If his intent is what many here suggest, he could've found a better way to express it. I suspect in some ways it may have been political pandering.

I think the part of the cultural mindset that tells us to shut up and work hard contributes to the reticence to speak. Also, there's the fact that speaking up about would just be distasteful, as 'we' would basically shaking a finger at everyone else to be 'more like us'.

I have to admit sometimes I feel that asians benefit somewhat from the more progressive push by other minorities.. but their voices are disproportionately loud, and their demands (that they say they want for them to succeed) are rather ridiculous, especially if you compare asian income brackets vs other minorities.

Well, where I went to school, the local school board considered students either black, white, or hispanic. Asians were considered white. Now, for most schools it didn't make much of a difference as there wasn't a significant number of Asians to really affect the population distributions in any meaningful way. However, my old high school (which opened when I first entered 9th grade) was the exception. It covered Bayou La Batre, a city heavily seafood-industry base which (aside from being referenced in Forrest Gump) had a lot of "boat people" that immigrated to the US after the fall of South Vietnam. Really we were about 1/3 black, 1/3 white, and 1/3 Asian/other. This was a political clusterfvck as the school board used those skewed numbers to try and "equalize" the teacher race distribution. (Mobile county schools were still under the federal desegregation supervision, which should've run out a LONG time ago)

So in conclusion, the system is racist and asians really don't exist! OMG!
