LOTR is incredible!

great movies, but its the detail that Tolkein went into that gets me.

He invented in his lifetime over 20 languages, many of them can be learned.

His in-depth creation of middle-earth astounds me.

I suppose you're ignoring the fact that there are major star trek conventions where people dress up as klingons and talk to each other in the "klingon language". Why haven't these people already pulled the trigger? What makes them go on? That's just the saddest thing I think I've ever heard.

And dressing up as a friggen wizard or a little Frodo clone and speaking elvish is any better? ;) Whatever:p

Anyway, from the looks of things ST and SW will probably win this one.

This from someone who has nearly 14000 posts on a computer message board? Judge not lest ye be judged.

some of those trekkies need to be in the looney house if ya know what i mean, they are tooooooooo obsessed, i caught a glance at that "trekkie" movie or whatever, omg that had to be one of the SADDEST movies ever.

Edit- the freaking people who were "learning klingon" and had all that make up junk on, god i felt like running thru the door with a light sabre and slicing them all up and then using force push and pushing all their remains into a cement pit.

Babylon 5 is one of the best Sci/fi series out there. Its a lot more action packed and the had a great story line, compared TNG. I guess Enterprise has lots of action now, but the story is not there. I watched all of these Sci/fi series/movies, and I voted for Star Wars.

Yeah I thought babylon 5 had a great storyline as well, and it kept getting better. I enjoyed almost every episode.

<< Star trek is i love you-land (no offense to bundles of twigs) incarnate and I mean that in the cleanest most crystal clear sense I can.

Star wars is about 4 milion times better than star trek and - in fact my god isn't that a dumb name? Star TREK? Come on now - so anyway yes and then LOTR is similar in coolness to Star Wars.
--------
good god, star trek has to be the suckiest thing that sucked the ever suck. so freaking boring and made about -1million sense. LOTR was simply awesome, Star wars is the best sci/fi flick lotr best fantasy flick, star trek best geek fest beam me up scotty crapola shiet.

And there was sadness in the world of Trek. Forgive them father, for they know not what they say.

It's no better but that's the point - although any followers of anything will do silly things I'm sure we've ALL seen the massive number of geek-fest pathetic star trek conventions. Personally I've not seen pics of a single LOTR one. Hell, not even star wars fans are that lame!

And you have 3000. When you have a point to make please make it, because I fail to see the comparison between my post count and the lameness of somebody dressing up in a Klingon costume and talking to other humans who are also dressed up in Klingon costumes in a language that was made up.

They like what they're doing. You apparently like what you're doing here. I like both Trek and this board. I've been to several of these conventions (never dressed up) and lots of these people don't know or care jack about a computer (they get all the info via snail mail, pay at the door, etc). They'd probably consider your life just as pathetic. Is it? Of course not. A life or one's time is only wasted when the owner of saide life/time feels that it's been wasted. Until they feel that way don't put yourself on such a pedastool that you judge the quality of their actions, because believe me there's many that would judge yours (or mine) just as quickly.

Well to everyone their own, it just seems like star trek never is going to an ending, it just runs, save voyager.

OK although I agree with much of what you said lets put it this way:

Person watches star trek 6 hours/day. Person goes to convention dressed up as Klingon. Person talks to other person in Klingon. Person lives and breaths star trek.

Conclusion? That person is trying far too hard to live in this fantasy world, probably because their own life is lacking. Just because you're into star trek doesn't mean your life is lacking but if you're into ANYTHING that much that is based on pure fiction yes I'd say your life needs a bit of work.

And if anybody dresses up as an elf and does the same thing for LOTR I'd say the same thing here!

There are a few people that do that, and I have met a few people a little off at some of the conventions, but not many. Most of the people that dress up as Klingons or anything else are just doing it for the weekend to just throw themselves into the experience. Pretty much like grabbing up the radio scanner, hat, t-shirt, etc. and running to a NASCAR race. I would say that the conditions you listed above would constitute an unhealthy amount of Trek, but lets not start stereotyping here.

Star Trek is for losers who will never get laid by anyone under 250 lbs.
LoTR and Star Wars kinda tie in my book.

Hmm. Don't know. I've never seen LOTR. ST and SW both have their own appeals. Star Wars is more fantasy stuff I think. I grew up on Star Trek: TNG. I seriously learned a lot of good stuff from it too; those shows almost always have great lessons in them too, which a lot of people could benefit from: Like diplomacy before violence.
I just like both. Though Star Wars has gained an edge cause of Natalie Portman being in the new movies. ;):D

LOTR - "Come bilbo, let's go have a magical adventure in the forrest. I'll let you hold my magic wand"

Star Wars - "Help me little furry friends, my daddy is pissed off and he wants to beat me"
