Never had Jerseys Mikes, but I bet WhichWich is probably better.
It would appear they do not have prosciuttini, so they can therefore go straight to hell.
They also manage to be even more expensive than Jersey Mike's. We do have one, but it's right next to a Five Guys, so I've never tried it.

btw guys, if you like vanilla Tillamook is the fucking shit. The ingredient label reads like Breyers, but it doesn't taste like shit. It actually tastes like real vanilla bean ice cream. For the price this shit is amazing.
I had no idea they made ice cream.

First time for the McD 1/4. I'd go back for it.

**Disclaimer - I was really fucking hungry and may or may not have been prop64 enabled before eating said burger.

1/4 with cheese is the only burger I get at McD. It's great fast food burger.

Yes, anything from Potbelly. Jersey Mike's is just way too expensive for what you get, and many of them these days are really hit or miss. I mean, I've been in to a few of them recently and you could easily confuse them for an Arby's the way they manage those franchises now, and the way their sandwiches look. :D It wasn't always like that, though.

I had Potbelly for the first time at the DC airport. I thought it was great and better than any chain sub I had. I can't believe there's not a single location in GA. I used to eat lot of Jersey Mike's before they got crazy expensive. The value isn't there now.

...and I meant to bump this thread some weeks ago, because I finally tried Pollo Campero. A new one opened up a few blocks from me. The 4 piece chicken with 2 sides is really the best deal, and actually cheaper to buy 2 of those than the 8 pieces + 2 sides combo (You also get 2 more sides...for less!). You can mix the chicken styles.

The roasted isn't terrible, but it isn't special. At least, compared to the local wood or coal-fired peruvian chicken joints that litter the area, it really isn't worth it. The fried chicken is GREAT though. really enjoy it. Not so much the sides...little variety, nothing amazing.

I didn't think you would like Pollo Campero fried chicken since it's fried crisp almost like Korean fried chicken. I miss Pollo Campero chicken. The one near my house closed down and they used to have 10 for $10 legs and thigh special all the time. Now I satisfy my fried chicken cravings with Publix fried chicken or KFC buffet. The KFC buffet by my house is actually good and super value at $8.29 with a drink included. They even have fried okra which I don't think is a normal side at KFC.

I have one really close and have been meaning to try it out. Keep forgetting.

Actually I was thinking about a different chain - while Elevation Burger is good the one I was trying to tout is actually Habit Burger. Best chain burger I've ever had hands-down. Habit is some seriously gourmet shit. I do love the taste of a good burger. Mm-mm-mm. You know what they call a Quarter Pounder with cheese in France?

I never had Potbelly but I know there is one about a mile from where I live. I'll make it a point to go there soon.

I am not sure when Jersey Mike's prices went up as some here seem to imply, there isn't one nearby so I go maybe twice a year. And it's always been awesome. I do see there is a Jersey Mike's now just a few miles away in Manhattan across the river, so I may give them a go soon. It's a quick train ride and a decent walk. Of any chain sandwich place I've been, Jersey Mike's has been the best. I'll pay a dollar more for quality any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

As far as burger chains go, Shake Shack has them beat by a mile and then some. A double shackburger is a thing of beauty.

It's $8.25 or $8.75 for a regular sandwich @ jersey Mike's around here. That's what, a $2 markup above subway?

I've never had Potbelly, but Jersey Mike's is pretty good. I've got an excellent local place near by, so I just go there, but Mike's would be good otherwise. I was unimpressed with Penn Station the one time I tried it, but they were completely slammed, so the quality might have suffered.

I'm going to cut back my fast food consumption since I'm unpacked, but I really do like the Naked Chicken Chalupa as does everyone I know who has tried it.

Compared to the slag that Subway puts out, a Jersey Mike's sub tastes well over twice as good. I'd pay that premium if that's the case.

Regular sandwich is only like 7 inches. I get the giant which is barely over footlong. That's $13 just for the sub. I can get Publix sub for 1/2 the price. I don't eat at other sandwich shops because of Publix deli.

$7.22 after tax for the last regular Super Sub I got there, so a buck more than Subway here (and only because they're doing all footlongs for $6 right now)
WHY DO WE EVEN STILL HAVE SUBWAY HERE

Length isn't the best measure here. I just checked, and for example, the regular tuna at JM is 428g/810 calories. Same thing as a footlong at Subway is 474g/960 calories. The giant tuna at JM is 772g/1515 calories. So the regular is only a little less food than a footlong at Subway (the other sandwiches I checked were generally a similar story).
As far as I can tell, the footlong at Publix is 390g/860 calories.

