The movie Troy had me laughing!!!

I'm sure most people didn't notice this, but listen how the Greeks talked about their Gods. If you substitute their God with Jesus, it sounds just like the Christians of today. But the funny part is, Christians will watch that movie and say, "look at those dumb Greeks. I can't believe they thought Zeus was real! I mean a guy that lives in the clouds and looks down on all the people below? Get real! Now Jesus, sure he lives in the clouds too and looks over us, but...well...he's Jesus. Come on, obviously HE'S real...because he's...well....Jesus." The movie of course resembles other religions, but since Christianity is the dominant religion here in the US, I thought Christians might see it more as a reflection of their own religion. I just thought it was funny that a religion 3200 years ago is still going strong. The only differences is, they changed the characters' names. 😉

Great movie by the way!

Hehe, funny way to look at it 😛

You screwed yourself on the wording. Probably could have worded it differently and everyone would have agreed with you.

But really, comparing gods is like comparing invisible friends, you can't win.

I'm not sure about your Christian parallels, but this quote by Andre Gide succinctly summarizes this idea:

"Man's responsibility increases as that of the gods decreases."

I was actually just thinking about the same thing. Think about it, a few thousand years later we consider these thoughts about religion and polytheism to be absurdities. Will people a few thousand years from now consider our religions and monotheism to be absurd? Regardless of how religious you are you have to recognize that this is a valid question...put some thought into it.

That's a good quote. Reminds me of Thus Spoke Zarathustra (sp)

I've thought about this before as well. Interesting stuff.

It's suicide to even bring up religion here. If there are so many Christians in the world, they sure are silent on OT.

Not having seen the movie, I can't comment, but I'd say you're generalizing big time in what people believe...talk to two Christians and you'll most likely get quite different answers.

Anyway, they believed Zeus lived on Olympus, and that he constantly came down in different forms and had sex with women. Hercules, anyone? Find a Christian who believes that Jesus Christ constantly walks among us in different forms seducing women and leaving bastard children.
