So it's gonna be a rig killer like Doom 3 was back in the day?

We can't forget how incredibly awesome Doom 3 looked back in the day, and how it murdered every single rig out there for some time.

With quad cores and SLI/Xfire rigs, I can't see that happening anymore though. High end machines nowadays are incredible.

Doubt it, if its a console port.
Unless its a really really horrible port, which has happened b4 of course.

I do remember Doom3's release.
Believe it or not, i think i enjoyed tweaking it to look great and run well more than the actual game...LOL

Uses a heavily modified Doom 3 engine, so I don't think so.

I loved RTCW but I thought it was too short. One of those games I wanted it to keep on going and going and going... I dont find many of them. Hopefully this one will be a worthy sequel.

RTCW is one of my all-time favorites. Its the first SP shooter I played in my second "PC life" (took about 10 years off). Played it on a slimline Dell with a Radeon 7000 vid card. I've reinstalled it onto my C2D/8800GTS 512 box just for sentimental reasons.

I will definitely buy this game. Hope its not an obvious port job, nor a rig killer.

That's exactly my story. My 486 went to work to be a workstation, and I got out of computers until 02 when I bought my daughter a Dell. I got RTCW for myself, and the graphical quality was mindblowing :^D The best gfx I'd seen up to that point were the PlayStation, but that was my stepsons, and I seldom played it.

I replayed RTCW a couple of months ago, and the gfx aren't as good as they were in 02, but it's still good fun, and the sound effects and skyboxes properly set the mood.

I'm super excited about the new version. If I'm really lucky, someone will port the whole RTCW to the new engine. That would be a kickass project, but people aren't so interested in doing SP mods anymore. Pure laziness. Half of the art is developing a story, and AI. The actual map is the easy part :^/

I haven't come across any mods for RTCW that actually make the game look better. Couldn't find anything on moddb either. Any better texture mods out there that someone knows of?

Great news, looking forward to the game too. Haven't bought a FPS for a while now, but I might go for this one, I loved the RTCW on my old Duron/GF2.

Didn't find anything either :(
Would have been awesome to at least have a better texture pack.

And it recommends Windows 95 as well.

Was anybody still using 95 in 2001?

edit - "Recommended CPU is a Core i7 for a 360 port?"

This is what I tried to quote. How do I keep screwing that up?

I'd love a high resolution texture pack for RTCW. That would really freshen up the game.

Also, I found the recommended CPU requirements for RTCW to be hilarious - I do not recall the game being even remotely playable with a Pentium 2.
I played RTCW on a 400mhz P2 and it worked just fine.

I can't imagine it requiring a top notch processor to play. id Software's games have usually been CPU efficient. Quake Wars from late 2007 needed a 2ghz Pentium 4; that was a full year after I purchased a Core 2 Duo which exceeds those requirements by 3-4x. Doom 3 in 2004 needed a 1.5ghz Pentium 4; I think I was using an Athlon 3200+ at the time. RTCW from late 2001 needed a 400mhz Pentium 2 and this was around the time we had the 1.5ghz Pentium 4.

The somewhat golden rule of computer games is to design it for 2-3 years in the past. That puts the requirements around August 2006, the time of the Core 2 Duo E6600. A respectable GPU at that time would be the GeForce 7800.

Yeah, seriously it would be cool to have a high-res texture pack for RTCW. The other day I saw a texture pack for Thief 3 and it did seem to spruce up the textures a few notches.

The demo is a Xbox 360 demo but the PS and PC version all launch the same day so thats cool. I'll be adding this game to my list of must get come August.

Looks pretty cool, but I think I will stick with Quake wars. That and id tech 5, when it comes out.

Quake 4

Quake 4 was awesome. 8500 votes on Gamespot gave it an 8.4 overall

I will stick with Quake wars
This experience reminds me that I should wait until the complaints are posted on metacritic. Quake Wars had a lot of lag problems. Having 200ms ping in Team Fortress 2 is still playable but in Quake Wars it's virtually impossible to hit anything at that point. Doing a simple shoot and cover was basically suicide because it would fire the rpg maybe half a second after I hit the fire button. The 30hz animations were pathetic as well. The game appeared laggy even with 60fps.

hmm...the stage demo posted above seems pretty lackluster. I liked the previous Wolfenstein but this one seems like it might be a loser.

It was delayed 2 weeks to aug. 18. My hopes aren't too high for this one, but I'm really tired of l4d and tf2.

I am not expecting the greatest FPS ever made, but it would be nice if it didnt suck ass. I will get a demo first and then see if I wanna buy it.

I would appreciate it if it could end up being good, but it's a console port, so anything is possible, the interface and/or controls alone could scrap it even if the rest is good, time will tell, I'm not hyped but I'm keeping an eye on it, I'll wait until some general consensus is established about it, perhaps I'll wait one or two months before buying it if I ever do.
