Gene Roddenberry's initial visions of the Star Trek universe were very noble.
The hack George Lucas, OTOH, stole the majority of the basic idea behind Star Wars from Akira Kurosawa's
The Hidden Fortress. I don't expect the majority of the plebians in this thread to have even heard of that movie however. Of course, that doesn't mean Episodes 4, 5, & 6 weren't fun to watch -- on the contrary, they were most entertaining.
LOTR should not be compared to the others, mainly because it is of a different genre but also because, since only 1 movie is out, it is in its infancy by comparison.
