Wait, does anyone in this thread even have one yet minus me?
Because im disquaified from posting here, but i can tell ya, mines been up @ 4.4ghz /w ht on @ 1.31Vcore solid.

And ive had this chip for a while now.

;)

Unfortunatly it's a niche product so there really won't be a lot of people with this chip. I don't see why ES samples aren't allowed though, at least that would get this thread started as a few people actually have them.

With regards to whether or not it's worth the money i'd say it would be to a very marginal amount of people who need 6 very fast cores.

It's really not all that surprising. Look around, we ain't exactly the XS crowd here.

I remember when it was just me and Yoxxy sporting the vapoLS rigs on QX6700's and I was surprised there weren't more "enthusiasts" like us in the forums. It has only gotten less "extreme" and more "budget conscience" since then.

Nothing wrong with that. Just a sign of the times. Our community is more the mainstream enthusiast crowd.

I am saving my $999 for a s2011 build.

Not sure why anyone would even consider the 990x now for the price they are charging. just buy a 980 for 970 for a lot less money if you really need 6 cores now.

ahhhh yoxxy...

lol.. I remember when this guy had more contacts then i did.

I dont think the same can be said now tho...

And i agree with ya, which is why i started getting less active in previewing cpu's.
I show off a cpu, everyone gets mad because no one can touch them without knowing someone for another 5-6 months.
Then im called an "somebitch" until the cpu is released. :(

LOL..

We called you "somebitch" even before you got a few contacts to feed your aigo ;) :p

But seriously, AMD kinda did the same with their TWKR edition cpus. They know what they are doing but it just doesn't appear to appeal to the specific crowd that frequents AT's cpu forum.

Not sure why, guess we all got older and less frivolous with our upgrade dollars.

Aigo, I'm sorry I said "somebitch"... I was posting with a dual 5620 setup... now I'm rocking 5645s. AhhHAH!

I've had mine for nearly a year! :p

Oh you said 990X!

Funny thing is none of the 990s they purchased for testing bested the best Gulftown/Westmere that passed through their hands. They asked if I wanted them anyway but I said not to bother. After all it would be a waste of my time.

Point is with the same stepping there's really no guarantee that a 990 is going to O/C better than a 980. It's all about batch as you know it. ;)

The above specimen is qualified at that speed, passed 300 passes of LinX, cooled by air!

If I could get 7GHz gulftown on 6 cores/12 threads being linpack stable and 24/7 usable then I'd pay $1k for that opportunity.

All we need to do is invent some sort of pouring mechnism/machine/robot that will keep the LN2 flowing 24/7. Then it might be possible for a few days @ 1.888v :).

or a triple stage cascade.

Of course your going to probably need a three phase power connection, which most homes dont have.

Why?

A 5 ton CAC unit is serviced with a 40A disconnect. (240VAC single phase) Most homes have 200 Ampere service.

The cascade system isn't going to be near that level of power.

LOL.. that would be real comedy.

Calling an electrican to install a 240VAC line just for a triple stage cascade unit for your computer.

Just open the panel (hopefully you have a Square D QO panel!), snap in a double pole 20A breaker and you're good to go! :D

Of course the refrigeration unit you speak of to cool down a single socket could easily run on a 20A circuit like the one your washing machine uses. ;)

Some of the units folks are finding on ebay are actually industrial three phase models. They run on either 208 or 480V with very low amps. Three phase motors are slightly more efficient. But as previously mentioned this power is not readily available in a residential environment in turnkey fashion. :)

Well, probably the wrong place to admit it, but I've got a 990X on its way to me.

Yes, it's a work computer, and the PC needs to be as silent and rock-solid stable as possible (last thing I need is a 20 hour video render crapping out at 19 hours), so I probably won't be doing any overclocking.

Now I haven't actually built myself a new PC in like 4.5 years - last one was QX6600-based, still going strong - and considering I usually budget to upgrade every year, cost isn't an issue. Puppy will be loaded.

Still... seems like I should do at least a mild overclock. Suggestions? :)

I still wanna see some Cinebench scores. I wanna see how much more performance you guys are getting out of these chips over the system in my sig.

we have 2 more cores @ near your clock speed.

Hell if i wanted to, i could give my cpu about 1.5vcore and push her into the 5ghz mark long enough for a cinebench.

But i am disqualified from posting my cpu.

The guys who are watching this post no like my girl because she is Extra Special.

You sound like Tweakboy in that response (more cores is the only thing that matters). :)

no sandy had the clock advantage.

But in CB, it uses and optimizes hyper threading as well as threads, so more threads on almost same arch will always win.
