As I was just listening to the 1Up podcast (that garnett guy is such a douche), they were doling out their 2008 predictions, which I thought would be a fun idea for this forum.

So here's how we'll work it. Predictions will be accepted until, oh, let's say the end of January? Once you make a prediction and are satisfied with it, I'll post it here in the OP for posterity's sake, and we'll check this thread again later this year. We can continue to update it once every couple of months just so it's not archived.

Who's in? This can be anything console related. Predictions can be based around sales, release dates, price drops, anything.
 
GTA IV - October 2008
Gears of War 2 - November 2008
Too Human will get at least a 9.0 on IGN
Little Big Planet will get a 10 from 1UP
- The online community / map creation will be disappointing
PS Home - Released April 2008 - Full of complete idiots - Late April 2008
$50 price drop for PS3 end of summer 08
$200 360/Wii end of summer 08

Far-fetched prediction - Mass Effect 2 - November 2008 for 360 - December 2008 - PC/PS3
 
Gears of War 2 - This holiday season.
God of War 3 - this holiday season.
Halo Wars flops.
Bungie Announces anther Halo FPS title that is not part of the original trilogy.
Gran Turismo 5 will NOT be out this year.
Kill Zone 2 will be delayed.
Nintendo introduces another gimmicky controller for the wii (kind of like Wii Fit had it's own controller)
Nintendo introduces another Zelda game for Wii.
MS puts out another SKU for the 360.
PS Home flops.
Street Fighter 4 kicks major ass!
 
Console Related:
- PS3 will finally gain ground due to the fact that HD-DVD is no longer a viable HD video format. It will still be mostly used as a media device instead of a game device.
- Even with the PS3's help, Folding@Home will still not discover anything big
- With the advent of the coming digital broadcast mandate by the government, Americans will be buying new HD TVs this year and look to both the 360 and PS3 to provide content for them. 360 and PS3 will enjoy healthy sales
- Microsoft will continue growing their digitial video distribution
- PS3 will finally update the XMB to somehow work in games, will start charging for a premium online service.
- Sony's Home is deemed "neat, but basically pointless" and effectively fails.
- Wii shortages will subside by Summer

Game Specific:
- Wii Fit, as much as people make fun of it, will be a big success... also, expect Nintendo to offer replacement balance boards that will allow for 350 pounds instead of just 300 like in Japan because Americans are big and fat
- Tons more shovelware and very few good titles for the Wii
- Grand Theft Auto 4 will miss the first quarter and slip till second quarter, framerates will suck but everyone will like it anyway because you can bang hookers. Media attacks Rockstar again.
- Metal Gear Solid 4 will miss the second quarter, probably slip till third or fourth, Hideo Kojima will OD on faux-drugs that he got his faux-rock star persona
- LittleBigPlanet will be released Q4, get large initial sales then fall off the planet due to too many user created monster flying penisis
- Gears of War 2 will be released Q4 2008
- Final Fantasy 13 will be released Q3 2008
- Burnout Paradise, while not a huge hit with longtime fans of the series, will enjoy plenty of success
- Duke Nukem Forever, not released in 2008
- Army of Two, Q2 2008, will be released to generally poor reviews.
 
Do you think they will make little big planet's multiplayer free ??? I would really like to make maps for it. I think you are underestimating the modding communities I think it won't be dissapointing at all but it depends on how many objects they give us and what we can do with them..

I look forward to GTA4 -- which will sell well and I look forward to Spore which will also sell well and Little big planet.
 
What the heck, I'll throw my hat into the ring:

- Metroid Dread will be officailly announced for the DS.
- DNF will ship in 2008 and will be awesome.
- The X360 and PS3 will see price reductions across the board, but the Wii will continue to be $250
- The Witcher gets a console port.
- The DS will continue to top the charts every single month of the year.
- Rock Band will have the most successful (read: Downloaded) DLC content of all time.
- MGS4 will be officailly announced for the X360.
- FFXIII will be officially announced for the X360.
- Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be announced for the Wii.
- Mass Effect 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Bioshock 2 will all be announced.
- A new game in the BioShock universe will be announced (read: Not a action FPS).
- Nintendo will announce a new Zelda for the Wii that is, this time, built from the ground up for the Wii. (I hope hope hope)
- Okami, when officially comes out for the Wii, will only see a minor improvement and that will be widescreen and 480P support. 🙁
- We will see 2 new SKU from both Sony and Microsoft exculding any special edition types (Halo X360)
- Home will get delayed until Winter 2008.
- Little Big Planet will become the surprise killer app for the Ps3 beating out MGS4 due to it's casual and co-op nature.
- Halo 4 will be announced w/o Bungie developing it, and the collective sigh of all the Halo fans causes a catagory 5 hurricane.
- We will see 6 new Guitar Hero games with 2 of them centering around a specific band and another one around the 70s.
- The video game industry will expand by 4 billion dollars.
- The PS3 will finally exceed PS2 sales.
- Wii Fit stays in the top 10 of software sales from its release through 2008.
- The Played Podcast gets on a nice bi-weekly schedule and averages 20-30 minutes an episode.
- GTA4 becomes the first franchise ever to become a system seller for two rival platforms and exceeds 3 millions units sold by the end of the year.
- Hellgate folds and Bill Roper goes back to Blizzard to work on Diablo 3.
- Real evidence that Diablo 3 is being worked on is revealed through a media leak. Blizzard officially announces the game in November.
- HL2: Episode 3 is delayed until Q1 2009.
- Rage launches in Q4 will little commercial success and critical acclaim forcing Id to go back and make Doom 4.
- Home for the PS3 is surprisingly awesome and increased PS3 sales by 20% 3 months after its release.
- Purebeast finally finds a game that has no perceiveable tearing.
- Activision announces a new Tony Hawk game that is completely differant than it's last due to Skate's success and it still sucks.
- Warhawk continues to get ignored by gamers. Despite it's awesomeness (Yes, I recognize that driving a tank sucks--but you get use to it).
- SuperStar Dust HD 2 is announced and is even more amazing that the original.