Listed calories is fake news. It's like expecting the same food you see in the TV commercial as the one you get in the store. What you see and what you get is not the same. I can tell you if you order Italian sub fully dressed at all three places, the listed calories wouldn't be close to the actual calories.

Whenever I have to fly through Chicago (rarer and rarer), I try to make sure it is through Midway and I have a long enough layover so that I can eat at Potbelly. ...and when I lived there, I only ever flew out of Midway. But, they are all over DC, so no longer a problem.

Yeah, I had my doubts about Campero because you had mentioned that it was similar to Korean fried chicken. I never hated that, but from the one Korean place that opened up on my street years ago, shortly before leaving Chicago, this dude that opened it chatted with me for a while about the differences between Korean, Asian, and other styles. The double frying (nothing wrong with that) and that typically, the Korean style is usually much "harder." That chicken he had was like biting into rocks. The taste was great and I certainly don't mind crispy, but damn that was hard. This guy told me that "we like hard fried chicken." ...I guess I always took him at his word.

I don't think Campero is hard like that, but it does have typical flavors: anise, cinnamon, things I am forgetting... I guess the taste is the same, but the fried skin was very light--not super thick but still crispy.

That's why I went with a simple comparison (tuna salad) and included the serving weight... these places do try and turn out a consistent product. Yeah, there's gonna be some variance, but the Publix sub isn't going to vary so much that it's actually the same weight/calories as a Jersey Mike's giant sub. It might turn out to be 360g, it might be 420g, but it's not going to be 700g.

McDonalds Chocolate Shamrock Shake:

Previously a "secret" menu item, this is now officially offered on the menu. I tried it tonight & loved it. They nailed it. It is really quite good...not overly sugary, more like a toned-down Andes chocolate mint candy. Not horrifically minty, almost more like a hint of mint if anything. I'm surprised because McDonald's food has been awful since the removal of transfats; pretty much everything else I have tried there has left me severely disappointed (except for maybe the McGriddle, although I always feel kinda ick after eating that, unfortunately). It was also neat that the chocolate was on the bottom & the green mint part was on the top. No special straw though, oh well. Nutritional info:

https://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en-us/product/chocolate-shamrock-shake-medium.html

mumc6aM.png

Macros in a medium:
  • 610 calories
  • 13g protein (!)
  • 17g fat
  • 78g carbs
I was pleasantly surprised at the macronutrient profile...the protein count was much higher than I expected & the fat quantity was far lower than I would have thought. The one odd thing is the actual ingredients....there is literally no mint in the ingredients. The shamrock "mint" syrup is made up of the following: High Fructose Corn Syrup, Corn Syrup, Water, Sugar, Natural Flavor, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate (Preservative), Yellow 5, Blue 1. Maybe the natural flavor has some mint, but they can make corn syrup taste like anything these days (re: all of the various Starburst & Skittles flavors available nowadays).

I would say 10/10 would absolutely eat again. Yummy.

Went to Shake Shack yesterday for the first time in a few months. Just an update, they are still making the best fast food burger on the planet. Cheers!

Never tried shake shack, but that does look good. Almost as good as InO!

It's better than In n Out. In n Out was my favorite and the first thing I'd do when I got to Cali is have the taxi take me to the first In n Out and then to the hotel. double double animal style.

But shake shack changed everything. It's just on another level.

Oh BTW the Naked Chicken Chalupa is going bye bye very very soon according to a few articles I saw today. Go get 'em while you can!

The SS cheeseburger costs more than an entire InO combo. Just sayin.

Price is definitely a factor. I think a single shackburger is 5 and change and a double shackburger is 8 and change.

But the shackburger patties are bigger. I'd need two double doubles to fill me up, and just one double Shackburger.

I'll still go to In n Out when I go to the west coast, I just think we've found something better over here on the east coast.

I actually like the SS fried chicken sandwich more than their burgers. Definitely way better than CFA imo

I'm typing this reply from the InO drive thru. 2 burgers, fries, drink, shake = $13.50

The chickenshack is pretty damn good stuff also. You have both where you are? You gotta be in a small section of Cali or Nevada to have that

Yeah there's actually an InO down the street from the shake shack. I could do a back-to-back if I wanted too.

But I've only had SS in NY - that JFK location is clutch.
