I think it looks great...however I'm getting sick of the clear taillamps

It definitely looks better than the MDX and the interior of the MDX looks downmarket in comparison.

And this is not "just a redesign" like what Chevy did with the '03 Silverados. This is an all new model. The old RX300 was based on the Camry platform that was used from '92 - '01. The new RX330 uses the new '02 Camry platform and uses a new 3.3 liter 240HP V6 engine.

still a fugly minivan. or station wagon. for yuppies. who don't want to admit to driving either.

mainly i say not nice looking because of the tails.
other than that, it looks decent.
the ass end is ghey looking.

other than that, nice
and i only say re-design because it's what i can see. exterior-wise.

Not too bad, but those taillights are starting to look really dated, and IMO the MDX is a handsomer, more purposeful design. The Lexus definitely trumps it in its interior design, though.

I doubt it 😉 The RX330 weighs about 750 lbs less than an X5 3.0i. The new RX330 has more horsepower AND torque than the X5 3.0. And you're gonna need that $10 because the X5 also costs about $8k - $10k more than an equivalently equipped RX300 (most likley, pricing for the RX330 will stay close to RX300 levels). Not to mention that the interior of the RX330 blows the X5 3.0i's away, it gets better gas mileage, it has more passenger room, more cargo room, and third row seating. It also looks better IMHO.

Purposeful?? Hehehe. You're really stretchin' there😛 Face it, the MDX is totally outclassed 😉

Actually, the X5 vs. RX330 comparison may be a moot point considering that all the socker moms will flock to the new Volvo SUV like bees to honey!

Volvo doesn't have enough capacity to make a dent in X5 3.0i vs RX330 sales.

NFS4, you said once the MDX looks like a spaceship. Well, if the MDX is a spaceship, the RX330 is a UFO. 😛

I think the MDX is more balanced looking all around. The back of the RX looks horrible. Plus, being an owner of an MDX, I know the MDX is more purposeful. Although you can say the MDX is a glorified minivan, the RX is a glorified station wagon since these vehicles will probably never see an unpaved road. The biggest thing the MDX has in its favor is that it fits 7 comfortably. If the RX fit 7, I would have considered it. There really isn't anything in its class by Lexus. The RX is too small and the GX is too expensive with stuff I don't need. Why would an average person buying a luxury SUV need downhill assist?!? Plus, to get the 3rd row of seats in a GX is a $2K option!

Being a former owner of a Lexus, I do agree the interior is a lacking in the MDX. From the beginning, I could tell it was a poor man's Lexus interior but it isn't bad. But the car has so many things going for it that I personally think it is better than the RX.

Do you use the 3rd row seats in your MDX? I know you said that you had to child seats, but what do you put in the third row? I tried sitting in the 3rd row seat of the MDX and it was uncomfortable for me (I'm 5'10"). Third row seats on vehicles with short wheelbases like the MDX and RX300 are limited to little kiddies IMHO.

As for the styling of the RX330...it's spacey, but more handsome than the MDX (The rice lights have GOT to go though). Hell, I think the Pilot looks better than the MDX.

I have no dog in the fight here - I don't particularly like Lexus or Acura (though I have owned a Toyota, which I loved, and two Hondas and an Acura, with which my experience was more mixed). That said, I think the MDX is by far the more attractive design. IMO the RX is and always has been a blatant soccer-mom vehicle, and is basically an overstyled minivan.

But the RX300 doesn't have a third row even as an option for little kiddies.

Believe it or not, I actually do use it alot. In fact, over New Years I had 8 people in my car. My mother in law lives with me (sucks) so I always have at least 5 people in the car. I live close by to alot of relatives and in-laws so I regularly have to use the third row. Fortunately, they are mostly 5'4" or shorter girls and women so they don't complain much about the space. But even without using the 3rd row, the space you get in the rear is really handy. Since I have two kids, I always have 2 strollers in there. Combine that with a trip to Costco's and a regular SUV wouldn't hack it.

I looked at the RX before I got my GS and liked it but it was really no bigger than the GS. The RX doesn't compare in size to the MDX. I do agree the interior of the RX is sweet but the new design of the RX isn't as nice as the old one.

BTW: Did you read the comparo of luxury SUVs in C&D last month? The MDX lost to GX470 by one point.

I was thinking of the GX470😱 That being said, I still think that the Pilot is a much better alternative to the MDX.

MUCH better. Though it does look like a Sorrento copy.

The Sorento was a copy of the original RX300. So who is copying who? 🙂
