I wondered what the hell was wrong with that. I have all three words unlocked for MFD and it didn't seem to have any effect at all. Now I know why... all my weapons are enchanted.

Wow! I didn't know this. This has to be a bug, I can't see anyone getting MFD with out already using enchanted weapons. I doubt I've used a non-enchanted weapon since I got the axe of whiterun at level 6 or so.

I mean even if I found a new non-enchanted weapon I would go and enchant it first chance I got. Even if I only get +3 fire damage on my new weapon it got me some skill in enchanting (and recharging it gives me some more) and gives me a little extra damage (which if I'm down to hitting someone with my axe I need every point of damage I can muster!)

EDIT: Not that it matters, my love with shouting at time itself makes time slow about the only shout I use in combat (and I whirlwind sprint everywhere I go!)

what are the random things that you all have done?

my favorite so far has been finding Bard's Leap Summit and shouting Aela (who happens to be my wife too) off of it. it was funny to watch her slowly spin into the pool below. since she got up and started running towards me i thought that i'd follow suit and jump too.

In some ways, I understand that it would be way OP with maxed MfD plus dual-enchanted daggers, but hell--master difficulty is too easy anyway, at times.

MfD is great early on, and can lead to some very quick kills, but at some point it goes unused.

Though, if you give yourself some legendary Daedric daggers or whatever, vanilla, using MfD might just make them better than being enchanted, anyway. :\ Not that I've tested this out.

I also think I'm missing a shout or two--I remember int he pre-release video there was a shout that they were using that allows you to jump off great heights without damage--I really want that shout, but never found it. Not sure if it made it to the final game.

Become Ethereal?

Become Ethereal?

hmm, I never tried that, but it makes sense, lol.

I guess I was only thinking back to his description during that video, that the shout makes you able to leap off of anything. Guess I've been too slow on the uptake and that it shouldn't be one that simply lets you fall from great heights.

sigh....

I wonder if the "Windrun" shout would totally kill any falling damage if you were to use prior to landing on something. Might be worth a try.

Ditto. They don't stop just because you finish the main quest.

Really? That's quite dumb. Inexcusably dumb, actually. If I fight through the main quest to save Skyrim from the dragons, and they continue to attack, what the heck was the point?

More and more it seems to me that pretty graphics and a lovingly hand-crafted open world are 99% of Skyrim's appeal.

To be honest I am somewhat happy that the dragons will be around after I finish the main quest. This will allow me to finish the main quest and focus on the other quests without worrying about having enough souls to learn new shouts.

You will know once you progress and finish the main story why it was important what you did. Without spoiling too much, Alduin is a bit special (he is the first-born of Akatosh after all).

well, I think it's still quite lame, story-wise, that you end the dragon menace, yet dragons continue to menace people. As far as I can tell,
only the named dragons depart, or go into hiding
, bu that doesn't change the fact that dragons had not existed in Skyrim for centuries, until they were previously defeated, only to be defeated again, the same way...but still remain?

The one thing that really annoys me, though:
Delphine and Esbern demanding that you kill Paarthunax. ...seems like they were programmed to be completely stupid and immune to the lessons and facts of history. Republicans in Skyrim?!? :p
Anyway, there should be an option in conversation to tell them to fuck off or persuade them otherwise--And I noticed someone made a mod for exactly this. :)

I agree that having dragons about after you finish the main quest story line makes no sense but I am glad they are because I like fighting them. The pretty world graphics is a huge part of Skyrim's charm. No denying that. I think the developers are expecting the modding community to make it a better game. They created the basics and then plan to sit back and watch what happens with the creation kit in users hands. On one hand this may sound lazy and foolish but on the other it's also pretty cool idea. Not many games allow for this.

Ever felt a sense of tragedy/empathy for one/some of the Skyrim denizens amongst all this death, burning and dismemberment? This is the lady who was the main alchemist in the final dragon priest stronghold. She refused to poison the children and you normally find her in her chair, killed by an arrow. Well, this time I saturated the room with fireballs and wall of storms when I entered and she ended up on the floor like this. As soon as I approached and saw her, it conjured up the image of a fate worse than death at the hands of the other dragon cultists, not just a quick death from a bow. Felt a real sadness. :(

Then again, I later found a bandit held in a cage by three hagravens. Having dispatched those, I saved before releasing him (in case he'd be some kind of werewolf or other changeling). He immediately attacked me once released. So I reloaded and then went Jon Irenicus on his ass, alternately flaming and healing him in his cage for two hours to boost my destruction and restoration a bit, after which I tired of this charade and wall-of-stormed him & looted his corpse.

