Ugh that Chicago private equity firm ruined the patty melt at Whataburger. Rest of the menu tastes the same IMO, but they got rid of the buttery crisp thick Texas toast and replaced it with sad skinny floppy soggy toast, completely ruined the burger. Now tastes like it's made with the generic HEB thin white bread or something.
Yes, I was thinking of Whataburger when I posted. It's not the same.

Savor the memories. They just got bought up by private equity firm Blackstone.

A Giant costs $19 locally. That's two lunches worth, but I still can't justify it.
Blackstone can't really raise prices, so I guess the plan must be to cut costs...

Tbh it's only the Texas toast I really notice a difference in when it comes to the food. The drive thru has become horrendous since the Chicago buyout though to the point I only eat inside when I get Whataburger now because I don't want to spend 30 minutes in the drive thru.

Honestly, I don't get their burgers very often so maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about lol. I usually get breakfast there. It's better than most fast food places, and didn't seem to change with the new ownership. This morning I tried this special limited sandwich. Very good!

I like to get that sausage, cheese, and ranchero egg but on a cheddar jalapeno biscuit instead of the bun. Was nice when they gave one away free last week lol.

I think that jalapeno cheddar biscuit sandwich was another limited thing, that was awesome. I didn't see it on the menu.

I got one last week and every time I get a honey butter chicken biscuit I sub in the jalapeno cheddar biscuit for free. Been getting those all year since the HEB I go to on its receipts has a coupon for a free honey butter chicken biscuit with purchase of a 16oz Coke.

Had lunch at a hole in the wall spot called Birrieria Little Tijuana, they won an award for being a top 5 Mexican shop in So Cal. Good doesn't even begin to describe it. What I had wasn't Mexican outside of the Birria, it was basically a grilled cheese with Mozzarella and Birria and a side of fries. I had woofed it down before I remembered I didn't take a pic. But I found one. The bread was super crunchy and toasted perfectly. I got a side of consume and dipped the sandwich and fries in it. The fries weren't anything too special, but were pretty good and dipped in the consume they were delicious. The Birria tastes so good and he cooks it for like 12 hours so it was so tender you could almost eat it without chewing.

This is one of the best Mexican/American fusion dishes I've ever had. They also have incredible Birria Ramen. To win top 5 in So Cal when there are like 5 thousand Mexican spots is impressive. I dunno if I'd say top 5 but if not, it's definitely elite. I could eat here every day. All they have is Birria but you can get it in everything from tacos to burritos to Birria fries to a Birria pizza.

LOL I literally do that for every trip to McDonalds. B1G1 with survey receipt on $3.20 double cheeseburgers plus small soda for $1 and then use the free medium fries with purchase deal from the app. Comes out to like $4.54. Or if I'm really hungry use B1G1 for $4.69 on quarter pounders with cheese plus $1 soda plus free fries from the app deal. Big Mac is kind of a waste IMO paying for that much bread and a gross sauce I used to always leave off anyways when I ordered it.
I just started using the survey coupon recently; good deal!

Do you actually get any use from your points? I suppose instead of using one of the other promo deals, I could just burn 3000 points on medium fries once in a while. As you know, points don't stack with deals and I hate having to sit there for 15 mins for the clock to reset.

I save them until I have 3000 and then get two hot and spicy McChickens for 1500 points each. There is no 15 minute timer for using your points like there is for app deals but you can only do one transaction at a time with your points so it's really slow to use them at the register or in the drive thru. So when I'm going to use them I'll place two separate online orders for hot and spicy McChicken for 1500 points each then go buy a small soda inside and use the app deal for free medium fries with $1 or more purchase.

Also check your app deals. They're running a $1 ten piece McNuggets once a week until December 2nd to get good press after the Quarter Pounder E.Coli news cycle.

