Quality of the graphics look like something from the early 90's. Funny how far people will go to find racism these days. The cover of a student catalog in a random department from a semester at a medium sized college showing a white guy winning a race against another white guy, a girl, and a black guy.

Sure it looks bad, but it seems to be small potatoes compared to the other issues right now.

First guy crossing the line is gay. OP obviously has an issue with gay's.

Go spread your intolerance elsewhere.

It's all about the code-words and secret hidden racism that runs rampant these days. Letting these issues slide is exactly what the racists hope we do.

Probably a no-win situation no matter how the picture was staged. If the woman and the black man had been winning someone would have bitched about political correctness, quotas, and reverse discrimination.

At some point we do need to get over this shit.

I suggest when blacks reach economic parity with whites and black kids grow up with the same advantages that white kids do.

Yup, need four people in body suits these days to not upset anyone.

True, but that's both irrelevant and specious.

Would you trade places with a black kid growing up?

Didn't think so.

I was blessed to grow up in an area with very little poverty. I wouldn't want to trade places with anyone living in poverty regardless of race. I know the bubble I grew up in.

We need to seriously address issues that lead to a lack of opportunity and ever increasing income in-equality in this county not get worked up over a bone headed ad from poe-dunk U. That's a distraction from the larger fight.

The "New" South......LOL!

Hate to burst your bubble, but outside a few major urban centers in the South, very little has changed since any point in time you care to mention. Granted, overt racism isn't as prevalent as it once was, with codified discriminatory laws, but the discrimination still continues, just a tad more covertly. The "N" word is still used to describe blacks by whites, just not as openly.

The South isn't perfect, but I've encountered very few white people (especially the 30 and younger crowd) that would ever use the N word. They do exist certainly, but from my experiences they are few and far between, and shrinking by the day.

Same. Usually its the older crowd doing so, and they are growing fewer and fewer as time goes by. We still have a way to go down here, but I'd say that the stereotypes about Southerners in that area have far outlived their usefulness.

I find it ironic that most that usually perpetuate the stereotype are from other areas of the US with a far more homogeneous population than the typical southern town/city. But then again, all it takes is one ignorant neighbor to open their mouth or do something stupid that 99%+ of us know to be inexcusable or downright ignorant to confirm that stereotype about Southerners. Its maddening to say the least.

That's as bigoted as those you attempt to insult/condemn. You should be ashamed.

It's always entertaining to see the typical southern response to having their blatantly racist culture pointed out: 'How dare you! I know at least 4 southerners who rarely say the N word, you are the real bigot!'

I don't know what magical world you are living in, but in many southern towns the N word is the only word used to refer to black people. The first time I ever heard the N word was out of the mouth of a child, in the south no less (visiting family). You are just so deluded, it's sad because I know it is only because your racist parents and family members set such a horrible example, that even frat members from SAE seem to be just kids having a bit of fun. Those are the youth you claim are so much more tolerant than their parents, LOL

Yes, the magical world that I live in must be.......Alabama. :whiste:

But you heard something while visiting family and saw an news story about a shitty fraternity in the plains states? Clearly, your visit down here has made you an expert on what we Southerners think/feel/say in their everyday lives.

It's always entertaining to see typical bigots who can't judge people as individuals lump and generalize and distort reality and demonize and still feel justified because of who you accuse the others of being.

I've lived coast to coast and I've heard more racist and anti-gay remarks from coworkers and the general public in the four years I spent in San Diego than the decades I've spent here, EXCLUDING the elderly. Get over it. The ROOT of bigotry is failing to judge individuals on their own merits and choosing to condemn collectively for what you perceive them to be. This is bandwagoning that people think is justified simply because they appear to be against something unjustifiable (racism and sexism). Two wrongs don't make a right.

It's exactly what I said: generalizing and stereotyping a large swath of individuals based on his own limited and, very likely, delusional experience.

I have collectively spent about a year in West Virginia, a Union state, and found it much more bigoted and racist than the south as well, but I would not venture to condemn them or the SoCal natives as "racist" or "homophobic" just because I have encountered more in those places. People who see the south as "generally racists" instead of "statistically slightly more racists per capita" are so far out of touch with reality because it fits their fantasy which makes them feel superior. It's the same reason idiot racist white people hate black people: it makes them feel superior even without any redeeming qualities. It needs to be called out.

He even tried to associate that recent SAE incident with the south, as if that had anything to do with the region!

They're only running because the black guy has a gun and the woman is clearly bi-polar.
LMAO +1 Leaders of Sigma Alpha Epsilon maybe?

What? They're embracing the "Hands up. Don't shoot" theme. That's very progressive for the south and I for one applaud them.
LMAO +2

the real winners aren't even shown: Indians and Chinese. they are the most successful graduates.

btw, this have gone to OT
They're already in the showers. White privilege requires putting up a fresh ribbon when the white frat boys finally straggle in. Otherwise sweating out all that beer was for nothing and their childhood participation trophies are meaningless.

Kudos to the OP for inadvertently proving that blacks have advanced sufficiently to have first world problems. How dare they not show blacks winning every race! Those bastards!

And not just in the South either... If you want to be completely honest.

I can walk and chew gum. The ad demonstrates what I have said over and over, that competition is hate. The winners have contempt for the losers and visa versa as seen in this thread. You would have to be profoundly naïve to give that ad a pass, in my opinion, and brain dead to have created it without awareness of the obvious implications.
