They are appeasing to the idiots that didn't have to keep score in their school games.

The most fussy fans have said they won't watch, if it continues beyond the twelfth doctor.
But if they stopped the show after the twelfth doctor, the die hard fans would still NOT see the doctor (nor anyone else, lol).

I'm sure they can easily fix this problem (if earlier shows have not already fixed it).

The doctor has so many powerful friends, and he can go backwards and forwards in time and space, so I would have thought he can somewhat easily solve the problem.

As long as the show continues to make money, the writers will find a way to keep on regenerating the Doctor ;)

I hope the show goes on. I appreciate that the show isn't about sex or swearing or violence, that it doesn't follow the standard Hollywood formula for ratings. It's something safe enough for kids to watch, but also fun enough for adults to watch, geeky enough for us ATOT'ers to watch, and something that you can usually rope your wife into watching, unlike other, more nerdy sci-fi flicks (imo it's the most chick-flick sci-fi show I can think of, haha). Plus they have fun stories and do crazy stuff that you just can't do in other shows, like riding a dinosaur on a spaceship or trying not to crash a flying Titanic spaceship into the royal palace

For me, it's kind of like a modern-day Twilight Zone (minus the consistently darker themes), where you get a bunch of different stories along the same theme, so there's almost always something interesting to watch. Plus it has good themes - the Doctor tries to solve problems without violence, tries to give people another chance to do better, etc. I think that's the reason why so many people watch(ed) Warehouse 13 too - good themes & fun stories. I was amazed at how many non-geeky people at work watched Warehouse 13, and it was because people like fun stories, you know?

There is a few.

1) It was time lord law that a time lord could only have 12 regenerations, and not a biological thing. Upon the 13th form dying, the time lord council would finish off the time lord.

2) River Song gave up all of her remaining generations to save the doctor after poisoning him in the "Lets kill Hitler" episode, this may have also accidently given him all her remaining regenerations. Which is about 8.

3) Because of the crack in the wall, with Amelia pond. She re-imagined him to life (however the fuck that all went down) and her not sure on the regeneration thing, could have brought him back as is, now with a full regeneration cycle to also have.

4) It was a lie. Doctor's rule #1 "The Doctor lies"

Gets to regen "like a timelord"? No, she IS a time lord. She became one because as she was conceived in and exposed to the time vortex via time travel in the tardis. Along with manipulation of the baby's body by the group known as "the silence", turned her into a time lord.

Timelords were first created after a human-kind like species was exposed for a long time to the time vortex.

in deadly assassin (tom baker era) he was already on his 13th body which was dying and used the eye of harmony to get another lifetimes worth of energy/life.

in keeper of traken he took over the body of another person to extend his life.

in the paul mcgann movie he took over eric roberts body temporarily.

in the david tennant era he got a derek jacobi body from the timelords and regenerated into paul simms.

the general explanation is when you are made in to a timelord you are given only enough regeneration energy for 12 times, or 13 bodies. the master has typically run around searching for more energy and taking other peoples bodies.
