Background: I have a large number of computers that I manage at work. I used to have them running RC5 unitl the McOwen debacle with DNet. I have tried to get them running SETI, but have not been successful, until......


this morning I got two computers, one on the public side of my network, one on the private side, running the Seti client. My seti queue isn't working yet, but that is secondary, because the clients have received and are processing.

Now, this may not sound like a big deal, but I have about 500 computer just waiting to have Seti loaded. If my experience this morning holds up, I have overcome the obstacles that I had in getting Seti to run. 60GHz of Celeron processing power could be running Seti as early as the middle of next week, and that is just two labs out of 7, that does not even start to take into account all of the staff computers........


Anyway, back to the point of this thread, if I start this now, it will throw the MTR all out of whack, leaving the other teams fighting for 2nd place. Not to mention all the hard work that was put into making the teams even. My original average for the race was 3.5 WU a day, because I did not anticipate getting my work computers running, it was actually dumb luck that it happened.

So what should I do, 1. load 'em up and to he!! with the othe mini-teams because it is for the good of Team Anandtech, 2. put it off until the end of the MTR, or 3. try to work out something else?
 
Don't put anything on the staff computers or at least save them for last!
Less chance of someone trying to play the "make me a sysadmin" game.

The other mini-teams will adjust and fight over the scraps between ourselves.
 
Could always add them under another email address and create your own miniteam and keep the stats separate.

I was wondering who in their right mind would want to me wait to put the client on, but then again, no one has ever accused you of being in your right mind!!!! 😉
So far, it is not looking good for the other mini teams! 😀

Actually, if we go that route, I have added some computers at home and will be adding a few more computers which will or have already increased the numbers that I am putting in right now, so I would still want those at an absolute minimum.

If I had this "dilemma", here's what I would consider doing:

1. Install the client on every single freaking machine.
2. Download many, many WUs in the queue.
3. Store the results for like... 2 weeks.
4. Watch the results dump with a blissful smile at 2:30 a.m.
5. Watch the other 4 teams cry in defeat the next morning and enjoy counting all the :Qs that's next to my daily production number in OD's daily SRL post 😀.
6. Repeat step 2-5.

This is getting more lopsided, I think I may start installing first thing Tuesday.......... at least give it some time before I let the other teams have it....... 😀 (Plus, it is Friday and I might leave early.)

This is what the race is all about. It's a RACE!!! If one team finds some extra 'HorsePower', more power to them (us 🙂

In all probability, other teams will gain...and lose...computers throughout the course of every race.

OMG, that's a lot of power. The MTR is just a fun thing for us, the important thing is that at the end of the day we are ALL on the same team and we need to do anything we can to make our TeAm the best in the world. Man get those bad boys running! Just use caution and make sure you CYA!
 
Hey even though I am from another MTR team, it is for the good of the whole TeAm 😀 If I am able to add that kind of horsepower I will do it so you should too. Go for it. If you want to do some sort of handicap that is up to you. I trust you as a TeAm member if you want to adjust it however you want. If you want them all to count then I have no problem with that either.
 
I would go with good of the overall team but am wondering if this is not gonna piss off some of the racers, and will it affect the future of any other mtr races? If noone cares then there you go. 😕

I appreciate your bringing this to our attention, and it's exciting to hear about that excellent assimilation! 😀

I wouldn't hold off on the assimilation because of the MTR race. Those PCs will put more distance between us and DSLR, and help us outproduce S@NL and France so we can overtake them quicker, which is the bigger race anyway! 😀

Aphoenixrises takes out the cast iron frying pan as she senses smokeball and confusedbmw's frustration over the team arrangements and the odasity of such a suggestion from the consession stand. Instead hands Roudy Ray some laffy taffy so that he can not talk and can not type with his sticky fingers.😉
