Side Note:

It is obvious that the Greek Gods were not that powerful, otherwise they would have been pissed when the Romans renamed them.

"And then the Romans came along with their gods that they had borrowed from the Greeks. They invaded Greece and conquered them and ? and stole all their gods?and renamed them with Roman names. Cause the Roman gods before that were kind of crap, you know ? Jeff, the god of biscuits. And Simon, the god of hairdos. And uh, you know, they had the god of war, the god of thunder, the god of running around and jumping and stuff and uh, ?Oh, let?s get some of those! Thank God they?ve got some gods, cause we have these crap gods, you know?? Eddie Izzard

It's suicide to even bring up religion here. If there are so many Christians in the world, they sure are silent on OT.

Not having seen the movie, I can't comment, but I'd say you're generalizing big time in what people believe...talk to two Christians and you'll most likely get quite different answers.

Anyway, they believed Zeus lived on Olympus, and that he constantly came down in different forms and had sex with women. Hercules, anyone? Find a Christian who believes that Jesus Christ constantly walks among us in different forms seducing women and leaving bastard children.

The Christians keep silent on this board because we recognize the futility of arguing with militant athiests. Most of us just let these self-important turds cheerfully pat each other on the back and congratulate each other in their "superiority" to believers.

Obviously a flamebait thread.

Any religion eventually comes down to faith, not "facts". The bottom line is it's your personal belief, and the belief in stories about what happened in the past that form the basis of that religion.

The Greeks believed in Zeus, Christians believe in Jesus, etc. etc. No one religion is right and others wrong.

To try and argue that your stories, your past heroes (Jesus, Hercules, etc) and invisible figures (God, Zeus) are real and the other's are fake is silly. What makes it right? Your belief in them.

So you have your beliefs, I'll have mine, and we should get along.

And I'm out of this thread.

I'm sure most people didn't notice this, but listen how the Greeks talked about their Gods. If you substitute their God with Jesus, it sounds just like the Christians of today. But the funny part is, Christians will watch that movie and say, "look at those dumb Greeks. I can't believe they thought Zeus was real! I mean a guy that lives in the clouds and looks down on all the people below? Get real! Now Jesus, sure he lives in the clouds too and looks over us, but...well...he's Jesus. Come on, obviously HE'S real...because he's...well....Jesus." The movie of course resembles other religions, but since Christianity is the dominant religion here in the US, I thought Christians might see it more as a reflection of their own religion. I just thought it was funny that a religion 3200 years ago is still going strong. The only differences is, they changed the characters' names. 😉

Great movie by the way!

Even funnier is that you are generalizing about Greek Mythology and Christianity based on an adaptation of the Iliad starring Brad Pitt. I mean, it's a movie starring Brad Pitt! It's got to be 100% accurate and factual to Homer's book and the society then. Heck, I heard they borrowed his musical score!
😛

Kinda sad when people base their ancient history and mythology on this movie now.

Oh yeah who is the dumb@ss? Oh yeah you.

why do we waste time arguing about religion and whether or not it's stupid ? Nobody is ever right and it will never go away.

Is it any different than the futility of arguing with militant christians and their "superiority" to non-believers?

How many militant Christians are on this board? The question asked pertained to this "locale", not the zealots you run into on street corners and such...

Half of them shun electricity as the work of the devil. 🙂
Why would anyone want to argue with a bigot?
Precisely why I avoid arguments with Christians.
3 rights might make a left, but 2 wrongs never make a right.

Anyway, most Christians are not bigots, even though your steretype might require that belief. The core of their religious beliefs should forbid them from being so.

Hey that's his opinion, take it for what it's worth. Obviously it wasn't meant to change the minds of Christians.

If you study roman and greek mythology a bit more, there are more resembalances including the story about Noah's arc.

Whenever I'm at a crossroads in life, I ask myself...WWZD?

But then when I run around in a skirt screaming "lightning bolt" people look at me funny.

What's even funnier is hearing Brad Pitt critique Homer's work like a Lit Professor in a PHD class.

You can just imagine Homer stroking his chin and telling Brad Pitt, "WoW! I never thought about it that way! Cool!" 😉 ..........For he is Brad Pitts--The One! 😀

Hehe it is fun to point out stuff like that, but truthfully pointless.....what christian is gonna say jeez you are right i've been a jackass for all these years! 😀

😉
