And yet you're willing to live with the much higher body count and say, well, we did what we could. We've had numerous restrictions on guns over the years too. So... guess we're good, right?
When I went to buy my 357 mag, I needed a FOID, background check, and then a short wait for a week or so.
Really not much of a restriction. This is in IL, one of the "stricter" states (and I think the last or 2nd to last state to recognize legal concealed carry .)
In many states, you can go to a gun show and buy a gun and bypass the background check completely.
I think it's a smart idea to have background checks and waiting periods at gun shows just like at the gun store.
Now, when it comes to rifles, I tend to go against the majority of the left, I would love an AK, an M1, and an AR for goin out to the woods or desert and target shooting for fun. Shooting is a great hobby, and it's wonderful fun, I just worry that criminals and insane people have too easy of a time getting their hands on guns, so, maybe there are some additional restrictions that can be put in place to protect the public.
It would maybe also help to register guns, so that it may be easier to trace guns used in crimes.
I think it wouldn't hurt to look at how Canada has their laws set up and to see if there is anything we can learn from them. I don't necessarily agree with their restrictions on magazine size (since any competent shooter can swap mags pretty damn quickly), and I think it's not really necessary to ban certain handguns just because they have a short barrel, but, they have one of the highest gun ownership rates in the world, and they have a pretty low murder rate.
Also, I do agree that having a strong national healthcare system with adequate funds and resources for treating people with mental illnesses would do a LOT to cut violent crime. It's much Cheaper and easier to restrict guns, but, health care is clearly among the "low hanging fruits."
The NRA opposes all bills, they are owned and run by the gun industry. Enthusiast shooters do not even have a say in the NRA's policies! It sucks that the gun club sold everybody out for their big donors, but, they did, and now they are fucked.
