Only people of European descent can be racist.

is right ck? or is he wrong?

is right, eye is.

PM CK if you don't believe me and somehow still don't get it.

The idea is that you take the very worst thing that people can call you and use it yourself, appropriate it as your own. It robs it of it's hurtful power.

Then, what do they have? See?

It's all about the power of symbols, and symbolic words.

The N word was a word meant to symbolically degrade and dehumanize blacks as sub-human.

So the act of them using it amongst themselves in a friendly and communal way, "What up, my N?" robs it of it's hateful power, and still drives some secret bigots right here on this forum crazy, after all these years!

I call that a pretty damn successful tactic -- born of degradation and subjugation and desperation -- and yet it has worked like a charm!

Niggga, slick!

I'm guessing that whites don't scream racism about 'white trash' because the emphasis is meant to be on trash part. Trashy people - picture old refrigerators, couches and dead cars in front of the house.

it was some remix of a kanye west song, i thought it was the original, i was burning in a hurry. whoever remixed the likes the n word, a lot.

the basic question i am asking is, why is the word so widely used by those who hate it?

*sigh* I guess this thread is fucked already so might as well answer

Those who hate it use it as a means of diffusing it of its power. By making it one of "their" words, that is a word that they can use but you cant, they attain some level of control over it's perceived meaning. Before when someone used the word it meant one thing and one thing only. Now it depends on who is saying it. If it's a black person saying it it tends to take on a darker version of the word negro. If it's a white person using it it's still just a racial slur. The idea is that racism removed the black mans honour, pride, sense of worth. But reclaiming the word and using it themselves it gives them a way to say "no you can't call us that anymore, only we may use that word now". The original racist connotations to the word never disappear but by using it themselves they can transform the term somewhat. Does it work, well yes and no.

No offense, but this is complete BS IMO. Black people just started using the word because they felt badass saying it (using a powerful derogatory term makes you feel powerful, even if it can apply to yourself) and then this justification was invented long after the fact. It has nothing to do with why black people say it.

<=====not racist