Can Clear Skies be learnt by other means than having the monks teach you?

There are times when I just like to go out and hunt the deer, elk, bear, wolves, etc., with a bow. Usually when I need to increase my leather supply. Anyone else like to just play the hunter in this game? Its incredibly easy and fun at times.

Yup, definitely. I made myself some armor "of the hunt" specifically for this purpose, with a whole bunch of enchantments to fortify archery, sneak, muffle and carry weight (because all those animal hides start to weigh a bit). And then it turned out that particular armor was absolutely perfect for stealth missions too. So, hey, two birds. But yeah, just going out and hunting is pretty wicked.

No.
The whole point of Clear Skies is to clear the air to allow you to progress up High Hrothgar to the Throat of the World to meet Paarthurnax. If you could learn it before that you could get up the mountain early and potentially cause some sort of glitch in the quest progression.

So, exploring a portion of the map where I have never been before, I approach a fort named Northwatch Keep and the garrison doesn't shoot at me from the battlements. I think, OK, these guys are friendly. Get close... Uhoh... Elves... Still no sign of hostility. They talk to me outside the gate and don't tell me to go away like the orcs do. I walk inside the compound and ~10 meters in, they jump me. I manage to shout 'become ethereal' & conjure two dremora lords and run to go hide and heal myself (almost died). Then I conjure up more DLs as needed. Looting the corpses, I find one of the dudes wearing thalmor robes. That's when I decide to cleanse this fort and I go through it like the avenging angel. Only folks left alive are three prisoners who won't escape and tell me to get lost basically. No idea why I left those ungrateful sods alive.

I did close their cell gates again though so they can starve to death in that empty keep. :sneaky:

Nice loot though. Tons of glass stuff.

Getting lonely still without a companion at level 45. Tougher too. Met my first ancient dragon this run, in Winterhold College. ah heck landed right beside me and stayed on the ground running after me. Must have taken 16-18 DLs to kill it. He bit and tossed half a dozen of them while I was hiding behind a pillar. Sure appeared tougher than the ancient dragons I've met with my other characters.

Already have. Someone at Ars mentioned the quest and I fulfilled it immediately. Most of the keep rebooted immediately so I got more glass & elven loot form the new guards.
Yeah, I just did that one last night myself. I happened to be wearing a full set of glass armor, and thanks to a bug with the Unhindered perk (worn light armor weighs nothing), I was able to loot 9 complete sets of glass armor (armor, helmet, gauntlets and boots) which didn't add a single pound to my carry weight. Saved me 117 pounds of room, not including the set I was already wearing. I made out like a bandit on that one. Granted, I've already got around 400,000 gold, and even though I spend like a maniac, I find it impossible to blow through money as quickly as I can get it. Hundreds of pounds of ingredients, hundreds of filled soul gems, thousands of pounds of smithing materials, dozens of unsold armors and weapons which I no longer want and dozens more waiting for me to enchant them... It's a little ridiculous at this point. But still fun...

I made a Orc 2h + archer character and he just goes around killing everyone. He has no loyalty to anyone except his own greedy self. LOL Currently running him through the Dark Brotherhood quests. What fun!

So last night my level 13 Warrior type in full Superior Dwarven armor/shield/sword along with Lydia equipped with same(except for helmet) got manhandled on the first word quest from the Greybeards. Am I doing something wrong here? My skills are spread amongst smithing/heavy armor/block/1h and 1 in restoration. Up to this point the only thing that has given me any issues was the Troll on the way to see the Greybeards.

I like to shield bash then slash enemies but sometimes it just pays to front load the damage. Makes me think dropping everything in Stam, using 2handers and light armor would be a better option for melee combat. Add Zerker Orc to that to destroy anything in your path.
