I'm still not sure why he wanted to run in the first place

For the status. He derives pleasure from status, in revealing it, and reminding other people of his status, and reminding other people of their lesser status / inferiority. He derives pleasure from status as its own thing, not as a means to an end. (For example some people like power not for its own sake, but because power allows you to do things you want to do such as change the world, etc)

To him being president is not about governing it is about the status, and the only more high amount of status type of thing is being a president that changed the world instead of a borrowing president like Bush 41 who merely governed and was a placeholder. Aka FDR has more status in peoples minds than Jimmy Carter for FDR is a president that changed the world.

Another way of putting this is not staus, but instead "keeping score." Donald Trump has been obsessed with keeping score every since his early twenties and probably before that.

My theory is simple: Trump is a megalomaniac in the classic sense of the term.

Yeah more or less

Here is a juicy bit of Irony. Who here is familiar with the movie Citizen Kane? According to Donald Trump it is his favorite movie. Citizen Kane is a movie that follows the life of a narcissist and is largely based off of william randolph hearst. But the whole movie is about how when CItizen Kane dies, he dies unhappy and the movie actually starts at the end of the movie when an outsider, is trying to track down the meaning of the word "rosebud" which was Citizen Kane's dying word.

It is so ironic that Donald Trump does not get the moral the main theme of his favorite movie.

True story: "rosebud" is actually the nickname That WR Hearst and his mistress gave to her clitoris. Being part of the crowd in Hollywood, Welles had deep knowledge of these type of inside nuggets of info. Aside from the general "slander" that Hearst perceived from the overall subject of the film. this is actually one of the primary plot elements that infuriated Hearst and informed his crusade to try and ban the film and sue Welles into the grave.

Trump doesn't sweat.

He's one of the shrewdest business people alive. The guy doesn't have a conscience. In his mind what took place is history. It's over. If Hillary lets her guard down Trump is going to jump all over her and will make her look like a clown. You people still underestimate this man. Although highly unlikely he could still be POTUS.

Please. Trump is an astounding bullshit artist, no doubt, but I think Hillary has his number. She knows how to get to him, how to play him. There are a lot of different ways to say it. OTOH, Trump is completely clueless about that & about how to get to her. She's extremely cool under fire, well prepared & possessed of very strong self control. He's not in the slightest. If anybody loses it, it won't be Hillary.

People are freaking nut jobs. It's not over yet. We need to suffer first so we understand why we need Trump:

"Americans have become to complacent and wrapped up with the abundance of blessings and prosperity over the last 60 or so years...perhaps if the good Lord removed some of that, then people may begin to wake up and begin to hold our leadership accountable....its not going to set in until the people as a whole begin to suffer a little or a lot........... to be fair, Mai is a guy who puts a lot of stock in motivational speaker hucksters and "Buy my secret plan for success!" pyramid schemes and scammers. He's the perfect target for a sucker-magnet like Trump.

I wonder if Trump is going into this debate knowing he has lost and plans to bomb Hillary and Bill as hard as he can.

Trump trashed those Clinton accusers back in the day:
http://www.cnn.com/2016/10/09/politics/trump-clinton-sex-then-vs-now/index.html
Speaking with Wolf Blitzer in November 1999 in video reviewed by CNN's KFile, Trump said Hillary Clinton had been through more public controversy than any women should have to bear.
"I think she's gone through terrible times," Trump told Blitzer in the interview. "I think she's been through more than any woman should have to bear — everything public. I mean, women go through this on a private basis and can't take it, she's on the front page of every newspaper every week with what went on in Washington."
A month before, in an interview with CNBC, Trump expressed a similar sentiment about Hillary Clinton and blasted the independent investigator Ken Starr as "a total wacko."
"I think she's a very, very good person," Trump said of Clinton. "I think she's had a very tough life the last few years. I mean, what could be tougher than that? I mean, can you imagine those evenings when he's just being lambasted by this crazy Ken Starr, who is a total wacko? There's the guy. I mean, he is totally off his rocker. And can you imagine being lambasted like that all day and then saying, 'Darling, what are we having for dinner?' It's gotta be pretty tough."

Trump also repeatedly dismissed and at times mocked Bill Clinton's accusers.
In a 2008 interview with CNN, Trump called the Lewinsky scandal "totally unimportant" and said it was "nonsense" that Republicans tried to impeach him.

In another interview, with CNBC in 1998 and first unearthed by the Washington Post, Trump called Clinton accuser Paula Jones "a loser." In August 1998, Trump again dismissed Jones, and said Bill Clinton was actually the victim.
"I don't necessarily agree with his victims," Trump said to Fox News' Neil Cavuto in a clipuncovered earlier in the year by the "Daily Beast." "His victims are terrible. He is, he is really a victim himself.
But he put himself in that position."
"These people are just, I don't know, where he met them - where he found them," Trump continued. "But the whole group — it's truly an unattractive cast of characters. Linda Tripp, Lucianne Goldberg, I mean, this woman, I watch her on television. She is so bad. The whole group, Paula Jones, Lewinsky, it's just a really unattractive group. I'm not just talking about physical."

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...linton-is-a-victim-of-unattractive-women.html

During an August 1998 appearance on Fox News, the real estate mogul was asked about then-President Clinton’s multiple alleged extramarital affairs and sexual harassment cases. Trump proceeded to rail against the Clinton accusers.

“The whole thing, it’s just so unattractive,” the orange-hued demagogue told host Neil Cavuto, according to transcripts. “Linda Tripp may be one of the most unattractive human beings I’ve ever seen—not women, human beings. She’s just an unattractive person. This [Lucianne] Goldberg person, her agent or whatever she is, is just a terrible woman. You look at Paula Jones, I mean the whole cast of characters.”

He added: “It’s like it’s from Hell. It’s a terrible group of people.

Seconds later, Trump felt the need to reiterate his obsession with their appearance. “The whole group, it’s truly an unattractive cast of characters—Linda Tripp, Lucianne Goldberg—I mean, this woman—I watch her on television, just vomiting. She is so bad. The whole group—Paula Jones, Lewinsky—it’s just a really unattractive group.

“And I’m not just talking about physical, but I am also talking about physical.

Trump noted, however, that if the accusers were supermodels they “would be more pleasant to watch.”

It's a loser for Trump. But he lost already, so it doesn't matter, aside from destroying his friendship with Bill Clinton.
