

Having said that, I am looking forward to it more than anything ID has put out recently. They ticked me off with Doom3 and I'll sit out Quake 4 until it hits the bargain bin.
 
I ordered mine from gamestop.com, I hope they're like most companies and ship early enough for me to get it on release day 🙂. I also got overnight shipping too, so it shouldn't be THAT hard to get it to me tomorrow right? I even bought a new logitech G5 for the occasion 🙂.
 
I picked up my copy today... played it for a bit this afternoon, but gonna start in an hr or so... i love playing scary games late at night with all the lights off.
 
I pre ordered it, but I did slow shipping cause im cheap. Hopfully I will get to play this weekend though. The demo was good fun.
 
I got it last night and played for a few hours. I think it's pretty good so far. The graphics are nice but there are some pauses when I go into a room for the first time. I'd like to see some benchmarks to see how well other systems are doing with the game. I let the game pick the appropriate settings for my PC.
 
I plan to buy from BB today. Can I use my $12 BB bucks towards this?? (each $1)

I loved the demos and I still have to beat SS2 quick!!!
 
I got a few days before my 7800 GTX comes, so I'm holding off on FEAR, not too much interest in the others coming out today. But what I am really looking forward to is COD2. I'd like to see some good reviews from actual gamers before plopping down $50 for FEAR, however I will pick up COD2 no matter what.
 
Anybody else missing a jewl case or something for the director's edition? I feel a little cheated that all I got was the 1 disc in a sleeve 🙁.
 
Well.. my copy from EBGames shipped yesterday with 2 day.. but i got a while to wait anyways. I got some new parts on the way.

But i hope you're joking about SWAT4. I hated that game. So unrealisticly awful. And, worst AI i've ever witnessed in my life. Ragdoll was a joke.

Back to FEAR though.. at least this thread isnt full of people bashing the game like every other forum. Makes me wish there was a device to strangle someone over the internet.

The Multiplayer is good for an FPS, and the single player storyline is fresh. It doesnt directly involve Demons taking over the world, or aliens, so thats a plus.

First game ever to incorporate SlowMo into MP.

Max Payne never went MP because they were afraid bullet-time wouldnt work, so kudos to the dev's of FEAR.

Many games are in a sleeve package. I'm pretty impressed with all the extras you get in the DE, and it only costs you 5 bucks extra. At least its not HL2, and they're doubling the price of the game.

IMO, i could care less what the game came in, i put all the cd's into my own case sleeves. I have one 320 cd case filled up and am close to filling a 2nd.. I buy too many games 🙁 Most i dont even finish.
 
I didnt say it was SWAT 4, just that I feel similar instances. Some of the visuals and lighting, some of the objects and sounds. I played through SWAT 4 just prior to FEAR so maybe that has something to do with it😉
 
Got mine at GameStop... picked up FEAR along with it. Didn't even think to ask for DVD version so I have 9 total CDs on my desk, lol. Anyhow, Q4 MP is fun. Back to fragging.
 
I've played for another 1 1/2 and I really like the game. So far today, I've had no pauses or hiccups. It's been pretty smooth. Not sure how far I am, just started the Bad Water level.
 
So I preordered the game right, but during multiplayer I try to select one of those bonus skins and it says "for preordered games only" or something like that. Am I missing something? It doesn't really matter, but I'm wondering what's up.

The game is really fun, and creepy. Not doom3 shock, but honest to goodness creepiness. I feel the weapons are nicely balanced for single player so far. Everything comes in handy and it was hard to get rid of my dual pistols but I finally did 🙂.
