I too picked it up at BB. Very few PC copies available and I was there at lunch. Only played about 30 minutes and can say that it ran well on my three year old system at 1920X1200. I'm using a 8800gt. The game defaulted to high setting for most things. I played the original Wolfenstein back in the prehistoric days and was hoping it might have something of a similar feel and it does not. Uses the squad thing where they are with you but they do their thing and you do yours. Save system is checkpoints and I've been killed a few times already trying to rush things. So it's a little bit challenging (2 highest difficulty). I don't see how people play this on a console with tiny heads peeping over cover. I suppose the console system is more forgiving. Anyway, good so far but seems very generic.

FG-42 paratroopers. I know this guy is an example of how not to play RTCW (shooting rockets at paratroopers?) but his video shows how quickly you die in this game. His video about the lopers is even funnier. He gets raped because he's using the smg instead of the chaingun. It appears he's playing the game on easy since this is obviously his first play of the game.

The aiming is probably a bit more forgiving on consoles. Having slightly bigger hit boxes around the head make a huge difference.

:^D

Good videos, but that guy didn't know what he was doing. The Lopers were scary for sure. I jumped every time I saw them, but you just have to keep your distance, and you do alright. The same thing applies to the paratroops. You snipe them while they're still on chutes, and then bottleneck them in a doorway when they come to look for you.

The only parts I really had trouble with was the level when you first met the uber soldats. I didn't know how to handle them at first, and died quite a few times. I also used a cheat when fighting Heinrick on the last level. I was trying to stay out of the ring to keep distance, but he would cast spells on you when you did that. I didn't know to stay close, so I used god mode to finish it. I was very sorry I did that after the fact, because it wasn't that difficult if you played it right.

Watching those videos was awesome, it got me in the mood to play it yet again. I had so much fun with that game, between the mood, music, and action it's some of the most fun I've ever had gaming :^)

I'm bored with it already. Can't the gaming industry put nazis to rest already? Yawnfest. Give me something different to shoot at for a change, I'm tired of playing the same damn game over and over and over.

I started up a new game as well. Is it just me or are easy and hard the exact same? Same number of enemies, same ammunition availability, the enemies shoot just as well. I really can't tell the difference.

I checked youtube to see if anyone made a review of this yet and it's starting to look like a blatant copy of Halo and some pieces of Prey. video. The regenerating life thing doesn't worry me but this guy says you need to swap guns like Halo; it's not like RTCW when you carry 10+ weapons at the same time. Another thing is that he was able to throw a grenade without selecting the grenade as a weapon which is just like Halo. The thing about entering the spirit world to pass through barriers is taken from Prey.

And is that bad?

I mean, "taken from", should all games always have completely unique features? We could also mention A Link to the Past or Shadow Man or many other much older games in which the player had to, or could by choice "travel" between two "worlds" to resolve puzzles or pass otherwise impassable obstacles. I'm not saying that the new Wolfenstein in question here is suddenly superb because of that, but I'm referring to the principle of originality and inspirations "taken from" previous ideas in the gaming industry.

Sorry to keep talking about RTCW in a thread about a completely different game, but I can't even get this far at the moment! I'm stuck at the beginning of the Norway mission and I'm getting gang raped by paratrooper rifles.

I figure I probably won't beat this any time soon so I made a video to share my frustration with the rest of the world. Enjoy!

I don't remember that part specifically, but a good strategy in general is to keep your distance when in the open. Snipe them wherever possible, and use your paratrooper gun when they get closer.

I agree with you about the difficulty levels. It's been awhile, but I didn't notice a huge jump going from normal to the hardest setting.

I'm enjoying the game so far. I was disappointed and bored too for the first 2 hours but I stuck with it. When you get the advanced weapons and powers it is a lot more fun. I think it is cool how parts of the map can lose gravity when you shoot the canisters. There aren't enough of them though. There should have been canisters only and no recharge points on the ground. I am 77% finished at almost 9 hours so it is definitely not a short game. I have died about 10 times so it is still easy to me on hard level. Wait until you battle the third big boss. It's pretty awesome. lol

And that RTCW video....LOL. I think I lured them back to the towers and sniped them. It was a year ago when I played it for the first time so I am not too sure.

Man that video takes me back. Hearing the music, the siren, the weapons, the Arrgghh! of death ...

I think I approached that section a little more stealthily. Can't really remember though. Sniping is one of my favorite MO's.

I played it for a few hours yesterday and enjoyed it pretty well. There is a treasure hunt component to it that you don't see in alot of FPSs....you need cash to upgrade and you gotta look for it. Manual is horrible about explaining upgrades, tomes, intelligence (actually it's not discussed at all).

I found it's very helpful to snipe...especially gives you more time to avoid grenades and there are lots thrown at you. In any case, it's better than alot of FPSs where all you are doing is shooting and going on different missions....at least here you got the veil component and weapon and ability upgrades.

I hope nothing needs patching .
They let go the development team the minute it went on the store shelves calling it needed due to budget issues.

I just re-downloaded the original from STEAM as well (I never got all the way to the end the first time through).

It's fun shoot-em-up action. I wish it had "STRIP!" and "DANCE!" commands for the barmaid.
