What is the best second option for OC'ing?
Gary was using the 96.94 drivers, which don't require nTune, and I think I read that one of the other review sites was using Power strip and/or ATI Tool (not ATI Tray Tools). Possibly, the order in which you do things has an effect. When I initially got nTune 5.05, I installed it and the CP didn't show anything about gpu overclocking at first. So I uninstalled them, ran coolbits, and re-installed nTune, which let me OC the gpu. However, the detect optimum frequencies option seems to crash.

I just used the official 5.05 release, having the same lock issue on optimal overclock detect settings but my screen seems to be pale blue. ;) I also found some issues with it changing FSB settings on the 680i. I will try a clean image shortly but right now I have a message into NVIDIA about it.
thanks for the response...

You probably have a nicer screen than my Dell 2005FPW, so we'll call it blue from now on :)

Are you able to monitor gpu temps...? From the CP, if I select the option to monitor temps it moves me over to the 'Performance' (nTune) section, and when I click on the GPU portion of that I get the sliders to OC and another slider to adjust fan speed, but no kind of temp gauge or anything like that. I really kind of liked the little graph they had put into the new CP.

I've got mine at 630/2000 with very reasonable temps and not a single artifact.
55 degrees idle and 67 degrees load so far. I do have an additional internal fan near it though.

I'm getting just under 11k 3dMark 06 with a Core Duo 2 @ 3.2ghz.
To be honest, the OC'd to my GTS didnt make a huge difference in 3dMark06, but I'm just about to test them with game benchmarks now.

Apparantly the G80 is in 3D mode all the time. So no 2D reduced clocks(and volts) to save on power/heat.

Hmmm....I wonder why I only get 9500+ for 06. At stock I got about 8700+. And that's with my C2 at 3.4GHz...I was actually expecting something like your score. Hmm...maybe I have to change some IQ setting in the CP.

I'm pretty sure ATiTool is OCing properly...the new clocks show up in nTUNE and Nvidia monitor also.

eVGA 8800GTX results:

Xeon 3060 @ 3.71GHz

8800GTX @ Stock = 11,000 in 06'

8800GTX @ 650/2000 = 12, 019 in 06'

All @ stock IQ settings

It stays pretty cool for those clocks too. Around 50c idle and 67c load @ 650/2000. I'm sure it will handle more than 650/2000 but I'll wait for a water block. I have 2 120mm fans blowing at the card and motherboard(left over from the X1900 CF on water). I mainly had them there for the ramsinks but it seems to even make a difference with the stock cooler on the 8800GTX. I'm using the newest ATITOOL Beta. Bring on the water. :D

I was running in High performance mode :p
That probably explains the difference!

Yes, once you to the Coolbits rededit.
There is an tickbox option in the overclocking section that reads something like "Use these settings only until I restart my computer".

You just un-tick that box and hey presto.

Perhaps, I had Ntune 5.05 installed before I did the Coolbits rededit and the overclocking section just popped up! So yes, just to be safe install Ntune.

Are you talking about the 97.02 drivers? I'm using the 97.02 driver, and I don't have that option. My clocks reset to default after every reboot, and there is no check box like that for me.

Just set up the question: How high does your GTX core clock? And then have the answers be x or y or z. Something like that would work real well.

Just a helpfull suggestion

Any word on this? Does anyone think it would be a good idea?

Couldn't hurt.
