The next iPhone?

My Verizon contract isn't up until July 09. 🙁
I need an iPhone or I might die.

Is there any chance there will be a new version of the iPhone next Christmas season?
If not, I will probably go ahead and get the current 3G version in a few months.

Engadget and Giz had articles that theorized about a "nano" iPhone (because some case manufacturer in Taiwan had some small case). It's the same way the 3G was leaked, but a Nano is highly unlikely.

If it makes you feel any better...my work pays for my 3G and I have 6000min/unlimited data/unlimited text for free.

Does it wear off like the iTouch? It was great....until I started using the "virtual keypad" everyday. Man, that touch screen pisses me off.

I have had a screen protector on since day one so I can't comment on that. I just mean that it's mostly gimicky, especially the games. Its like the Wii, you love it at first and it quickly wears off.

The only thing I still do on it is surf the net (which you can do on any smart phone) use Shazam and Signal, the rest of the Apps I have on it I rarely use anymore. I don't play any of the games, I just use it as an iPod and a normal phone that I browse on occasionally.

yeah i got a touch, i use wifi and the music player, video player on the road for long waits

oh wait... thats using it for an ipod haha

i got a Crackberry its better

Nah... they have nifty new apps coming out every week! Just like a PC, there is always some shiny new toy to play with.

I have a shiny new 3G with unlimited everything for work. And yes, the novelty does wear off.

After having mine for a couple of weeks, I wouldn't shell out and buy my own.

I miss my crackberry. It sucks being a sheep.

where there haven't been any rumors, I'd anticipate a new revision coming out in July for the folks with the contracts for the 1G iPhone ending (like myself) who didn't want to spring for a 3G iPhone. Atleast I hope there is one coming out. Maybe an announcement at Macworld in January, maybe not? I'm in contract until September, so it doesn't really matter to me yet.

There's rumors that the iPhone "dev team" has figured out a way to unlock 3G iPhones:
http://blog.iphone-dev.org/pos...the-season-to-be-jolly
which is good news if you travel overseas a lot and want/have a 3G iPhone and don't mind using a local number while you are travelling.

There's rumors of a iPhone Nano:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/0...ng-up-destined-for-q4/
http://www.engadget.com/2008/1...-silicone-case-mockup/

which would presumably be smaller and cheaper than the current iPhone.

There's rumors that Walmart will sell the iPhone - which seems like a big fuss over much of nothing since it will cost the same that it does in an AT&T store:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/1...or-a-lot-more-than-99/

And then there's a realistic guess that Apple will intro an iPhone 3G 2.0 or something like that around June 2009 with a better camera, more memory (32GB) and maybe something cool like a video cam or something that they can make a big deal about.

While there's still several things that irritate me about my 1st gen iPhone, I still think it's the best gizmo that I've bought in a long time and I use it all the time. It's my stock tracking, weather tracking, camera, Outlook contacts and email sync'd, maps-for-everywhere, keeping children quiet in the car and in the restaurant (Everest is a hit), internet surfing, movie watching on planes, music playing in the car, lots of game playing that happens to be a phone, gizmo.
