<< OK although I agree with much of what you said lets put it this way:
Person watches star trek 6 hours/day. Person goes to convention dressed up as Klingon. Person talks to other person in Klingon. Person lives and breaths star trek.
Conclusion? That person is trying far too hard to live in this fantasy world, probably because their own life is lacking. Just because you're into star trek doesn't mean your life is lacking but if you're into ANYTHING that much that is based on pure fiction yes I'd say your life needs a bit of work.
And if anybody dresses up as an elf and does the same thing for LOTR I'd say the same thing here! >>
There are a few people that do that, and I have met a few people a little off at some of the conventions, but not many. Most of the people that dress up as Klingons or anything else are just doing it for the weekend to just throw themselves into the experience. Pretty much like grabbing up the radio scanner, hat, t-shirt, etc. and running to a NASCAR race. I would say that the conditions you listed above would constitute an unhealthy amount of Trek, but lets not start stereotyping here.
