I should restate that any materials related to firearms, including firearms, that meet a threshold considered unsafe for public use, should not be allowed to be purchased by the general public. an obvious example is a RPG...but maybe a not so obvious example is a magazine that holds over a certain amount of rounds.

But what that really constitutes in reality I don't know, I would like to rely on the research and analysis in this arena, unfortunately legislators and their funders are making it difficult for the medical and academic communities to conduct scientific research to determine better ways in making firearms and related materials safe

which was the point of me posting in this thread

ah gotcha. Thanks for the clarification!

Let's just forget about black, or Hispanic, people that may like to have means of defense, women, and heaven forbid, Democrats.

Opposition to the AWB is a matter of being educated on firearms. The gun culture spans more than the white Replubican male, already, and only widens its scope over time.

The NRA is not the gun culture, and is not representative of it. It's a political entity, that can even piss off those white Republican males of yours, by acting like a bunch of idiots.

I didn't comment on any of what you posted. One poster stated it was an assault rifle and another quoted and stated that he didn't know it was a select fire weapon because wikipedia defines assault rifles as select fire. Websters defines an assault rifle as either a select fire or one modeled after it that is usually semiautomatic.

You guys want to try to convince the world that the gun that that guy used wasn't classified as an assault rifle. It's simply a play on semantics.

First of all the term "Assault Rifle" is a term used by the media which is completely broad and vague. The usage of this term usually only describes the cosmetic appearance of a firearm and not how it actually operates and functions because most people in the media (just like you) are either completely clueless about firearms or have other agendas like pumping up their ratings via sensationalist titles and usage of the English language.

In this country firearms are divided into 3 categories fully automatics, burst mode weapons and semi-automatics. The first two are classified as automatic weapons by the ATF regardless if they fire a continuous amount of rounds when you pull and hold the trigger down or if they only fire off 2-3 rounds per trigger pull. The last being semi-automatic is completely legal for anyone to use and the majority of firearms sold in the US to average citizens are semi-automatics which includes the copy of the AR-15 produced by Bushmaster that was used to commit the murders in the CT shooting. Of which this rifle functions no different then how hand guns, shotguns or hunting rifles operate in that they are not fully automatic or burst mode. Again you have no idea of what you are talking about when you say "Assault Rifle" or maybe you have a separate agenda to distort and muddle the waters to push your personal views which are discounted with your lack of actual knowledge on the subject.

Bushmaster Firearms International, LLC, based in Madison, North Carolina, in the United States, is a manufacturer and distributor of guns. Bushmaster's product line revolves around semi-automatic pistol and rifle variants of the AR-15 design.

Actually, the first two are collectively categorized as "select fire", because whether it's full auto, or burst, you can select the fire mode, semi, or auto/burst.

You say fantasy, the majority and momentum of this country is saying reality soon. It's completely disingenuous and myopic to dismiss all this as fantasy and carry out the norm.

You may find mass shootings as the norm, but myself and the majority of the country do not think so. Thankfully that's going to be changing soon.

Big talk.

Are you going to support the ban on sharp sticks also?
