We need an alternate timeline in which Zion throws a huge rave, then the machines rampage in and kill them all.

I would almost believe that creative people have a thing for sex change.
One of the original ARM designers also had a sex change.

(yeah, two cases)...

P.S.
I would watch the prequel.
Since high quality special effects are now obvious and common, the story line really must be great. Perhaps they think of a new special effects...

Matrix 1 also has the dubious distinction of the "Jaws effect"--do somethign so well, that everyone else wants to copy you. With Jaws, it was "summer blockbuster"

With Matrix, it was dumb-shit "bullet time" or whatever they called it. Awesome in the Matrix, mind you, but godawful anywhere else.

With exception of the game :"Max Payne" IMHO.

I thought Reloaded was good until I saw Revolutions. I liked how philosophical Reloaded got but then they basically said "never mind" with Revolutions and so it undercut Reloaded's impact. I think if Revolutions had been a good conclusion, people would have thought the entire trilogy was great. Basically, Revolutions was so bad it also ruined Reloaded.

This is my opinion as well. I thought Reloaded was a good bridge movie from 1st to a 3rd. But the third was so flat and the ending anti-climatic that it ruined the second as it was a bridge to a trash heap. The third could have, and should have, delved much deeper into the machine side with the Merovingian and Architect. The Neo/Smith cross overs into their respective worlds was also poorly played IMO.

I can just imagine the board meeting regarding the possibility of a new Matrix movie... "guys, we can't go ahead with this unless we come up with a REALLY GREAT story line!"... deadly silence, followed by everyone looking at each other, then the smirking starts, followed by everyone breaking out in laughter.

The number 1 rule that Hollywood lives by: Never let a crap story line get in the way of making money.

Ugh, prequels are just a lazy way to use the same characters over and over (cough Star Wars). Those of you thinking Animatrix or earlier stuff would be good in a new Matrix movie; well, you are just wrong.

They need to reinvent the series, not re-hash it. I've watched the movies so many times, because they were so powerful when I first saw them. Going over things I already know with the same characters would not be powerful, no matter how much CG they want to throw at it. Now a story about unknown characters, in the universe, with a unique story... that could work.

Did you watch the horrible 4:3 pan and scan they showed on Broadcast TV this weekend?

Cause I did....

I just threw up in my mouth thinking about pan and scan, thanks.

It is absolutely nuts to think if this comes out in 2017 it's nearly 20 years since the original came out. I'm too young to remember seeing an original in theaters as if it was yesterday and then 20 years later see a prequel in theaters. That's messed up.

And now thanks to you, I feel so very old AND have through up taste in my mouth....

As for the prequel, at least they are not rebooting it. The idea of a reboot should be nuked from orbit. PERIOD.

90 percent of the trilogy was about the effects. It's going to be difficult to top the originals since tech hasn't changed that much. Plus, the budget for these things usually are not more and usually less than the originals.

You did realize that most characters had slicked hair or were bald and that they wore tigt fitting clothes that were usually shiny like leather. This was all to overcome CGI weaknesses at the time with simulating hair. And it is a lot easier to fake a rubber body suit than something loose fitting. Neo had gelled hair and a leather jacket. Trinity is a perfect example of anchoring where CGI was back then. She had slicked back hair that was rigid so no CGI had to be done on flowing hair and she often wore a tight fitting bodysuit.

The tech has changed a lot since the original.

Great, I can't wait to realistic CGI clothes. That's just what I go to the cinema for.

WRONG.

100% of the original was about being awesome.

I remember going to see the first one without a clue what it was about. The friends that wanted to go had seen the trailers for it and the way they talked I expected yet another throw away CGI fest. Instead I got a very well thought out and deep action movie with great effects. More movies should be that that one. Then they started navel gazing and ruined the franchise with less interesting tangents that honestly felt like they just wanted to keep the actor who played Smith around. It was a huge shame really. While they weren't the worst movies I've sat through they still don't compare the first.

These new ones could be good, I agree they need to go somewhere else with it. Of course odds are they'll attempt to keep the same ideas and the only people who'll know wtf is going on are the fans that read all the books, and played all the games.

One last thought, in regards to the rave. Every time I see it all I can think of is Kevin Bacon jumping in like in Footloose "I thought this was a party! Let's Dance!!!"

This was the 6th incarnation of the Matrix I believe. Each one eventually failed because of the "anomaly". They could tell about the creation of the first Matrix in prequel 1. Then the other 2 could be about their eventual fall. The thing is, it could be something totally divorced from the karate styled fighting.

Ehhhhhh.

The Matrix is one of my all-time favorite movies.
Reloaded and Revolutions weren't so great, but still entertaining.

I really don't want more [inevitably bad] prequels/sequels/reboots of it :(

Since you are not good at understanding the point of things, I would think that you don't know why you go to the cinema.

I do understand why I go to the cinema, and it isn't for the special effects. The only way that the special effects would interest me would be if I had spent my life under a rock for twenty years at a time then watching the next greatest "special effects movie".