Got 2 slices and a 20oz Coke product from 7-11 for $5. The slices are now bigger, it's far from amazing, but for convenience store pizza it's not bad. The slices are noticeably bigger than they used to be, and the 20oz Cokes are up to like $3 and some change on their own, so for $5 it's a good deal.

It's been a couple years since I've had any, but I always liked 7-11 pizza. Tastes like skating rink pizza, with all that entails, but it's nostalgic and enjoyable.

Mine even had a fairly crispy crust, although it wasn't due to it being cooked properly lol. It had been sitting under the heatlamp for awhile and had dried out some. And you nailed it, this is like skating rink or bowling alley pizza. The difference with those is 2 slices and a coke at a skating rink or bowling alley would probably be $15-20.

Not a fan of McNuggets but today was the last day, and needed something convenient for lunch.

Now I have several survey receipts, and not enough desire to use them all. 🤣

Pro tip: The best McNugget sauce is the hot picante sauce made for the breakfast burritos. Don't make the mistake of getting the mild sauce. It isn't the same thing with less heat(LoL). It tastes like shit, and nothing would be better if that's all they have.

Will have to try that next time they have a McNugget deal. I usually get BBQ and honey mustard sauce or BBQ and honey. McDonalds nuggets don't really compare well to Wendy's or Chick Fil A imo but their sauces beat the hell out of Wendys but are nowhere close to CFAs.

I always like using my points on the Hot and Spicy McChicken, those things are like crack and only cost 1500 points (eg every $15 you spend there you get one).

Got the Whataburger Bacon Blaze Jalapeno Double minus the jalapeno ranch (I hate all ranch) and with grilled onions added and that thing is awesome. With the jalapenos and cream cheese in it it's like eating jalapeno poppers. Not worth the $13 menu price with medium fries and medium drink but on reddit got some coupons you can scan into the app and get the combo for $6.05 after tax (burger is free, you pay for the fries and drink). Plus they accidentally gave me a second order of fries free in my order today lol.

Fast food to me - head out to walk the dog, think about dinner, decide I want Vietnamese, place an order online with a great local spot for amazing Pho with the brisket and tendons and a bit of tripe, with extra meatballs and tendons, grab it on the way home from the dog walk. Eat it. Rinse and repeat that with about fifteen different kind of cuisines. Why go to any of these places? Except for a rare outing. Oh, and shake shack.

For anyone with a Whataburger nearby pretty awesome deal in the app today, good through next Tuesday. The Texas Toast is pretty crap nowadays so I sub out the toast for a hamburger bun when I order these and when I get the honey bbq sandwich I usually sub out the honey bbq for honey butter (I like the honey BBQ sauce but the honey butter on the chicken strips is S-Tier IMO). But these deals work out to about $6.05 after tax in my area (San Antonio) which is tough to beat. They're also huge meals, like 1800+ calories, so I usually don't eat much more than maybe a small bowl of cereal the entire rest of the day when I get one of these combos.

Was dying for a spicy chicken sandwich and figured I'd go today since (1) I had a free chicken sandwich in my app from doing a survey and (2) Chick Fil A sent me a coupon for free nuggets good for this week. So on my receipt got a code to do a survey for another free chicken sandwich. Then after I ate picked up an order of waffle fries to go for the wife (they're the only thing she likes from CFA) and got another survey receipt for another free chicken sandwich lol.

Wasn't really fast, as I had to wait like 30 minutes, but it was from a food truck so I'ma still say it was fast food.

Fettucini Alfredo with a spicy Chili De Arbol sauce and grilled chicken. With crushed up Flaming Hot Cheetos on top. This concoction would send Italians into ultra rage mode. But holy fuck it's good. More food trucks should do pasta. It's absolutely genius of them to use hot Cheetos as a topping, a little heat and a nice textural component.

Eating a Chili Cheese Fry Burrito from Weinersnitzel. I haven't had one in like 10 years. I forgot how I use to grub on these. I mean it's simple and nothing special but for $2 it's a winner.