I expect that they'll solve this issue _before_ they release it, hence the lack of concurrent releases.

Agreed on the slipping, but I think it'll actually see a mid-Q4 release.

Disagree - release will be Q1 of 2009.

Some of my own predictions:

* EndWar will be a stunning success, and finally make consoles the place to put RTS games.

* Nintendo will release Animal Crossing 2 in Q4, and it will be very good.

* The Wii will still not have its supply problems under control until mid-Q3.

* Toshiba, Paramount, and Universal will drag out the format war through 2008.

* Spore will be huge and well-received.

* Counterstrike: Source will be released as DLC on the PS3 and 360.

* Significant Mass Effect DLC will renew interest in the title, ala Oblivion.

* Mass Effect 2 will be announced, and it will still be a 360 exclusive.

* PSN Home will launch in Q2, but users will be underwhelmed.

* Mercenaries 2 will receive rave reviews.

* Faith in the PS3's gaming abilities will be renewed, but shaky ports will continue to haunt it.

* The Windows Media Center Extender (different than the dashboard!) capabilities of the 360 will finally be updated.

* Hail-Mary Prediction: $200 Wii and 360 Arcade by summer 2008.

* Hail-Mary Prediction: The PS3 and/or the 360 supports MKV by the end of 2008.
 
  1. Gears of War 2 in time for chirsitmas
    Halo Wars turns out to be about as good as a RTS can be on a controller.... fans eagerly await the PC port.
    Starcraft 2 is Q4 (sure not console but it's starcraft.... it rocks.
    Seeing a Wii on a store shelf becomes more than an urban myth.
    360's become reliable (this is more of a "hoping for" than a prediction).
    Home is released and quickly forgotten because of way too much bloat.
    God of War 3 moves some PS3's.
    360 gets a 65nm GPU which allows for a $250 core, $300 premium, and $350 elite.
    PS3 drops to $350 for the 40 gig and $450 for the 80 gig.

Thats all I got off the top of my head.
 
Wow, you guys have a lot of predictions. Here are my knee-jerk reactions to the thread topic:

*BioShock will be announced and released on the PS3.

*MS will eventually get off their lazy rear-ends to fix Xbox Live.

*PS Home is released to a collective yawn to everyone other than existing PS3 owners, who will climb mountaintops to scream about how revolutionary their 2nd life clone has made their video game system of choice.

*MGS4 will be delayed into Q4 and a 360 port will be announced for sometime in 2009.

*Microsoft ponies up BIG bucks to keep the entire Mass Effect franchise exclusive (or at least as timed exclusives)

*MS will stop production on the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive.

*Halo Wars actually turns out to be a decent game, but will frustrate the living hell out of the mainstream, doesn't-know-how-to-play-anything-other-than-an-FPS Halo player and therefore will lead to it being thoroughly bashed by people like this guy.

*Xbox 360 Pro (and possibly the cheapest PS3 model) will hit $300 around the same time that the 360 GPU gets the 65nm treatment.

*CKDragon continues to welcome his Nintendo overlords, as 1H titles Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Brother Brawl ensure that Wii shortages will continue until at least June, even if it's not quite to the pre-Christmas degree.

Since I own a PS3 I'll make some predictions for that console

- God Of War is delayed to Q1/2 2009
- FF XIII drops in late Q4
- FF XIII Versus delayed till Q1 2009
- Both FF and MGS franchises stay exclusive to PS
- With half the user base, GTA IV outsells Xbox counterpart
- Sony finally wins a format war, high fives ensue

Super Hail Mary prediction
- With Blu-Ray established as the heir apparent to DVD, Sony signs exclusive partership with Apple to bring Itunes content to the Playstation Network. This establishes the PS3 as the defacto media center of the future (gaming, digital downloading, high definition media, streaming content) all in one package.

Not a chance in hell. The PS3 user base has traditionally shown itself less willing to buy games than 360 owners, and the 360 has the exclusive DLC going for it.

Super Hail Mary prediction

Yeah... not going to happen. Apple has their own STB, and doesn't need to play nice with Sony. I'd believe an AppleTV with BR-D player integrated way before I believed that Apple was going to open their walled garden to Sony, of all people.

I respect the hail mary attempt, but man, I gotta say--absolutely no F'n way is that going to happen.
 
PS3 will get the feature of being able to listen to your own music collection while playing games, but it will only do so in Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3.
