The New Argentinian President Deserves His Own Thread

He's going to get lynched by his voters withing 3 years if he actually enacts what he said to get elected, that's the crazy thing. He'd wipe out 90% of the countries savings and get rid of most public safety nets....

But....he's already walked back dollarizing the economy so maybe his dogs have counselled him to not do all the crazy shit they told him to say....

/yes he actually consults his dogs for advice

So is he doing away with the central bank? I remembered neoliberals musing about replacing the central bank with a computer in an old thread, maybe it was before the '07 crash.

He already walked back adopting USD as currency so I guess central bank is not going anywhere.

Or maybe Pat (SNL)

Adam Carolla looks EXACTLY like the 'It's Pat' character from old SNL ...

Yes he's obviously coocoo for Cocoa Puffs, but their inflation is around 140%. Look how much people in the US were freaking out when it was 8%. Can't blame them for not electing the guy in charge of the economy.

Gonna be fun to see what happens to Argentinian assets when they get converted into US dollars. I predict that instead of stopping inflation, the inflation will just be baked in, promptly wiping out countless. We shall see.
Also will be very interesting to see how drastic austerity to pay off the country's international debts will work when cynically disguised as libertopian nationalism.

Yeah, I don't even understand how those voters process a policy to adopt a different countries' currency and to make your own economy dependent on that of another country...as "nationalism."

IMO it's not much different than American conservatives who demand that Americans incur drastic reductions in the public services that that Americans pay for with their tax dollars just so the govt can better service its debt to foreign nations.

Reading further about this guy, he has both the flamboyant personality and the foul temperament of Trump. I know the people of Argentina elected him out of economic desperation, the idea that something new might be the cure to their ills. But I suspect what they're actually going to get is a repeat of the military dictatorship they had in the 70's, the one that Kissinger and the US government supported. With people being disappeared.

Sadly, economic downturns are the largest reason for the historical success of fascism. In bad times, people always seem to turn to right wing populism and it's list of grievances against all the imagined evil doers.
