It doesn't need an i7 or anything close, that is just what some silly Intel marketing webpage calls "recommended" to hype them.

Yep, release date is this coming Monday. I love the Wolfenstein series. Looks like I'll be hitting the Best Buy next week. Not much advertising or hype about the game. Not sure if thats good or bad. Probably more evolutionary than revolutionary but if its just as good as RTCW then I'll be happy.

Tomorrow is the big day supposedly. $60 for the console version and $50 for the PC version at BB. Glad I dont have a console. Heh heh. Not sure when I'll buy it. I'm working every evening this month. Might wait a bit and see if there are any problems at release. Not that I'm expecting any but you never know these days with all the anti-piracy software they add to these game disks.

If I remember correctly, the Sunday BB ad indicated that the PC version was $49.95 but came with a free $10 B gift card.

My Best Buy had this early so I can give you a mini-review of the first 3 hours or so. If you don't want to know anything about it don't read any further. No spoilers will be revealed just the mechanics of the game.

I would call this a semi-open world game and it has some similarities to FarCry2. You travel on foot going to various quests and I assume sidequests as I am not sure that all missions are required. The quests are independent areas from the city which is where you spend most of the game. I believe there are 2-3 main city areas that you can travel between on foot and several quest/objective areas. There are treasure items scattered about which you need in order to buy upgrades for your weapons and special abilities. Which is like FC2 with the diamonds and upgrades. There are also Intelligence documents scattered about which some have the upgrades for weapons and some provide backdrop for the story. Also there is some respawning of enemies as you go back to the city for upgrades and new missions. So with those FC2 similarities you add the veil powers which are used for some simple puzzles and to defeat the mini-bosses in the game.

The weapons are the best part of the game as some are based on the veil powers and they pack quite a punch. My biggest gripe so far is the game is very easy. I am playing on hard level and I have died 3 times I believe and two of those were because I didn't use the powers like I should have. You don't get hit very often unless you run and gun. The game uses autohealing and I think it would have been better for the traders to sell medkits. It might even be easier than FEAR 2 was before it was patched. There is one difficulty level higher (suicidal I believe) that I will try on my next playthrough. If you use the powers a lot it even gets easier so I only use them when I have to. And there are hundreds of places scattered about to recharge the powers so you can have it on for most of the game if you want.

Graphics-wise it looks like it was a console port to be honest. I imagine the 360 version doesn't look much worse. You can't set AA in the game only AF and a few high/low settings. I have tried to force AA through Nhancer without any luck. No advanced graphical effects are present. No DOF, volumetric smoke/fog, motion blur etc. There is too much HDR though, even more than in Medal of Honor Airborne. The framerate stays locked at 60 on my rig and runs silky smooth. Even when the game autosaves there isn't a hitch. It is the smoothest running game in some time. I would imagine a dual core and a 8800GT would run it very well also. The Havoc physics are quite good though. Not everything is destructible, but it is better than other Havoc games I have played.

It looks like there is about 10-12 hours of gameplay if you do all the missions. After 3 hours it shows that I am a little over 1/4 done. If anyone has questions go ahead and ask.

I haven't tried MP yet. I think I will try it now and will attempt to edit the post later tonight. I forgot to add that the game uses DX9 and not Open GL like Doom 3. I thought they were using Tech 4 for this game?

Edit: MP is actually Open GL which is strange. And it allows setting DOF and AA? SP doesn't allow either. Were they developed by different teams? Only 2 people on right now. lol There should be more than that for just 1 day early I thought.

The game will probably be hard as hell like RTCW was. Remember just before the first boss? Those chicks in tight leather outfits with mp45s would kill you in less than a second, so you had to sneak up on them and throw grenades around corners. Having quick regen against enemies like that doesn't help because it's basically a one hit kill.

Another part of RTCW was those monster things that had no legs. lopers?. Those were also a one hit kill and they were extremely fast monsters. If you didn't have the chaingun out when these things first see you, you're pretty much dead.

I'm confident they'll make the new Wolfenstein just as awesome as RTCW was. That game had a certain element of scariness to it when damn near every enemy could kill you in 1-2 seconds. Always keeping an eye out for those guys with the FG-42 rifles, always sneaking around so the lopers don't see you, throwing grenades into a room before entering just in case there are flame thrower or chaingun soldiers.

It's really good after the first couple of hours. It starts pretty slowly. No enemies are tough though. I am breezing through the special enemies and bosses. It's more like Reinhardt and less like the assassins from RTCW. But even without dying much it will take close to 10 hours to win the game and there are pickups to get that you will miss on your first playthrough.

I'm a little surprised at your RTCW assessment; I found it very easy. I played through the first time on Normal, and then replayed it on the hardest setting, and I didn't have much trouble with either.

I got MOHAA after RTCW, and do to my experience with the latter, I played it on the hardest difficulty, after all they used the same engine, right? Huge mistake... MOHAA was obnoxiously difficult on the hardest level, and it really made the game a chore to play. Overall I liked it, but the way MOHAA rigged levels against the player was BS imo.

I picked up Wolfenstein (Thats its title) today while out running errands. My local BB had it in stock albeit they only had four PC copies left when I was there. I snagged one of those. They had plenty of the 360 versions though. BB also gave me a free $10 gift card which is nice. I couldnt use it on the game though. Anything but the game the girl told me. One thing I noticed right away. No info about system requirements on the DvD container. Nothing about it in the sparse manual either. How is a buyer suppose to find the info? Its in the ReadMe file on the disk. LOL This could be a problem if the parents, grandparents, or friends are picking out a game for someone else.

-=MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS=-

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:
Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP or Windows Vista(R) (Windows 95/98/ME/2000 are unsupported)
Microsoft DirectX(R) 9.0c (included & required for Windows XP & Vista)

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 3.2 GHz or AMD Athlon(TM) 64 3400+ processor
RAM: 1GB RAM
Video Card: 256MB NVIDIA(R) Geforce(R) 6800 GT or ATI Radeon(TM) X800
Sound Card: 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
HDD Space: 8GB (Plus an additional 800MB for Windows swap file)
Media: 100% Microsoft Windows compatible DVD-ROM drive
Internet: Broadband connection and service required for multiplayer

Nothing about Reccomended system requirements. I guess if your rig plays RtCW fine then you should be good to go. I'll give some gameplay thoughts once I have had a chance to install and play it some.
